Being an only parent Taggart Jones gave up his career as a bull rider to be there for his daughter Becky. Now at eight years old Becky is determined that her father needs a lady in his life but she's decided that it needs to be someone she approves of and wants to be with too.
Becky and her best friend come up with a plan to get Taggart to meet Becky's pretty new teacher, Felicity Albright. Becky stops doing her homework, she wears spurs to school and she and her friend follow Felicity around town until the teacher decides a call home to the parents is necessary. Becky is determined to convince Taggart and Felicity that they are meant for each other no matter how much they resist.
The Cowboy and the Kid is the fourth book in the Code of the West/Tanner Brothers series by Anne McAllister. This is the first of the series I've read myself but each book can be read fine as a standalone read as they feature different couples and story lines. A nice little addition to this particular book too with the articles and clippings etc at the beginning of the story.
I have to say my favorite part of this book was Becky, she was simply adorable executing her plans to get her father a new woman in his life. Taggart and Felicity had their story stolen by their little matchmaker but that's quite alright since it makes me want the relationship succeed even more to see a little one happy and getting her way. I did like our adults in the book too but an adorable child in the mix made this one just that little bit better.

This is a delightfully different story with a precocious eight year old, Becky, deciding to act as matchmaker for her father, Taggart Jones, and the lady she thinks would be a great mother for her - her school teacher, Felicity Albright. Taggart was a rodeo star and became a single father after his wife decided it just wasn’t the life she wanted. Taggart was determined he would bring up his daughter and even took her on the tours with him until she was old enough to start school. A serious road accident then made him and his travel partner Noah reevaluate their life choices and they set up in business together, training others in rodeo skills. The accident brought Noah and his love back together and introduced him to his daughter. Now that daughter and Becky are working together to bring Taggart and Felicity together!
This story has so many laugh out loud moments, it is a thoroughly enjoyable story to escape into! As the two girls start to stalk their teacher, plotting how to get her attention and introduce her to Taggart you just have to appreciate their determination and ingenuity. There are plenty of twists and turns in this story - some of them riding a bull! So hang on tight, keep your wits about you and be ready for a real rodeo of a story. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this cowboy/teacher romcom to everyone who enjoys the genre.

An adorable matchmaker kid, her bull rider father and her third grade teacher
Taggart was in the same accident that brought Noah and Tess together (Cowboys Don’t Stay). Fearing his daughter might become an orphan, he gives up the rodeos and opens a bull riding school with Noah in Elmer.
His daughter’s mom and former wife Julie is out of the picture for a long time, having abandoned father and daughter and never come back.
Feeling that her father is lonely, Beck asks the help of her best friend Suzanna in order to bring her father and her teacher together.
The plot is very sweet and Beck is adorable.
Taggart discovers the plot and is beyond embarrassed. Felicity (the teacher), finds it funny and at the same time, not a very bad idea after all.
But Taggart is afraid to let himself care again and Felicity is still grieving her deceased husband.
Another sweet cowboy story in this lovely series.

Bull rider Taggart has been bringing up his daughter since her mother ran out on them. Now 8-year-old Becky has decided she needs a mother and her dad needs a wife. Her new teacher, Felicity, is the woman she has decided fits the bill perfectly - now all she needed to do was bring them together. The story that follows is a bit of a stretch but nevertheless a sweet read. I didn’t really bond with any of the characters. But enjoyed the resolution and the journey to that point.

I like to read good cowboy stories. Most follow the same line. This time Anne took me in a total way that I wouldn't think of. Taggert and his friend Noah retired from rodeos. Now Taggert teaches bull riding and Noah teaches bronc riding. Taggert is divorced and has a 7 year old girl to raise. Becky sees that her Dad is lonely and goes on a mission to get him a wife. Big Spoiler. She brings her friend Susannah to help. They put their sights on their new teacher. Felicity is a widow and when she moves here she decides to stay. Spoiler. The girls get found out and Taggert gets cold feet. He swears to never marry again. Becky sure knows how to put the spring in her Dad again. There are some big spoilers from here on out. There is trouble at school and then Taggert let's her Felicity watch a bull schooling. I would say that anyone interested in bull riding would enjoy this book. I have watched the PBR and this story is spot on. Enjoy this book! I volunteered to read and review this book.

This heartwarming story has a unique touch as part of it is told by Becky Jones's point of view. The kid has a lot to say, she is wild and free, yet respectful and loyal. She knows what she wants and her friend is teaching her how to get it. The shenanigans are on and her father of her teacher have no mercy as they try to find out what it is that they themselves want from each other.
Taggart Jones is not only a world champion bull rider, he is an excellent dad who has a warm, loving relationship with his daughter. They get along and understand each other better than most and the adoration is visible in both of them. When it comes to the women in his life, he avoids them. At any cost. He believes being damaged goods since his divorce and has no desire to walk into that direction again in his life.
Felicity Albright is a young, beautiful teacher, a widow for two years. She is all about the small town living since moving to Montana from LA. She is innovative with her teaching, she is passionate about her profession and reaching the kids and their minds and engaging them in the learning in the best possible way.
As the story progress, the point of view changes between the three. The story is adorable, with Becky doing her best to take care of her dad, and Taggart doing his best to avoid Ms. Albright. But the attraction is there and it is unavoidable, especially with the little help from Becky and the snowstorm. With some old-fashioned tunes at times, the story is good, light reading, it does dwell on the different teaching styles and their benefits, has some hairy bull riding moments, but mostly it is built of the charming romance developing and Becky's hand in the mix. I’d not read any of Anne’s novels and as she’s got so many I was really, really hoping to like this. Nothings like finding a new-to-you author with loads of lovely novels you haven’t read ;-)
Sadly though this was just an OK read for me, a sweet story but one that didn’t really do much for me.
Its a small town romance, and I like those but I do need some drama, some real feelings between the leads.
Though I liked them all, I wasn’t really feeling the attraction between them, and didn’t really understand what they saw in each other. they knew of the other via school of course, but dates? ? Nope, unless you count the one where Taggart is warning her about one of the parents. I just didn’t feel the connection.
I think the biggest problem for me was they were both nice people, sweet, cute and all that, the story was gentle, Becky was a smart but precocious kid, its was all just so Nice. What I want though is drama, jealousies, problems, barriers to things working out, maybe a couple of unpleasant characters for balance and here there wasn’t any.
I see this was originally published in 1996, and maybe its been updated and rereleased, but it doesn’t feel that way, to me it feels very dated, very “clean romance” type read, and that's fine. Millions of readers love them, they just don’t cut it for me.
If you like a sweet, non-dramatic romance, with a gentle HEA then this could be perfect for you. It’s a good book, but not one that moved me emotionally, and really just not my sort of romance.
Stars: Three, depends on what you want from your romance.

Becky was, quite frankly, exhausted taking care of her dad. She needed a mom to ride herd on her dad. She loved him to pieces, but he needed a wife. And Becky had the perfect choice all picked out – her teacher, Felicity. After all anyone who knows that carrots are the most disgusting thing in the world just has to become her mom… really.
Taggart’s done the marriage thing, got the mug, the tee shirt and thankfully the daughter to prove it. The only good thing to come out of that union was the daughter, but man, Becky was one stubborn little girl determined to find him a wife. No thanks, no really, no thanks. But when it comes to the new teacher in town, well, Felicity did grab his attention even if he tried to hide it.
The Cowboy and The Kid is simply one of those charming, feels good, enjoyable romances where you’re pulling for the couple to get together from the start. Becky is adorable… and bull headed stubborn in her determination to bring her father and Felicity together. Two slightly stubborn adults are no match for a determined eight year old matchmaker.
If you’re in the mood for a fun, charming romance without high drama and with believable characters… then this story, and this series is perfect for you. I enjoyed my time in this world and would definitely recommend the series.

I loved the beginning of this book. It hooked me right away. Eight-year-old Becky had been looking after her father all her life and now thinks he needs a wife. So she put together a plan to find him one. The things she does to put him together with the woman she’s chosen are cute. They make perfect sense to an 8-year-old but not appreciated by an adult like her father.
Becky was adorable. And her dad, Taggart, was terrific with her. He had raised her alone after his wife left them when Becky was a few months old. Taggart was happy taking his daughter with him when he went on the road bull riding, but after a serious car accident, it occurred to him that he was Becky’s only parent. He didn’t want to risk leaving her without a parent so he retired from riding bulls; opening a school where he taught the sport. This allowed him more time to be with Becky. He thought their lives were good with just the two of them and didn’t want a wife. But Becky thought her new teacher would be a perfect wife for him and a good mother for her. After all, she didn’t like carrots either. To an 8-year-old, that makes her perfect mother material.
The chemistry between this couple was strong but they tried to fight their desire because he was the father of one of her students and also because he had been hurt in a relationship before. Even though this story was slow moving, it has a good storyline and it was easy to feel the attraction between these two.
I liked this spicy story but thought the ending was a bit quick. Having said that, I recommend this fun, spicy romance.

It is a sure fire for sure. That the minute you tell yourself over and over again, “I’m not going to ever…,” you end up doing just that. Just ask poor old Taggart Jones.
A single, thirty-two-year-old, father of an eight-year old daughter. Who by the way he has been raising her since his ex-left them which Becky was two months old. Then, he started taking her down the road, as they say, with him and his best friend, Noah Tanner. The two guys were a tag team when it came to her. Two years ago, it changed when she started first grade and school full-time. Becky hated it. His parents watched her.
That December two years ago, after Nationals he had won! It had been snowing when a semi clipped them in Noah’s vehicle. The two men ended up in the hospital. He changed. Both men retired and opened Bronc and bull riding school on Taggart’s ranch. Becky after a while saw a longing in her daddy’s eyes. He was missing having someone for himself like Noah had. So, she was going to help him by playing matchmaker. But, who? Everyone had lived there forever.
When on her first day of school she meets a new teacher to the school and also a new resident to Elmer. Was she ever happy. Let the matchmaking begin. Once it does Taggart is the unhappy one in this triangle. Her teacher Felicity Albright is finally getting back into the land of the living after mourning her husband for the last two years. And kind of likes Taggart but he fights her at every turn. So, she just wants to back off but fate has other plans or is that Becky???

Entertaining story with some comedic moments. Eight year old Becky has noticed a change in her ex Bull Rider father, Taggart and decided that what he needs is a wife. However there are very few single women in Elmer, Montana and those that are she wouldn't want as a mother, so she decides to pray and lo and behold, there is a new teacher at school! With the help of her best friend Susannah, Becky puts in play an elaborate plan for her father and new teacher to meet. Felicity lost the love of her life two years ago and has felt encased in ice since the accident that took Dirk from her but her move to Elmer, has made her come alive again. She's not expecting to find love again and so is surprised by her instant attraction to Taggart but whilst she is prepared to risk her heart again, Taggart having failed in his relationship with Becky's mother, feels he is not good enough for Felicity. Can his daughter and Felicity teach him the error of his ways? Believable characters, sweet story about second chance love and a cute daughter.

Taggart's wife left him to raise their daughter alone. He has sworn off of marriage. But, his daughter Becky has other ideas. This is where Felicity, Becky's teacher, comes in. Felicity's husband was killed in an accident. When Felicity's Uncle Fred died he left her his house in Elmer, Montana. Felicity thought this was the perfect place for her to start living life again but not sure if she can love again.
I love cowboy romances and Taggart and Felicity's story was wonderful! This was an enjoyable, sensuous, and fun romance. Taggart is a stubborn cowboy that you can't help but love. Will he allow his stubbornness to lose a chance at love? Felicity is a strong woman and I loved her character. The supporting characters were great too.
This can be read as a standalone but you will want to go back and read the other books in the series. This is one of my favorites. A great book when you need an escape!

So, this was one those ‘just for fun’ reads. I wasn’t sure what to expect when the review invite arrived but the fact it featured a short about Charlie Hunnam had me saying ‘yes, please!’. Seriously, the guy is just yummy and I’ll take him anyway I can get him!
The just of this one is that the stories are told in second person and each one features ‘you’ and a different celebrity. I didn’t read all the stories, Norman Reedus, Matt Damon, and Tom Hardy just don’t thrill my soul. Winter’s Kiss (featuring you and Charlie Hunnam) was cute and fun. Knockout (featuring you and Nick Bateman) was a bit grittier. An Occasional Friday (featuring you and Jamie Dornan) was, sadly a 50 Shades type. Not thrilled about that, I would much more have preferred this one to have been like his character on Once Upon A Time. While they were fun, the ones I read, the ‘you did this’, ‘you walked here’ got a bit old.
Overall, this was just one of those books to have a lark about. Not the best, not the worst, just something to fill in when you want a bit of fluff.

Occasionally quite amusing romance between two very different people who have not finished with their past and are not ready or willing to invest into a new relationship - were it not for the daughter of Taggart having ideas of her own, and the determination to see them happen.
Very likeable and realistic characters with self-doubts and burdens of their past, a good and interesting plot, but for me the narration style did just not connect. Simple language and structure when the story was told from the viewpoint of 8-year-old Becky, but unfortunately, this simple language and sentence structure bled into the the adults' part, with definitely adult contents - which just made for some weird reading. Also, there was too much of the narrative and descriptive part, and not enough dialogue for me.
Apart from that, though, I really liked this story in the Tanner Brothers series, and would not mind reading more (hoping the narration style is a bit different).

This is fun, heartwarming and sweet story of a little girl wanting a mom and a woman to make her dad happy. Taggert is an ex-championship bull rider turned bull riding teacher and single father to six year old. Becky, Taggert's daughter, and her best friend Susannah decide to play matchmaker for her dad with her teacher Felicity. Taggert doesn't want to be set up because he's been hurt in the past and doesn't want to open his heart again. Felicity is a strong woman who holds her own and is bound to prove she can handle anything. My favorite part was when Felicity decides to take one of Taggert's bull riding classes and even though she gets banged up and bruised, she refuses to quit. GREAT read!!

This was a fun story.
Felicity is the new teacher in town, and a widow. Taggart is a divorced single dad and a former bull rider who is afraid of loving again. And Becky is Taggart's meddling daughter who, with the help of her friend Susannah, is trying to pick a new mother for herself, no matter what her father wants.
I loved all of the characters in this book. Becky and Susannah really were quite methodical in their attempts to push Felicity and Taggart together. But I think even without the meddling, eventually they would've come to notice each other. It's a small town after all. I especially loved how dedicated Felicity is to her students and how hard she works to set a good example for them. She would do anything for her students and it made her extra likable.

This was a cute, clean read, different from the usual flavor of category romance because we start out the story in the head of a third character, the daughter (Becky) who wants to find a new wife for her gun-shy father, who'd gotten burned. The little girl is adorable; her taciturn, bull-rider father (Taggert) worships the ground she walks on; and her California-transplant, recently-widowed teacher (Felicity) is warm, sensible, and Becky senses, a perfect future mother. The story is fun because both Becky and Tanner think in "bull riding lore", and I won't spoil the end, but Felicity proves that anybody can pick themselves up off the ground and dust themselves off at the end.
I'll be checking out the other Tanner Brothers novels.

Very good.
This story follows Felicity. She loses her husband. Then she inherited a ranch in Montana. She gets hired as a teacher in the local school. Becky is one of her students.
Becky decides to play matchmaker for her dad Taggert. Both Felicity and Taggert fifth their feelings each because of their respective marriages. They decide to go on a date. They end up slipping into a ditch and are trapped inside the cab of the truck all night.
Felicity makes a deal with one of the parents of a student. She'll learn something new and if does it, she can teach the student her way of teaching.
You have to read it to see what she ends up doing and see where this romance leads. Enjoy!!!

The Cowboy And The Kid is a fabulous contemporary/western romance by Anne McAllister. Ms. McAllister has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with a stellar cast of characters. Becky is 8 and she thinks her dad is sad and maybe needs a wife. Felicity didn't know why two of her students were stalking her. When Becky and her friend's antics brought Taggart to school he finally discovers they'd been trying their hands at matchmaking. Felicity and Taggart's story is packed with drama, humor, spice and just a touch of suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Anne McAllister in the future. The Cowboy And The Kid is book 4 of the Tanner Brothers Seris and book 4 of the Code of the West Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

If you watched Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap and loved that movie then you're in for a treat. The Cowboy And The Kid is a truly delightful take on that theme. I've laughed myself silly through the pages of this story!
Eight year old Becky is just priceless in her efforts to match Taggart, her father, with Felicity, her teacher. Taggart isn't keen on a relationship after the disaster of his marriage and Felicity has also avoided one as she's been mourning her dead husband. While Taggart and Felicity are front and centre in this story, Becky comes very close to stealing the show. An extensive support cast of bulls, cowboys and school children add depth to what is a very entertaining story.

The Cowboy and the Kid by Anne McAllister is the fourth in her Code of the West and Tanner Brothers series. Taggart Jones is a retired champion bull rider and single father. Felicity Albright is Becky’s elementary school teacher.
Becky’s dad clearly needs a wife, and she’s found the perfect one. Her efforts to get the ball rolling had me rolling with laughter, and Anne McAllister’s warm descriptions of Taggart and Felicity and their friends and community kept me smiling as I turned the pages. Taggart definitely has some emotional baggage, and Felicity is no fool or pushover.
Loved this addition to the series, and am looking forward to the last in the set.

A delightful entertaining story of two daughters who cook up a scheme to find a wife for single father, Taggert. Pickings are slim in their small town, until new teacher, Ms Albright arrives. The story however has its complications with Taggert's vow to never marry again after his wife deserted and divorced him; and Felicity's husband died 2 years ago. However the chemistry between them is off the charts even without the girls' matchmaking attempts!

This is a short novella that is book four in an ongoing Tanner Brother’s series, but it can be read as a standalone. In it Ms. McAllister treats her readers to a cast of characters that are so life like you almost expect to see them at the local diner. She has a way of making them very real especially when it comes to portraying their emotions. This is a nice quick read that will have you smiling and laughing at two little girls the entire way through.

Just as good the second time
I read this when it first came out in paperback, but didn't realize that when I picked it up again. It was just as good the second time. It missed five stars because of its simplicity. However, there were several laugh-aloud places, the characters were fresh, and there was quite a bit of interesting philosophy tucked in. As a teacher, I particularly appreciated her discussion of different learning styles. Well worth the read.

A great quick read easy to follow along. This one about Taggart and his daughter Becky and the life they have lived is a great adventure. Taggart and his rodeo circuit traveling partner Noah end up retiring together and become business partners so Taggart could be closer to his daughter all the time. Then Felicity steps into the picture when she moves to Elmer to teach. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start.

Truly excellent
In every way. A western love story set in Montana between a teacher and an ex Rodeo cowboy. It couldn’t get any more romantic for my tastes. Throw in an errant snow storm, the prerequisite hardheadedness from EVERYONE and this is a great little story worthy of all 5 stars.

Great series
I cannot believe this story. I knew Taggart & Felicity would get together in the end but not the bravery it took to get there, especially what Felicity did. Becky is the cutest manipulator ever and the best cheerleader. I liked the inclusion, although minor, if Noah, Tess, and Savannah. Great story! Can't wait to continue the series.
