Dragon Plagued: Chronicles of Dragon Aerie

Rate this book
48 hour release sale at the end of the book! Dragons have returned to the lowlands of the Dar Desert, and the lands burn before their fury.

Wylan Atwater's home has been destroyed. The life she's known for 18 years is nothing more than a pile of ash and bloodstained sand. There's only one to blame: the blue dragon. If it hadn't come, if it hadn't attacked, maybe she would have been able to get her family to the safety of the imperial city, Darubai. Now there's only one option she can see: to kill the blue dragon, and put her parent's memory to rest.

But strange visions of a woman who can control dragons plagues her mind, and pulls her away from her quest. Who is this lady, and how might she help Wylan destroy the dragon that ruined her life? Dogged by danger and hunted by dragons, Wylan is tested time and again as she rises to meet her quest for revenge. Will she live long enough to kill the dragon? Or will the dangers of the long desert claim her life long before she can reach a resolution with her past?

˃˃˃ How did you get into fantasy?

I didn’t always love reading dragon quest books. My favorite book growing up (and to this day) is A Wrinkle in Time, but I didn’t have a love for reading at all. When I reached the seventh grade we had to read books. She didn’t care what books we read, they could be about fantasy & magic, they could be dragon books, they could even be about heroes embarking on a dragon quest. She didn’t care.

˃˃˃ Who should read this book?

Anyone who likes free dragon books. I know a lot of adults read young adult, and that’s awesome. There’s nothing too graphic in my book, and while there’s a tiny bit of swearing, I’ve read much worse. The real audience I was going for are those women out there who love a good dragon quest and those looking for awesome heroes, monsters, and lots of fantasy & magic. I find I have a lot in common with women my age, and my characters are typically of the female variety and just starting out in life, so that works. Honestly, these books could work for anyone.

˃˃˃ Are there any authors who've shaped your writing?

Oh yea, those fantasy & magic books I mentioned? They were David Eddings, Mercedes Lackey, and an awesome dragon quest series called Dragonlance. I got lost in those pages, reading of wizards, and dragon fire as well as all the magic and monsters! Mercedes Lackey really helped me through my teen years, struggling to accept myself as a young gay man. If it wasn’t for her works, things might have been very different for me. I found her just when I needed to. I also had a friend who loved fantasy so, kind of as homage to my past, here's my take on dragon books!

Travis Simmons was kicked out of magic school because he enjoyed mundane habits like canning and cooking instead of using spells. Forced to travel the world selling his sword and (often defunct) sorcery, he stumbled upon a pack of normal dogs that he mistook for magical animals and imagined he could communicate with them. Still, they enjoyed the pizza he would toss their way, and they adopted him as one of their own. When a roving horde of zombies attacked his new family, Travis used all of his abilities to call upon aid from some witch friends who helped him fight the undead horde. But, always the introvert, the witches realized Travis was rather boring, so after the excitement of battle was over, they went back to their magical ponderings elsewhere. But alas, Travis Simmons was bitten by a zombie, and in order to save himself from turning, he became an apprentice to a necromancer who promised to teach him necromancy and cure his impending undead affliction for a hefty sum. Deciding the life of adventure wasn’t for him, and worried that winter was coming, Travis settled down with his dark master and started writing weird tales of fantasy and science fiction. While his master much preferred Travis spend his time learning the esoteric ways of the occult, Travis dreamed of things like aliens, and life on other planets. His master didn’t like when Travis started pondering steampunk, and instead made his life a horror with magical studies. Now he spends his time chasing his dreams, while trying to save himself from the demon virus in his blood.

Finally!

I was waiting to see how this story would play out. There were a couple of surprising twists and also the journey through the desert was adventurous for our newly created Dragon shifters. I can't wait to see what is in store for our group. I received this story as ARC for my review.

What a wild exciting adventure

Definitely a wild adventure. Sent out to find the rainbow baby Millie and Josef could never have imagined finding Wylan as well. What a jam packed story. I felt like there was never a moment to take a breath, yet there is still so much more to come. Can't wait to start the next in the series.

This is the first book I've read of this series but I found it pretty entertaining. I did have a bit of trouble at times reading it due to the way it is written (seems to change perspectives at random times) but all in all I liked it.
The book is character-driven and I did get really annoyed with the main character quite a few times. Her single mindedness was annoying. I also felt that this book was just a lead into the next book of the series.
The characters were fairly normal though I would have loved a bit more depth to some of them. The main character felt a bit one dimensional I guess. Her stubbornness and single mindedness was fairly bleh. The romance felt like it came out of nowhere. Would have loved to know more about the universe but with the story the way it is it was fine the way it is. The book is written well enough that I feel middle school age group and up would be fine reading it.
Some of the plot felt a bit rushed but that was not necessarily bad. I would have loved a bit more at the end than what was there. The way it is written I could see the world that was created in the book which was very nice. I feel the world was really well developed in that aspect just there are a lot of things I would have loved to understand a bit more. Maybe this is all in book one I do not know.

This is the 2nd book in the series and I found it to be a delightful and entertaining read. The story covers Wylan, a young woman driven by the lust for revenge to kill the blue dragon that killed her parents Kethill and Cuthbert. She meets Joseph and Millie on her way and this is where the story becomes interesting. What you will find in this story is, drama, suspense, action, intrigue, dark humor, wyverns, ghost towns, a baby, a Baba Yagas, dwarves, elves, conversations between Wylan and her inner-wyrm, magic, hyena attack, ghosts, dragon/wyverns battle, killing blue dragon, badly injured, arm ripped off, dragon bone of wand used to repair arm and waking up to a arm that is different. The story-line is well written and the characters are well developed with emotion feelings of revenge, hatred and needs. I would recommend this book as suitable for all age groups.

Very good

I really enjoyed this book. The author continued to build an interesting, unique fantasy world which introduced a lot of questions. The characters were interesting and relatable The ending was not a cliffhanger; it was satisfying yet left a lot of unanswered questions to be addressed in future books.

Not a dragon fan....up until now

I haven't read many dragon stories to the present time. I am glad I read this one. While the end was bit rushed concerning the dragon"queen" the the story was pretty good.

I had read what I thought was a sample but seems to have been #1 in this series. I understand that the author doesn't want to reveal everything leading up to the action immediately. However, I think there was too much left unexplained even by the end of the novel.

Excellent fantasy adventure.

Excellent fantasy advanture, with seeds planted for a possible romance in future volumes. Young adult lead charactor struggles with priorities.
