Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.

Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.

Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.

Johnson speaking at a conference
Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.

While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".

In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"

In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.

According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.

Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.

I feel humbled after reading this book. I’m not going to say I likely agree theologically with most of what Bill Johnson or Randy Clark believe, but I aspire to have even half their zeal in ministering to others. I also found myself agreeing with and embracing much of what they said theologically and practically about healing. I learned A LOT from reading this. Buzz words that I used to scoff at were cast in new light and explained, surprisingly, biblically. Though there were still some things that I felt were weird and recoiled at, I’m open to feeling so because of a lack of experience and won’t write it off unless God’s word leads me too. The book is comprised of what was originally an interview, the first half is Bill Johnson being interviewed by Randy Clark and the second half is the reverse. I listened to the book in one day.

This is a great book. I listened to it on audible and it was so encouraging. It’s formatted as an interview between Randy Clark and Bill Johnson. They are sharing stories and insight about operating in the gift of healing and faith while they minister. It was so encouraging and faith building!

Yeah, these two men are so inspiring. There is no way you can read this book and not want what they have, what Jesus has. This book will rock your world.
This book didn’t start out that way, it was supposed to only be a DVD but they decided to put it in book format and I am so grateful they did.
I wasn’t sure how I would like the format of an interview but I was easy caught up in Billy and Randy sharing their stories of healing and the format of interviewing didn’t matter at all
I love what Bill said in one chapter, “…action releases faith.” I so believe that. Sometimes we have to move and that will release our faith. Sometimes we have to raise our hands, get out of the pew.
This book has reminded me of what I really am missing in my faith, things that the world has pushed out in the busyness of life. I want to get back to that faith? How about you?

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley.com. All opinions are my own.

This is the book that I want to finish as soon as possible but at the same time I don't want this book to end. I've been to a lot of miracle healing crusades and always see miracles. I want to know behind the scenes and what happens, this book explain a lot of things, show me, and inspire me, explained to me things that I always wanted to know. This book has built my faith and I am so thankful that I was able to read it since it truly touch my spirit. I wish I could have given this book 10 stars.

Randy Clark and Bill Johnson take you on their personal journeys of self discovery of their call in the healing ministry. As two individuals who have worked together, each has had their own experiences, trials and triumphs. As such, they share their collective knowledge with you in the pages of this book. You get a true sense of their heart for others and see how they've come to be where they are today.

This is one book that you'll want to read over and over. I have and I will definitely be reading it again.

This book is essentially a minuted version of Randy Clark and Bill Johnson interviewing one another. So you can search for the Audio Book or the DVD if you prefer those formats to reading this book. I felt that the book ended too soon - this is one of the few books whereby the authors could have probably added more content, elaborating on the existing material or supplementing them with more illustrations/examples/explanations of testimonies/personal insight.

I grew up in a thoroughly charismatic church and am studying in an Assemblies of God-affiliated seminary. However, my love and passion for faithful, exegetical preaching/studying of Scripture has drawn me toward my present expository-centered church, which has led to my leaning toward a more reformed position toward healing, miracles and deliverance - that these are not the normal operations of the Holy Spirit.

While I still am not a cessationist, I acknowledge that my posture toward pain and suffering - physical, psychological, economical etc. - is that of desiring more of a reality of God than for deliverance from the problem. I am therefore highly encouraged by Clark and Johnson, who challenge my theology and remind me how my brothers and sisters in Christ are so precious in God's sight and how we complement one another in ministry. I am also compelled to reconsider my level of faith and expectation for divine intervention when I pray for another person, even if he/she is a pre or post Christian. I highly recommend reading (and lending the book to others to read) Randy Clark's personal healing testimony (first chapter in Part 2 of the book).

If I enjoyed the book so much, then why the 4 star rating? While I understand the intention to faithfully reproduce the interviews, the impromptu follow up questions and a back-and-forth dialogue do not make for readable or thorough coverage of a topic/subject matter. I felt that many of the chapters, especially in the second part of the book (Bill Johnson interviewing Randy Clark) were abruptly cut off pre-maturely without covering what they were discussing. Hopefully in the subsequent editions these could be ironed out so that readers would not be left hanging.

I received this book from Baker Publishing Group's Chosen Books Blogger Review Program for the purposes of providing an unbiased review. All views are my own.

I wanted to like this book. I really am inspired by Bill Johnson's and Randy Clark's ministry. These two men have been obedient to bringing the Gospel and the name of Jesus to thousands (millions?) throughout the world through the power of the Holy Spirit using healings and wonders. However, this book focuses so singularly on healings, that the Gospel is all but forgotten. That is not how these two men operate, but it is how this book is presented. Healings happen so that folks can have their lives transformed by the Gospel. Central to all of that is Jesus - the foundation to our faith. In this book, Jesus is hardly mentioned. Holy Spirit - all over the place. God the Father - time and again. Jesus barely shows. This book lacks the balance that I know is a part of these men's ministries, and that is a shame. Experiences of healing for the sake of experiences of healing is nothing short of idolatry without the message of the Gospel.

It is very informative and inspiring book on those who are after praying for the sick. Loved the sharing on the genesis and how they go after healing and word of knowledge. Would recommend anyone interested in praying for the sick to read this book without fail.

If you've spent years seeking out and going after more of God, and even seeing a degree of healing when you pray, but need a fresh boost, like me, this will do it. It will get you hungry again! For anyone who isn't familiar with the types of miraculous things becoming more and more common these days, prepare to be amazed, and maybe even a little skeptical. But I have been in meetings where this sort of thing takes place. It is truly spectacular. Love both these guys, love their hearts, and love hearing these testimonies.
