A fun story about a mole and a crocodile who find a magic hat and wand and end up making lots of bunnies before problem solving to find a solution to get them back in the hat. Mole likes to label everything and this could be linked to stereotyping or labelling other people and whether this is okay and how we can make sure we don’t do this. FS and KS1 children would find this book funny and engaging to read. Could link to counting backwards from 10.
The other reviews imply that labelling things is bad and this book could be used to discuss this with a child. While I accept that labelling people and putting them in boxes is bad I don’t think Mole is doing this. He is trying to understand the world by labelling things. If a picture book has to have a purpose, and can’t just be fun, then I would use it to support a child who feels the need to try and control things. The label on the hat was absolutely correct after all.
The same mole and crocodile as from the other book by this author/illustrator. Though I have to say I liked that one better. It seems that mole still hasn't heard of not putting labels on things. :( But the story was fun, and I liked the ending. Oh crocodile, why would you pick it up after all that happened. :P Fun illustrations.
