The Jesper Jinx series is always guaranteed to make me laugh, no matter what the situation is Jesper always gets up to mischief. Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks brings us more tricks, more mischief, and some pay back.
The Intro Sequence
In which Jesper is thinking about his future girlfriend and gets over anxious, and throws a ball through the ceiling into the attic, leaving a hole in its wake. Melinda gets involved and as payback for threatening to tell thier parents, Jesper plays a genius trick on her.
About Scrumptious Snacks
A brief word from the author, warning us about the amazing treats we are about to read about.
The Missing Cherry Tree
Mum has plans to make her famous cherry pie for author friend visiting, but that morning the tree has vanished, only to reappear later that night. The author friend is asked to interrogate Dad, Melinda and Jesper to find out the truth and each one blames another person.
The Truth (by Snowy the cat)
This story tells us what really happened to the cherry tree, and it's all thanks to Snowy and a little help from friends.
Melinda's Giant Jelly Snake
Melinda has had enough and decides it's time Jesper was on the receiving end of a prank. I loved how she lulls him into a false sense of security, and weaves a fantastic tale to get Jesper's attention.
Jesper jinx and the Ancient Chocolate Bar
An escape from a bully leads Jesper and Oliver into the forbidden second floor of school, where they find an extremely old chocolate bar, which has unfortunate side effects on the bully, This was a funny story and was well and truly deserved payback for the bully.
Final Verdict
Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks was just as funny as the previous books. I love the illustrations and the quick stories. It's perfect for young and reluctant readers, with enough going on to get their attention but short enough to keep them reading.

Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks is the fifth book in the Jesper Jinx series, written and illustrated by Marko Kitti. Eleven year old Jesper Jinx plays a practical joke on his almost-teenage sister, Melinda, after she steals the raisins he’d plucked from the buns he’d been nibbling. While arguing, the two discover that their mother’s cherry tree in the back yard had vanished, literally overnight, and their mother is demanding answers which nobody seems to be able to provide. After Melinda exacts revenge on her mischievous brother, Jesper, he and his best friend, Oliver, are forced to run for their lives from the school bully, Jake. While hiding, they happen upon a rather remarkable find. When their newly discovered treasure is taken by force, however, nobody is able to foresee the unfortunate consequences to come. Puffington Hill is definitely home to some very peculiar characters, including Jesper’s younger cousin, Delbert, whose antics might just rival that of young Jesper himself!
Without a doubt, Jesper Jinx is one of the most fun, delightful and laughable characters I have come across in all of my years of reading. Marko Kitti’s characters are highly imaginative, with personalities so quirky that the reader can not only think of at least one person each reminds them of, but also cannot stop laughing from their hysterial mannerisms. Melinda and Jesper’s pranks and practical jokes played on one another are well crafted, while leaving the reader completely in the dark until the mystery and shock comes to light of what they have done. Jesper Jinx has the knack of finding trouble, even when he is not looking for it, and when it comes looking for him over and over, a reader can soon understand the difference between a trouble-maker and somebody who just seems jinxed! I enjoyed each and every story and sub-plot entwined within Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks, and am very much looking forward to reading more about Jesper’s newly-introduced character, Delbert – international secret agent. I recommend Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks to readers of all ages who are not afraid to let their hair down, get caught up in the wild antics of a fun character, and who are not afraid to laugh obnoxiously loud while reading.

As I have said in previous reviews of the Jesper Jinx series (Jesper Jinx, Jesper Jinx and the Sneezing Season, Jesper Jinx and the Turkish Pepper and Jesper Jinx Goes Fishing), I love Jesper and his antics but Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks has to be my favourite so far (maybe because the school bully gets his comeuppance in a very gross way!).
If case you haven’t had the chance to read any of the Jesper Jinx series yet, Jesper is 11 years old and lives in Puffington Hill on the South Coast of England. He lives with his football loving, travelling soap salesman dad, his stay-at-home mum who cooks, cleans and still finds time to bake homemade cherry pies, Melinda (arch-enemy) is his 12 year old sister and, of course, the family pet, Snowy the cat. His best friend is Oliver “Oliver” Oliverson and the pair of them love Boredom Breakers (aka playing pranks on people, especially Melinda). The biggest problem with Jesper is that if something can go wrong, it will whenever he is involved.
Now as Jesper still hasn’t been told of the existence of these books as the author wasn’t given permission to publish the stories (they were only supposed to be written for Jesper’s eyes only!) the Secrecy Agreement is still in place and MUST be signed before continuing with the book. By signing the agreement, the author gives you permission to read the stories. But remember DON’T TELL JESPER!
In Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks we find stories of Jesper’s adventures involving food. It starts with Jesper convincing Melinda that she in eating bat guano! And when mum’s cherry tree goes missing from the garden she is unable to make her homemade cherry pie, with fresh cherries from her tree, for the Silly Old Scribbler (the author, Marko Kitti) when he comes for tea. Melinda then takes a giant jelly snake sweet to get her revenge on Jesper for his bat guano prank. While being chased by the school bully Jesper finds a chocolate bar, 15 years past its Best Before date and 4 years older than Jesper, and uses it to his advantage to get back at the school bully – this creates the best Boredom Breaker EVER!
We are also introduced to Jesper’s 10 year old cousin, Delbert, who if the rumours are to be believed is an International Secret Agent, albeit a Reluctant Spy.
And to end a fun-filled collection of stories we end with a recipe book of some Scrumptious Snacks; Lemon Flavoured Bat Guano Sultanas, Scribbler’s Breakfast, Mum’s Faux Cherry Pie and Ancient Chocolate Bar.
Overall, this is my favourite of the series so far, purely for the juvenile way that Jesper gets payback on Jake the school bully! This, as with the rest of the series is humorous, well-written and has some great characters. The author manages to involve the reader in the story and believe me, they are fun stories to invest the time in reading.
If you love juvenile humour, pranks, sibling rivalry, adventure and fun then pick up the Jesper Jinx series today!

Synopsis: "Jesper Jinx is eleven, and probably the unluckiest person in all of Puffington Hill. Everything he touches seems to end up in sweet disaster. Hence his nickname 'Jinx'.
In this fifth book of Jesper Jinx's wonderfully wicked adventures chaos unfolds when Jake the school bully meets an ancient chocolate bar. Soon, things get even weirder when Jesper's mum can't bake her cherry pie because her precious cherry tree's gone missing. And then, to top it all off, Snowy the Cat
decides to go on a hunger strike.
Can Jesper save the day with his best Boredom Breaker ever or will a diabolical lunch thief get to him first?"
My Review: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I have been actively following this series since it first started and Marko Kitti contacted me to review and I must say, I think it just keeps getting better! This book also makes me very glad it wasn't available when my brother and I were kids but I am looking forward to when my own son is old enough to enjoy it. Anyway, I love how in this book you get a little glimpse as to how Jesper ended up being such a prankster, because the whole family seems to be too. This book tells a series of events, all centered around food, each is comical in it's own way and is sure to keep the pages turning. It also has a nice little introduction to a new series that just started too.

I'll admit it. I'm a Jesper Jinx fan and have devoured every book in this series. This book, number five, keeps up the wonderful Jesper Jinx pace and left me wondering when book six will appear.
This book is all about snacks. . .or food which might be considered to fall into that category. With Jesper, it's never clear what turns the story will take. But one thing is sure, whenever Jesper is involved, the results will be unexpected, slightly ridiculous and leave a smile on the reader's face.
As always, the reader is drawn into the story through direct statements from the narrator. In this book, there's even a secrecy contract. Kids take a complete and direct dive into Jesper's world, one which is actually fairly normal and every day if it weren't for strange happenings which keep popping up. The entire thing is accompanied (as in the other books) with simple and very fitting illustrations, which draw a smile all on their own.
Packed with all sorts of zaniness, bits of lopsided logic and moments of sheer silliness, this is a book even reluctant readers will enjoy. Especially boys will sympathize with Jesper and the difficulties he faces with his older sister, or the 'mishaps' he runs into which really aren't necessarily his fault. And as a super bonus, there are even a couple snack recipes at the end.
Summed up, this is a book I highly recommend to especially boys ages 8+ who enjoy goofier reads.

his series gets better and better! Jesper, the great prankster and clumsy pone gets pranked twice! One is official, and one is unofficial, since it's not just him who got pranked. The ins and outs are revealed through the not so innocent cat who tells all after the prank happens. I had no clue what was happening, and the cat is sheer genius to come up with that trick.
I felt a bit sorry for Jesper's sister who got the blame, but then when she pranked Jesper I was both proud at her fooling him and frustrated that Jesper got tricked with an idea I'm sure he would have come up wih. But then it's justice from the universe for teasing his sister so much. I feel desperately sorry for their mother who has to put up with both of them, but without them the story wouldn't be fun and b) wouldn't exist.
I loved how smoothly Delbert was mentioned, he fits in as though he'd always been somewhere in Jesper's life. Delbert debuted this year in Delbert the Reluctant Spy.
While I don't approve of how Jesper sorted the bully, Jesper did attempt to say the truth but the bully was too greedy to listen properly, so he suffered greatly in a way that made me feel a bit ill, but not for long. Eagerly awaiting Jesper's next adventure!

The Scribbler is back with yet another book highlighting Jesper's antics. In this deliciously mouth-watering series of stories, Jesper is caught up in some crazy adventures, all related to tasty snacks. This book will leave the reader craving for more, food/adventure is all up to you to decide! The stories are hilarious as usual and Snowy, the cat's perspective on Jesper, his family and everything that happens is indeed one of the many highlights of this book. Wherever Jesper goes, some disaster follows and the same is described to the reader very well. The author brings in a wonderful crossover with Delbert and some truths are revealed which will shock the reader! Also, be sure to find some recipes at the end, try them at your own risk! As the Scribbler says: I hope no-one tells Jesper about what everyone around him is up to. He might not be able to handle the shock!
