The elegant and passionate Nina De Bonnard lives life by her own rules, changing beaus as often as she does gowns, in this delightful novel, set in America's Gilded Age, that moves from opulent Fifth Avenue parties to ostentatious summer mansions.
This book had some interesting moments - mostly describing the dresses and clothing of the period, and the 1876 Exhibition in Philadelphia. Also documented was the historical fact and significance of custom of paying calls. But, I found the romance plot tiring and most of the characters shallow. One of the most intriguing characters, Nina's mother, would have been more deserving of being the center of the plot.
