When I started this book, I was excited to find that it took place in Africa. I initially liked the characters, and the independence and heritage of Kayla. I was intrigued about learning what life in Africa might be like, the descriptions of the environment and animals, and the danger elements of civil war. I got the impression that this was well researched and realistic. However, I was disappointed in the main characters and choices they made so early on in the story to be casually intimate. I felt it really detracted from the story.
