Michael Oldfield first met Mark Knopfler at college in the late sixties when they were both training to be journalists. Oldfield has since worked on local and national newspapers, but has spent most of his career on Melody Maker, becoming editor in 1980.
Very interesting reading for a Straits superfan like me, albeit slightly frustrating as it ends just as aLCHEMY has been recorded and their biggest-selling album isn't even a twinkle in its creator's eye. Surprising that it wasn't updated after the phenomenal success that Brothers In Arms enjoyed, and indeed frustrating that there's no book that talks about Mark Knopfler's post-DS solo work in the same loving detail that's on show here.
