Finally it's over

Don't get me wrong, the characters are nice, but it was a pretty slow slog with some unnecessary drama thrown in at the end to set up the HEA. I feel like it missed a lot of opportunity too, no conflict between them (other than the last) and very little outside interaction (mostly just them hanging out). I would have liked to see Nick and Brody attend an Army ball, or something where they had to "pretend." It was obvious from the start where it was going to end and it seemed to take forever to get there.

I am 3/4 of the way through and up until the whole Brody is a stubborn asshole for wanting to go to his first choice school theme started this was a 5 star for me. But it's heading downhill fast because I want to tell Brody he isn't the only person who needs to bend here and wanting to follow your dreams doesn't make you a prick. I'll update my review when I am done if I change any of the above opinions but it's not looking good.

....finished and just ugh. I loved the first 3/4 and the last 1/4 just ruined the whole thing. Addy needs a life and a love of her own and being the third wheel of a gay marriage....give me a break. So dissatisfied with the ended I can't even express myself.

description

Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Brody & Nick (Something About Him #2)
by A.D. Ellis

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh Brody and Nick…..these two are quite a pair. Brody is looking to make a little bit of extra money so he hatches a plan with his friend/ex FWB Roomie Nick to get married. They are going to live together as husband and husband just for a year. Sounds easy enough right?? OF COURSE NOT SILLY!!!

Brody is used to living a rigid existence in the military so when he is out of work he tends to be a little ADD. Nick is Mr. College Student. He is very organized and pretty smart but he is finding himself falling under the spell of charming Mr. King. When the two make some “boundaries” it all seems that their fake marriage will go off without a hitch. Then some of Brody’s military buddies catch wind of the scheme so the pair have to up their game and really “sell this marriage”.
Along the way Brody is realizing he is in love with Nick and that SCARES THE HECK OUTTA HIM!! Nick is falling more in love with Brody and he hopes that when Brody leaves him, he will be able to pick up and move on. Nick and Brody both lean on Ad who is their best friend. She helps Nick keep the faith in Brody and helps Brody open his eyes to what he has in front of him. Between Brody’s fear and Nick’s accident at work, the couple finally open up and tell their truths but it further freaks Brody out.

I loved loved loved loved the epilogue and really hope that Addie gets a book because she is an awesome chick.

Obviously by the title you know the MC’s are Brody and Nick. No secret there. But there story is quite fabulous.
Brody and Nick have this arrangement and it’s very clever. They fake a marriage in the military to gain funds and off base housing… other things. I’m not military savvy, sorry. But it’s smart because the benefits are wonderful. Anyway, a fake marriage… you see where this is going.
A.D. Ellis has a sort of poetry to her writing especially when it comes to emotion. As Brody & Nick begin to fall in love with each other, the writing and emotions grow… A crescendo of passion!!! You really become the characters when that happens.
Not a lot of angst in this tale but some very emotional scenes that will make you mumbling curses.
Wonderful epilogue. I’m thrilled she wrote one in there because it needed that. It tied up some loose ends and nagging questions I was having.
This is a great love story and if that’s what you’re in to than this is a great book for you.

Facile, no?

Brody and Nick marry for convenience and do the relationship from roommates to partners and lovers as they fall in love along the way. It's a bit slow moving but I enjoyed reading their story. The author paints her scenes perfectly and delivers an entertaining read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This just got worse and worse.

Starting at 3 stars In the beginning it seemed a bit juvenile but cute enough. The plot device used to ensure our couple have to is pretty lame and then never referenced again but that's okay I was only looking for a light bedtime read.

But then we move into 2 star range because we completely skip the best part of marriage of convenience stories - the falling in love. Seriously it goes from planning on being seen visibly dating their spouse to being happy they have been doing so. It then moves into the less fun part of these stories immediately. That would be the lack of communication part. So incredibly dull.

And then it just got stupid and thus finally plunged into 1 star range. And yes the characters were behaving as if stupid most of the story but this was a new low.

(fyi - the following really is a large spoiler for the completely logic free end drama)

At the beginning of the book the author asked us to accept that characters sometimes do things we don't agree with. I completely accept that. But I still like my characters to at least make some sense. And where we could have seen Brody and Nick work through their problem together we sadly just get to see one of them fully capitulate while the other never once considers what the first one is giving up.

I’ve found another new-to-me author to follow!

Brody & Nick is a stand-alone romance in the Something About Him series of unrelated stories. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Ellis but it surely won’t be the last.

Brody will be getting out of the Army in a year but he wants to move off base now. If he gets married he’ll get a housing allowance. He figures he can split the rent with his new husband and they will both save money. When the year is up they can both go their separate ways.

Nick will graduate from college in a year so Brody’s plan seems perfect to him since he doesn’t really like his current housemate and he and Nick are already friends. Neither of them counted on falling in love.

I always find it hardest to write a review for a book that I really love. There is no way that my writing skills can adequately express how much I loved this story. The story itself is a new twist on the old “marriage of convenience” trope and it’s done extremely well. The characters are likeable and their story was one that captivated me right from the beginning. The heat between Brody and Nick is off the charts. The sex scenes are hot but not gratuitous.

As almost always with books I love, this one had my emotions all over the place and I found myself doing an ugly cry more than once. Brody is such an idiot at times that I just wanted to smack him, but he is also a very caring individual who suffers from low self-confidence and bouts of depression. Nick is very supportive of Brody even when he suspects that he’s going to get his heart broken.

I love epilogues and the one for Brody & Nick is one of the best I’ve ever read. I also fell in love with Addie who starts out as Brody’s best friend but she later becomes as good a friend to Nick. I would love to see Addie get her own story with guest appearances by Brody and Nick.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in the series along with A.D. Ellis's writing style, so I was thrilled to read Brody and Nick's story.

4* ~ I loved the idea of the fake marriage and when the two guys actually fell in love with each other and had wonderful dates, but were reticent about declaring their true feelings. There were some lovely scenes between Brody and Nick showing how much they cared, liked being together, and wanted a real long-term marriage. The angsty parts were wonderfully written and brought tears to my eyes.

3* ~ Avoiding spoilers, I had difficulty in understanding why Brody wanted to move off base in the first place as he only had one year of service left and greater difficulty comprehending his decision at the end of their first year of marriage. It left me feeling Brody was very selfish and self-absorbed and didn't really love Nick in the way I thought he did. Although the epilogue was a HEA, it was unexpected and not the way I wanted their story to go. Thinking back, it had been hinted at, but I was wishing for something different.

Overall, an enjoyable read I'd recommend.

Let me start out by saying that even though this says its Book 2, it's in no way related to Book 1 and can be read as a standalone. There was no mention of any character or events that connect the two books.

Brody is in the military and looking for a way to scam (let's call it what it is) the system for off base living and decides to proposition his texting/sexting pal into marriage to help them both save money.

Of course, the decision to marry and be friends with benefits led to more feelings and wanting something more than a fake marriage. And Brody has to work through what he really wants for his life.

I enjoyed/liked almost all the characters in this book. Everyone should have a friend like Addie to stand with them, mix them drinks and kick them when they need it.

I was leery about reading this book after the first one. I had strong opinions and none of them were good but I'm really glad I gave this book a chance. And the epilogue in this book is the kind I love to read, though I'm greedy and would definitely read a follow up book to Brody, Nick and Addie!

My Recommendation Pass. Honestly, the best thing I can say about these is that they appear to be getting shorter. They really could've used a few more rounds of edits and beta readers to make the stories more believable.

My Response The cover still sucks and doesn't really make me think of either Brody or Nick. I am still PISSED about the asinine cliche line about "favorite guy/gal/girl/man" (see OPENING LINE BELOW).

I liked the story better than the first because it was a friends-to-lovers versus a hook up turned "gay for you" romance—which I have a list of reasons why that didn't work or even really happen in the first book. I liked the how the characters schemed to better themselves, but ultimately fell for each other.

What can I say I love Brody and Nick.

Brody in the military wants to live off base but in order to get the allowance he needs to be married. Brody has known Nick for a little while and are friends so when Brody starts thinking of who he can marry for just a year Nick comes to mind. Nick looking to save some thinks this could be a good idea and Brody being hot doesn't hurt either. So they get married but will it be just for a year as their feelings start to grow?

This book is so well written. The written in dual POVs you get to see their feelings start to grow for one another as part of the ARC of the story. Ms. Ellis also hits on some very interesting subjects from depression to being gay in the military both written with care and sensitivity that touched me. The dialog between the characters is witty and funny as well.

All in all this is a great book and well worth the time.

I loved this book. "Brody and Nick" captivated me from the start. Two people marrying more as a business arrangement instead of love is a concept that has been written about plenty. Nick and Brody's story was fresh and interesting. The fact that they didn't think things through to the end made for a very delightful story. Both Nick and Brody seemed real and the way they both bumbled through their relationship scared of what the ends of the year would bring was both adorble and frustrating. I'm still not sure how I feel about Addie it seems like she was more invested in Nick and Brody's life than her own. The gift she gave them was great but it seemed like her happiness depended on them and nothing else. I don't believe that I've ever read anything else by this author but I will be reading more.

This book was perfect. It had two perfect guys fall perfectly in love with each other over the course of their perfect fake marriage. It had a few perfectly-timed outside influences set to perfectly add relationship development or character development so they two could become yet more perfect. They found the perfect house for the perfect price, had a perfect dog, a perfect best friend (who was the perfect emotionally-interpretive fag-hag), and at least one set of perfect parents (whom we were told hadn't always been perfect so we could understand how perfect they were now). All obstacles were perfectly overcome.

It was... rather mind-numbing, actually. I'm all for an occasional perfect story, but they really need to be much shorter than this one was. I can only handle about a quarter of this amount of perfection before my eyes roll out of my head.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I loved reading about Brody and Nick and their struggle to find their happily ever after.

Brody and Nick are friends that have keep in touch through texts, while Brody was deployed. During this time it suggested that they do something unconventional to help each other out.

Will their plan ruin everything or will they eventually find/get their happily ever after they deserve?

Many things where touched that brought forth ideas/things that happen that don't get discussed very often. This was mainly depression of someone being gay, however the author covered it very nicely.

I received this book as an arc and loved it

Brody and Nick are both looking to save money and Brody approaches Nick to marry him to save on housing.

They both need to learn how to communicate through this marriage and are not knowing how the other feels. You watch them fall in love and struggle in the end to keep the marriage together.

I loved them realizing they loved each other and the struggle they went through to fight for each other.

I LOVED Addie. I wish I had a best friend like her..

Love this book

Brody and Nick started out their lives in an unconventional way. They married to save money. They barely knew each other. Brady's friend Addie was against it at first but came to support him and Nick. The ups and downs in this book were an awesome rollercoaster. The three of them were so fun and glad that the book ended the way it did. Loved it.

*author copy* I loved reading Brody and Nick's story. it was a wonderful journey going from friends to a happily married couple. and the ups and downs along the way really made them realize what they had was real. I would recommend reading this series.

Again wanting to kick the MC. This is getting violent. Overall, really liked this one, just wish Brody didn't have his head up his butt.

The entire book was great... riiiiiiight up until the epilogue, which I found kinda icky and unnecessary.
