The DK books are really the gold standard for informational children's books about trucks. Simple enough main descriptions (which I read to my two-year-old) are enhanced by lots more detailed information for older kids. The photographs are crisp, glossy and gorgeous.
This book published by Puffin Books is also noted to be "A Dorling Kindersley Book" and was first published in Great Britain by DK in 1995.
I don't have any interest in vehicles, but my toddler son loves them, so we have read this book quite a few times. It is presented in a bright and interesting way, with each double spread containing a large photograph of a type of truck or other building machine, with small text bytes and some handdrawn cartoonish pictures with fun facts.
We also own the Fire Engine and Aeroplane book in this Mighty Machines set.
