THIRST FOR BLOOD For his daring defiance of death in the Circus Maximus arena, Marcus Julius Brittanicus had become the darling of Roman society. There his lusty good looks and violence aroused excitement even among those long jaded by wealth and decadence.
But now his lust for vengeance had a target more lethal than any he had before pursued. Now he was committed to avenge the violation of his beautiful and proud mother, the Princess Iceni, by his fellow Roman officers. With his sword, his knife, and his murderous rage as his only trusted companions, Marcus begins his pilgrimage of terror and torture. In the slow, sweet act of revenge he would find the glory of his manhood....
This one was a hoot!! I rather enjoyed the action throughout and the single minded determination of Marcus to bring his mother's rapists and murderers to 'justice'. While this book is not 'graphic', given the subject matter it may not appeal to everyone's sensibilities. The story is written much like the first one: the beginning shows Vulpus (Marcus) now driving a chariot in the races, the middle a flashback to his time in Britain, and the end with the finish of the race. Vulpus (Marcus) is the Mad Max of the games. I look forward to reading the next one.
Man, that was dreary. A men's adventure paperback series set in Ancient Rome. Our hero is trying to be the best Roman he can be, after a family scandal, while exacting revenge on a half dozen men.
The book does a good job of establishing place and time, but the same effort was not put into the cast. Even our hero isn't that interesting.
The author loves reveling in the gory details, so you are guaranteed that any sex or death scene is going to drag for a couple pages. There's the occasional clever bit of description, but I stopped having fun very quickly and this became a slog.
Shame, as it sounds like the kind of series I'd like.
I loved these Roman historical stories as a young child, unfortunately a bit too young. I would only recommend these to 14yrs and older. Reread in 1989 - the second in the Marcus Roman invasion of Britain, and no wonder I kind of forgotten half of it, there is little plot. I really needed the first book. good, exciting but slightly obscene. More a lads book than anything else, quite gory.
