Urban legends about secretive Country Clubs have existed for years. At these clubs, the wealthy and powerful pay for the privilege to brutalize and torture less fortunate people for their own amusement. Several years ago, a blogger and her friends stumbled upon one such club and took it down.
However, there isn't one club but an entire network of them. In Ladies' Night, we see a special club run by women. These powerful ladies use everything at their disposal to enjoy their secret club. Men are not admitted to this club; they are served as entertainment...or dinner.
I really enjoyed the first Country Club book so it is great to see a followup, and with the added twist of "ladies night" this was always going to be a good read. It follows a similar story arc to the first book (I guess you would expect that right?) with the original characters Brett and Laura continuing their fight against the club by infiltrate a new Country Club intended for ladies only, but this time Laura has to deal with the additional conflict - to infiltrate she needs to become a member, and act like a member. Tim seems to have turned up the "extreme" dial a notch higher this time just in case you've started getting desensitised to the gore. Does the dial get any higher than this?
Holy Crapcicles!! A Definite Horror Story. I Love it!
Tim Miller has a knack for blowing my mind whether I read or listen to his stories. His clear and picturesque writing style makes it easy to visualize exactly what the characters are doing or feeling. Keep blowing my mind, Mr. Miller. I am always excited when this author has a new book out.
Mel Heflin did an Awesome job of bringing the characters to life. I would love to be able to narrate a book. Great Job!
If you're looking for a freaken horrific read, this would be one for dang sure. Not for the faint of heart!!
The Country Club: Ladies Night, ugh I've been waiting for it for a while and I wasn't let down one bit. This one was even better than the last book. The situations are more insane... I know, how can that be possible, but it is! The gore is the Tim Miller we love. It had me cringing the first few pages in. And of course, I love when the old trusty cattle prod comes into play. It's like an old friend of me, lol! The ending, oh the ending. I need to know what is going on. I need to!!
Country Club, Ladies Night, in my opinion out did the first Country Club. The details are incredible. If you have a vivid imagination, then this book will send you on a mind trip. If you are into gory horror, and liked messed up stories, then THIS is a book you will enjoy. I didn't want to put the book down, because the excited started right into the story clear to the ending.
(Real) Extreme horror at the expense of characters
Tim Miller has done what few books in the extreme horror genre can do: gross me out. "Ladies' Night" was a great addition to the One Percent series, just as gory and depraved as you can get these days. The thing I like about Miller is his unflinching approach to horror; he doesn't pull away when many authors would. "Ladies' Night" gives us the worst kind of cannibalism, torture, and human suffering--though perhaps at the cost of character development and storytelling. This book isn't as compelling as the first, but it delivers what most extreme horror readers are looking for: gore. Miller knows the audience and appeals to them directly. If you're looking for something nasty and you've run out of Edward Lee, Tim Miller is a good bet.
You know what I think about everytime I read a Miller book? Popcorn horror. You know those wonderfully fun awesome slasher movies that you just can watch over and over again, always a giddy grin on your face, chomping on popcorn and...probably pickles too. Lol Exciting gory rewatchable little bloody gems like, The Texas Chainsaw Massacres, the Halloweens, Friday the 13th's, Nightmares on Elm Streets.... Young people in peril getting bumped off in crazy, creative, and horrific ways. And I've mentioned all franchise movies cause he's FANTASTIC with all his sequels, keeping the awesome and gruesome story going, this one is a sequel to Country Club.
NOTHING and NO ONE is off limits, out of bounds, or safe in a Tim 'The Mad Hatter' Miller book. He pushes them bold boundaries. Yea, pushes them right off a cliff, kicking and screaming. It's quite a cathartic little number.
Sophie and Brett are two characters returning from part one Country Club, in between books they were offing members of the club. Prestigious rich members with many deep hidden pockets and high powered social backing statuses. Well, they finally got caught by the law but not detained for too long. You see, there is another secret society, one also looking to end the clubs, they too have their own high ranking rich and prestigious -yet shhh secret- social backing, and they have 'prison broke' our players out and placed them on the inside as moles, infiltrating the club from the inside out, gearing up for a take down....of sorts.
Under the advisement and guisement of a Mr. White, they play along, getting their hands grody dirty ~ yea...that ain't gonna rinse off...~ waiting for the opportunity to come a knocking, or bludgeoning.
A Mr. Black heads up the fancy kill clubs and visits his establishments often, checking on the Members Elite and the unwilling/unparticipating 'clientele', who are kept in cages till Show-Time. They may be ultra picky and heavily vet those they allow in as valued and trusty members of this VIP specialty Country Club however they are not so picky whatsoever about their...guests, be it young, old, minority, male, female, expecting... It's a Bonafide Benetton Buffet up in here!!
Ya know, and me loves a good buffet, a lot of tasty grub for your bottom buck, even though sooome items are always questionable....is it beef, chicken, pork,....omg WTF is it....EECK!!! Oh you will be mortified at Tim's menu items but heeey...under the preparation of a highly skilled and schooled cuisine master filet top iron chef, eh...I might just be willing to try anything. Uhhh errr no. Just no. Makes that salad bar sound all the more appealing. Bring on the greens, hold the dressing...
So, it's a Mr. White and a Mr. Black...very odd, these guys playing a deviant game of cutthroat backgammon or what??? You'll just have to read to find out, there is more going on than you may think....that's Miller's damn fine technique. Always ALOT of story and development and he knows how to shock and awe and titillate his readers, with well conceived (hehehe get it??) and well told stories, that's for damn sure!
And oh the tortures!! Obvious similarities to the fantastic and fun Hostel movies which the author pokes fun at by having a couple of his characters say 'HEY, it's like Hostel!?' I read a few reviews saying 'rip off', OMG it's not a rip off. Many stories, especially in the horror genre have similar setups of basic plot lines, it's WHERE the writer/creator takes the story and how he evolves his characters that makes it different and Mr. Miller's Hostel similarities end right there at the general synopsis. And it's not like he ignored the parallels, he's very clever....as always. :D
Oh and hey, there is even an old lady character ~ sagging all over the place ~ who likes to partake in a bit of pain affection and maim affliction to satisfy her geriatric sadistic appetite. You also got a lovely loving couple who torture tag team for their thrills, gotta keep that marriage and sex life alive and thriving...and wiggling and begging.
What Miller has done is remind us that ladies can be just as sadistic and deviant and extreme as the men folk. YES we can...errr I mean yes, yes they can, Mr. Miller. Touche...
And that ending!!! In true Tim 'The Mad Hatter' Miller fashion he raises his rebar up a little higher than it already was, left wide open for more. And he got that nickname from me after I read his amazing Twisted Fairy Tales a few months back. He IS The Mad Hatter writer, always deliciously churning out these amazing crazy fun outlandish graphic fun entertaining stories. He's obviously a bit warped in the head which is EXACTLY how I take my extreme authors, multiple hard lumps of a deceivingly sugar like substance. YAY!! It's diet...
He truly is his own badass brand and knows how to entertain his fans with new and original material as well as ongoing stories, we are always left wanting and waiting (NOT FOR TOO LONG THOUGH, THE GUY IS A WRITING POWERHOUSE MACHINE!!!) for more! Can't wait for the next one in this awesome series. Tim Miller is very much considered one of my favorite authors of the harcore variety and I don't see him ever falling down a notch, ooonly climbing higher. The Mad Hatter writer IS high and I adore and revel in his buzz. :D
Tim Miller's books seem to get more and more disturbing and I love it. If you aren't into extreme horror books DO NOT LISTEN and leave a bad review that you couldn't handle this book! This book and his others will make you cringe, disgust you, possibly get turned on, maybe make you throw up a little in your mouth, and still you'll want to hear another! Mel Heflin has a super sexy voice and does a great job with the narration.
Plot went by too fast. Although the idea was different and unique compared to the first book, everything felt a little too rushed. I felt like the characters could have been flushed out more.
Another great read from Tim Miller. What a twist! This book is not for the squeamish, and that's perfect. On to the next book in this brilliant series.
I think this is the most disturbing book I’ve ever read. This book was particularly hard to stomach and yes there’s a joke in there somewhere. Having read a few of Miller’s books I’m starting to get used to his style and content but this one was more intense than the previous books. It focuses around the Country Club which isn’t your average sport and lunch facility. It’s a club for the hard-core lovers of pain and deviant pursuits. The fact that it is exclusively a ladies’ club makes it a little more gruesome. Not give any spoilers away because that wouldn’t do the book justice but if you like to be shocked, go ahead and read. If you find extreme slasher horror funny, settle down with the book but if you really enjoy stepping out of your comfort zone and you have your big boy of big girl panties on check out the audio version, just don’t listen to it around other people. The thing I really enjoy about Miller’s unique style of writing is his ability to make situations that are extremely uncomfortable feel normal. You don’t get a chase and hunt because of the setting and that allows you to focus on the ongoing story through the eyes of characters who are not distorted by fear.
Rich sadistic ladies fulfill their fantasies at the country club. A very gory novel, which acknowledges the contribution of the Hostel movies to the genre, and uses a name out of the old west, Swearingen--I wonder if it was intentional. If Sophie had been the one at the end with Camilla it would have been even more effective. A good ending that I had guessed, but it was not obvious. Will Sophie continue? I hope so.
Tim Miller is one of the best authors I have ever read. I just finished reading The Country Club.Suicid Hotline. and The Country Club Ladies Night. Fantastic dosent even come close to say how these books are!!! And Tim Miller is ausom. Please keep writing these books, and oh yea the sex is great also!!!!
I absolutely loved how this story was about women doing nasty and gruesome. Women can be just as dangerous as men. I wonder where the rest of the story will go. Can't wait!
Could use better editing, but if you liked the first two books, then you'll find more of the same here. Thankfully, some characters return and this bloody show continues. Also, the rich people in this book are over the top terrible. It's scandalous.
I don't think you need to be reading them in order yet, but might as well start doing it here. It seems like that may start to matter. However, the main story is mainly little scenes of death and torture, so it's not like you couldn't figure things out.
