First published in 1975, Prophets on the Right examines the views of five conservative critics of American foreign policy from the 1930s to the Cold War era. This new edition contains an introduction in which the author explains how his recent political reorientation, from left to right, has affected his interpretation of the views of the "prophets."
Before there was Pat Buchanan there was Robert Taft, Lawrence Dennis, John Flynn, political eccentrics who identified with the Old Right but, perhaps paradoxically, found a following on the anti-Cold War Left. Written when the author was a self-declared libertarian socialist (he has since converted to neo-conservatism), it makes for a fascinating tour of intellectual figures who have been largely forgotten by history, but who retain a committed following.
