Treasure of the Dead takes us back to right after Maddock and Bones left the Seals. Bones is in Las Vegas but having a hard time adjusting to life outside of the military. Dane Maddock has refurbished a boat and has started a treasure hunting business. While Bones may protest....his heart really isn't in it and he jumps at the chance for adventure.
This 1st treasure hunt finds the duo along with another Seal buddy, Willis, in Haiti. A Spanish ship carrying a great deal of wealth was lost in a storm and everything points to the area around Haiti. Bones is pleased to find that Fabi, a one time girlfriend, lives there.
Of course, nothing is ever easy with Dane and Bones. Besides the usually bad guys trying to stop them, this time there are zombies.....or are there?
Love these Origin stories to get background information.

Another fun novel by David Wood and Rick Chesler. Treasure of the Dead has enough twists and turns to make your head spin. If you are a fan of the Dane and Bones series, this book will not let you down. It has the same elements any reader of speculative fiction itches for action, adventure, and fantasy all rolled up into one which makes for an exciting story that will keep you flipping pages. I recommend Treasure of the Dead. A 4.5 rating.

I loved this book. I enjoy the Dane Maddock series, otherwise why would I be working my way through the series but to be honest I listen to it for the action and banter, the history and the usual deciphering of the clues leading to the treasure is a little bit above my head. This book was perfect though and I didn't want it to end, well maybe I did just to make sure everybody made it safe, it was touch and go. This might be book nine in the origins series but it is the start of the treasure hunting adventures after leaving the Navy Seal's, There is a little bit of history and as usual it starts with the circumstance that leads to are hero's searching for the treasure but it is the rest of the story that held me captivated, wondering what was going to happen. More like this please.

What can I say? I just love Dane and Bones! David Wood has created a duo of adventurers par to no one. The banter between them always makes me laugh. And the action scenes are full throttle. Strongly recommend this book!

Another great read. Fast paced, exciting and action packed. Keeps the audience orientated and focused on the story at hand. I would highly recommend.

Another fun novel about Maddock and Bones. I enjoyed getting more of their background stories makes them seem more real.

I really got engaged in the story as it transformed but would have liked it to end with the boys pulling the treasure up.

This is a slower start in the way of action for Maddock and Bones. But the authors strategically write in sections, as they are known for, with other characters. The events of the other characters then leads to our guys arriving, and things don't go as smoothly as it should, which could be to Bones and Maddock's liking. Well, maybe just Bones. They do enjoy their danger.

In 1715 a ship full of treasure has been pushed off course with terrible storms. El Senor San Miguel runs onto land. When one of the crew makes land, he is horrified by what he finds limping on the beach.
Bones agrees to go on treasure hunting in the vast ocean with Maddock and has the first spot in mind. Bones had received a call from a dear friend of his when she received information from a cousin that's been found dead, mauled by animals. Maddock and Bones will quickly learn that trouble follows them whether in the service or on their own hunting treasure.
Jeffrey has voiced all the stories in this world with these men, and he is with us again. Jeffrey has become the voice of Maddock and Bones and all friends they interact with. The best part, I feel as the personality and tone given to Maddock and Bones fit the people written in words. For some reason Bones feels natural, but he's probably my favorite of the two. lol. Jeffrey never gives away a feel that something is coming, he adds just enough tension to the story by keeping in the here and now. This leaves me feeling comfortable with the characters but knowing with the writing of David and Rick that something is coming, I'm just waiting for it.
In the beginning we see a glimpse of a different side of Maddock and Bones. They left SEAL just months ago, and both are struggling adjusting to civilian life. Bones seems to be worse in a different way than Maddock, needing a release for pent up frustration. I like seeing them struggle after their life has been SEAL for so long. The life they lived is completely different than how they are to live now. Maddock shows up to ask Bones to help on a treasure hunting expedition, something they know how to do but less dangerous for their lives. These two never lose their great humor that makes me smile even in the tough times.

This book is shorter in length, as audio it's just shy of 5 hours. The authors keep the story to the point of action, where we learn details of what we are looking for which leads eventually to troubles for our guys. We don't waste time getting from one point to the next as long as there is nothing extraordinary happening.
When things start to come out in the end, it all happens fast. Maybe a bit to fast, but that's the way it washes out in the end - all at once.

Treasure of the Dead is another excellent Dane and Bones adventure. It takes place early on, not long after they leave the Seals. They go on their first treasure hunt together, and it is one wild ride. The action is non-stop and intense and I had a hard time putting this book down. And to make it even better, there are zombies!

Dane & Bones are at it again!
David Wood teams up with Rick Chesler again. Two of my favorite authors writing short adventure fiction definitely peaks my interest. So much so that as soon as I finished the book I was reading after receiving this book, I just went right into this.
Much similar to Wood & Chesler, Treasure of the Dead brings back Dane and Bones for another adventure. This time they are going out on what they think is a normal treasure hunt. But, can anything ever be normal for Dane and Bones?
I absolutely love these sub-6-hour audiobooks for these stories. I know that some people don't like spending money on shorter books like this, but I got more enjoyment out of this 5-hour audiobook than I've gotten out of 13+ hour ones.
I haven't read all of Wood's original (longer) stories or all of the Dane and Bones novellas, but every one of them that I've read feels incredibly well researched and thought out. Every time I read it I feel like I have stepped into the shoes of the adventure team that is heading out with Dane & Bones and we are definitely going to have a story to tell once we make it home again.
The narration was done by Jeffrey Kafer who absolutely crushes it like he has for all of the other Wood stories I've listened to. If you don't know Kafer's name and you're into audiobooks I'd be shocked.
Overall, Treasure of the Dead was a great story that took a few twists and turns that I didn't expect. It kept me glued to my seat waiting for the end. And when the end came, I was beginning for more (and I know I'll get it with another book soon.)

Treasure of the Dead is a Dan and Bones Origin story by David Wood. This story is about their first treasure hunt after retiring from the SEALs.
Dane has decided to go into the treasure hunting business and talks Bones into partnering up for their first treasure. They got to Haiti to look for a Spanish ship from the early 1700s. Bones also has a sometimes girlfriend there that he is happy to see. There are tales of zombies surround the shipwreck too. Should be quite the adventure. And it is.
Dane and Bones are true to form. There is adventure, danger and humor. David Wood is excellent at keeping their personalities consistent. It is very fun and easy to read. If you like the Dane and Bones books, you will not be disappointed with this one.

In this book Maddock and Bones are searching for a famous lost ship with treasure, while fighting zombies. It is a little bit weird that I like these books as much as I do, but I think they are a kind of guilty pleasure. Also, they are potato chips books, as in you always want one more. The characters of Maddock and Bones are very, very stereotypical ex navy seals, and somewhat one dimensional. Each book is based on a historical myth, and they are sometimes a little bit repetitive. But the action and adventure is great and very fast paced, and the books are enjoyable.

Another exciting adventure from the Dane and Bones Origins series. This novel takes us back to the beginning of the duo's treasure hunting business. After leaving the SEALS, Danes recruits Bones and Willis to put their skills to use as treasure hunters. Their first trip takes them to Haiti to search for the wreckage of a lost Spanish ship. They join up with one of Bones "occasional flames" and the adventure begins.
The wit of these characters is always entertaining and certainly always brings me back for more!

My favorite characters are back with more of the back story of Willis. This can be a stand alone book.
Maddox gathers his team to go hunting for a sunken treasure but nothing but trouble meets him at every turn. Bone is one of my very favorite characters and just love to visit him on his crazy adventures. The interactions between Maddox and Bones is wild.
I did recieve a copy of this book for an honest review. I honestly love this pair.

This is one of the best books in the series. It has a great mix of leaving things to the imagination, yet explaining just enough to keep the story credible. And zombies! Who doesn't love them.
Was great to see how the treasure hunting team got started.
Anyone with a love of good ole adventure stories will enjoy not only this book, but the whole series. Highly recommend!

This Origins story is based when Dane and Bones are making the transition from Navy Seals to treasure hunters. They arrive in Haiti to help a friend find out why their brother was murdered and also search for a lost Spanish Galleon full of gold. The book is full of diving, searching old forts and dungeons.. and zombies!! Not stop thrills and adventure.

First, I'll have to admit that I'm no fan of zombie books. However the characters and action are the great attributes of the Maddock and Bones stories. I didn't think that the ending was as good as the rest of the David Wood books, but, hey, everyone has their own opinions.

Continuing the origins of Maddock and Bones partnership, this book is the first treasure hunt after leaving the seals. Good story that moves at a nice pace.

Good read
Full of action and drama. A fast novella that is fun to read during a thunderstorm while on vacation. Recommended!
