Jane Considine's book, The Write Stuff, is a system for the successful teaching of writing. The methods explained are effective, exciting and they work. What makes good writing? More importantly, what makes a good teacher of writing? This book is for busy teachers and interested parents overwhelmed by curriculum change and inundated with educational initiatives. It has been written to bring clarity to an arena where so much data is available but this data is not transferred to useful information or to effective practice. "This is a must have book for every school teacher, who will ask themselves "How on earth did I teach kids to write before I read this book?"" Rob Smith - Literacy Shed "Before I met Jane Considine I was working really hard on the wrong things. The FANTASTICs, GRAMMARISTICs and BOOMTASTICs have changed how I teach for life! Pupils respond so well to the structure and understand how to build effective pieces of writing." Gill Clarke - Carlton Primary School
I had looked forward to reading this book for ages, having heard great things about it. Having read it, I'm now thinking perhaps I need to be teaching UK curriculum to get excited about this one. There are certainly some ideas and elements that I can adapt but it felt a lot like it was written to enable teachers to tick off UK curriculum boxes, rather than to grow amazing writers.
