1848 - Clubkoorts en revolutie

Rate this book

This book offers aan interesting insight in the growth of democracy in Europe especially in France and Germany (Prussia). The start was in France were due to unrest king Louis Philip flies in february. The people wanted to have influence and talk about things which were important for the country. Theuy organised these discussions in so called clubs. In Germany this was observed and the same organization bottom up took place. Also in other countries like Austria Hungary. In Germany the king Frederic Wilhem iv listened to the people as Franz Joseph did in Austria Hungary. In these countries after a while the excitement was over and things started to be the way they were. In that sense the uprisings in Europe had little effect but it makes sense that it had a big influence on the political awareness of the people thus paving the way for the democracy and the political parties in Europe as we know them these days.
The lesson nowadays can be that it is important to organise by and with the people political discussions, the democracy is owned by all of us. An important argument to join a political party and/or join town hall meetings. You are forced to listen to other opinions and participate in jn the discussions thus generating understanding.
