Rate this book
Treasure Harbor: Eight novellas centered around a quest to find treasure hidden by a notorious pirate, Drake Burton, in the seventeen-hundreds. When Nor’easter Igor unearths gold coins on Bounty Beach in Treasure Harbor, treasure seekers from near and far converge on the town in hopes of finding the treasure of a lifetime. Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the seaside town of Treasure Harbor, this eight book series features heroes and heroines who are dealing with the fact that their beloved town has gone treasure crazy.

Lara Callahan is a journalist living in Philadelphia and working for the Philadelphia Times newspaper. When her job sends her back to her hometown of Treasure Harbor, North Carolina in pursuit of a story about centuries old pirate’s treasure, Lara has mixed feelings. Years ago Lara left Treasure Harbor in order to seek a new life away from talk of buried treasure and the hunt for the elusive pirate’s booty. Her childhood was fractured by her parents’ obsession with finding the lost treasure; Lara still feels jaded about the dysfunction she and her sister, Avery, endured as a result.

Now that she’s back in Treasure Harbor, Lara finds herself confronted by the ghosts of the past. Ryan Burton, her childhood best friend and the object of her teen crush, is now a gorgeous, kind man who is determined to find the treasure buried by his ancestor, Drake Burton. Although Lara quickly finds herself falling for Ryan, she isn’t sure that she can bear to watch someone she cares about become so consumed with the treasure.

Ryan Burton can’t believe his eyes when Lara Callahan walks into Pirate Pizza looking all grown up and gorgeous. Years ago they were best friends before the enmity of their families and the centuries old Burton-Callahan feud tore them apart. Now an executive at the Burton import-export family business, Ryan is struggling to make his family proud of his achievements. Now that gold coins have washed up on Bounty Beach, the town is in a frenzy over the elusive treasure. Wanting to spend time with Lara, Ryan suggests they pool their resources since she’s writing a series of articles about the treasure and he’s officially become a treasure seeker. When romantic sparks fly between them, Ryan finds himself imagining a future with the spunky journalist. But when tensions rise over the treasure in the small seaside town, Ryan begins to realize that he and Lara are at odds over his pursuit of the treasure.

Will Lara and Ryan find their way to a happy ending?

Some Kind of Wonderful is by Belle Calhoune. It is included in the Treasure Harbor Complete Series set by Leah Atwood, Belle Calhoune, Patricia Pacjac Carroll, Kristen Ethridge and Angel Moore. This series consists of “eight novellas centered around the quest to find the treasure hidden by Drake Burton, in the seventeen-hundreds.” Legend says that the treasure is somewhere near Treasure Harbor, North Carolina. Thousands of treasure seekers have come to Treasure Harbor looking for the treasure.
Lara Callahan is a Philadelphia journalist whose paper has sent her down here to write a series of articles on the treasure hunt. Lara lived in Treasure Harbor when she was a child so the place and the idea of treasure is nothing new to her. Can she forget the horrors of her childhood to give the town a second chance? Can she trust her own feelings?
Ryan Burton is an ancestor of Drake Burton and has tried to make his family proud of him. Finding the treasure would be the ultimate thing to make them proud. However, treasure hunting is not the end-all and be-all of his life. When he meets Lara again, they were best friends when children, sparks fly. Can he convince her that he can treasure hunt and not go overboard with it? Can he convince her that she is the treasure he is after?
The book is really cute and keeps you reading. It isn’t as obvious a love story as you might think. The characters have some issues to overcome besides the feud between their families.

Any beachside story is a good story as I am a child of the sea. However, this story was a good, quick read as we look from the past to reshape the present and future so past doesn't repeat itself. As Ryan said to Lara - maybe we are the ones to complete the circle. A circle of love that was disrupted centuries before by an accident and feud, only to be healed over time. A great summer read.

Loved, LOVED this book! The quest for treasure is centuries old, and the "lure of buried treasure fooled people into believing it lay within reach." The "Hunt for treasure: At what cost to one's soul?" It's seductive, tempting, and deceptive, as also is vengeance = great themes. I love the look-back into the 1700's, and only wish that Drake & Camilla's relationship and falling in love could be developed further. Some of my favorite quotes:
-" Do you ever truly stop knowing someone once you've known them all the way down to their very soul?"
-And she (Lara) "was afraid to fall for him & then realize he isn't who I thought he was."
-Ryan found that it was "okay just to be me."
-"What is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world, & lose his own soul?"
-And the best one: "For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also."
This was a fun read from the very beginning until the end!

The rest of the writers in this series have a lot to live up to... As usual, Belle Calhoune has written a winner again. I wasn't sure I was going to like this book when I read the intro because I'm not much into historical stuff, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think it will be kind of cool to read about the search for the treasure and it's impact on the involved families. This story reminded us about growing up and forgiveness where are character traits we all need to possess. I hope the rest of the books are as well written as this one.

When Lara comes back home for a work assignment she never expected that her life would change. Lara and Ryan have been friends since elementary school. The way they can sit and talk like they weren't separated for years is amazing. Watching there relationship change is truly remarkable. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. This book deserves a higher rating than a five star review.

This was a very heart warming love story between a Burton and a Callaghan.
I loved the characters, the setting and the storyline.
I loved the verse Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there wil your heart be also.
I look forward to more in the series.

Finished way to soon

Engaging and good storyline. So much more scope to explore before coming to a conclusion. Just have to hope it continues in the same vein in book 2.
