It's hard to believe that this is now the twelfth book in this series. Seems like it was just yesterday first discovered and binged myself on this deliciously sexy series. I've been a huge fan, eagerly anticipating each installment. And now twelve books into it, it still doesn't disappoint.
Heath Powell first caught my attention as the bodyguard in Wicked for You. Even as a secondary character, there was something so arresting about him that I simply couldn't help but crave this story. After finishing this book, I can tell you that he definitely didn't disappoint.
Heath is no stranger to tragedy in his life. Having lost his wife to tragic violence, he's never moved on and never made the effort to heal. He's been moving through life, one unattached hookup at a time. While he fancied himself in love with Mystery, he's lost her to Axel and he's ok with that. Now a stunning beauty that wants nothing more from him than his protection and professional opinion has captivated him beyond reason...if only he can convince her how hot they can burn.
Jolie Quinn is a take no prisoners business woman. The last thing she wants to do is end up liker her flighty mother, moving on from one failed marriage to the next. She doesn't need a man to define her. She's focused on one thing only; her career. So why is the sexy Brit determined to protect her from a threat to her life and business suddenly makes her want to give in, if only just once?
I'll admit that I was a bit worried that I wouldn't click with Heath and Jolie's connection at first. Having lost his wife so tragically and then knowing of his feelings for Mystery, I was afraid that I'd feel like he was settling. That couldn't be further from the truth. I love the way the author pulled it off. Their relationship was certainly on a fast track, but I was invested from start to finish.
Jolie was exactly the sort of heroine I gravitate to. She was tough, doesn't take any crap from anyone, and has a quick wit with a sharp tongue. There's also something so vulnerable about her that seems to come out only when she's around Heath.
Holding On Tighter was a sexy, action packed, thrill ride that had me glued to the pages from beginning to finish. I loved seeing all my past favorites and a few new faces that I can't want to learn more about. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this series.

When I got approved for this book I was SO excited. First Berkley NEVER approves me for ANYTHING...and probably never will again now...sigh. (I seriously think someone in their promo department made a mistake) and second I LOVE Miz Black and this series. Unfortunately, my joy was short-lived...
This book was rough right from the beginning. I don't mind OW sex scenes, but I do mind when a heroine sees the hero with the OW and knows they have JUST had sex. And when did Miz Black start with OW sex scenes in her books??
Anyways, Heath was seriously nasty, he was coming on to the heroine and telling her he was coming for her MINUTES after having his dick stuck in an OW in the hallway of a bar. Literally, they were standing RIGHT outside the bar and he was putting the moves on her. Now I could have gotten past that had it not been for the fact that he and the heroine are having sex a couple hours after he JUST had sex with the OW.
At least he showered first, but honestly...NO.
AND his sex with the OW is constantly brought up for the first 25% of the book. Add in the fact he JUST lost his wife 7 years previously. AND she is mentioned ad nauseum (as is his manwhore past..I mean we could literally not have a sex scene that wasn't compared to either his wife or one of his plethora of hookups). AND he was in love with a heroine from a previous book. I wanted to call it a day 25% into this thing.
On top of that, I found the heroine annoying as hell. Why can't authors write strong heroines without them coming off like uptight bitches?
That said I was determined to give this the ol college try. So I kept reading and although I got sucked more into the story about the stalker (Miz Black knows how to write a great book) it just never recovered enough from the beginning to make it a wholly enjoyable read. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.
Side Not: That epilogue hurt my brain. Seriously? Could we possibly have name dropped any more characters from previous books? What exactly was the point of having Cutter introduced to EVERY couple from the previous books? It was like the ending of an episode of The Waltons where everyone is saying "GOOD NIGHT" to John Boy!

I don't know where to start,maybe I should first say how much I loved it!From the moment I start reading it,I couldn't put it down!I loved everything about Holding on Tighter!It was scorching hot,passionate,intense,erotic and full of intrigue!!
Heath has everything I wanted to my hero!!He was mysterious,hot,sexy and bossy.I loved the connection he has with Jolie!They were intense and passionate!

The moment I read the blurb for this book, I knew I was going to like this book. It has:
Holding on Tighter is the twelfth book in Black’s Wicked Lovers series. Jolie Quinn is a rising fashion designer who is at the brink of unparalleled success with company Betti. After a rash of burglaries threatened her business, she enlists the help of security expert Heath Powell.
Heath is former MI5 who has no plan on sticking around after the job is done. He doesn’t want or need the encumbrance of a relationship. He takes what he needs for that night and doesn’t hesitate to walk away. His philosophy has served him well until he meets Jolie.
Despite the obvious spark of attraction between them, Heath and Jolie are wary of starting anything. But both have been informed by their pasts. Jolie by her mother’s revolving door of failed relationships, which made her cynical and distrustful, and Heath by the tragic and violent passing of his wife. Their relationship started off rocky, to say the least. Jolie is the kind of woman that normally wouldn’t attract Heath. And Jolie, with her cynicism is a bit of stuck up. Both have good reasons for not starting anything. But when Jolie’s life was threatened Heath steps in daring her to trust.
First off, I love Jolie Quinn. She’s tough, smart, ambitious and ruthless but with a hint of vulnerability hidden underneath. It’s not impossible to find a heroine in romance is accomplished but I have to admit that CEO heroines aren’t as plentiful as its male counterparts. So the fact that Jolie is a business woman with lofty dreams is a breath of fresh air.
Second, the chemistry between the Heath and Jolie are off the charts hot. They both have strong personalities and they both give it as good as they got. I like the dynamics between them. Heath is a natural dominant (although not exactly a Dom in a strict sense) but he’s a force of nature. He likes his women pliant and submissive. Jolie no submissive bone in her body and is too independent and self-reliant. And yet they work.
Heath recognizes Jolie’s need for independence. He revels in it knowing that when she submits, she does it because she trusts him and not because she was a natural at it. I really enjoyed that aspect in their relationship. They are equals in every way.
That said, this book is not without its flaws. The ending was a bit of a cheesefest and the epilogue was just confusing. I for one love cameos from characters from the previous books in the series. But not all of them at the same especially when there has been 11 books to the series already. I felt lost and that satisfying feeling that usually comes along with reading an epilogue dissipated.
Still, I enjoyed it very much and would definitely recommend it.

A truly breath catching and heart racing romance! A romantic suspense that will catch your blood on fire! One of my FAVORITE Wicked Lovers novels to date!

No THAT, I can get on board with! If you are familiar with the WICKED LOVERS series by Shayla Black, then you know her alphas are EVERYTHING, and Heath? Well, let's just say he is EVERYTHING and MORE! He is just so intense, so protective and possessive. He's primal and just delicious! And he met his match in Jolie Quinn. I absolutely ADORED these two together. It was tentative at first, with so much build-up that when they finally were together, fireworks jumped off of the pages!

For me, a 5 star read is one you are still thinking about the next day. It's one that you can't put down, or if you do it is only because you have fallen asleep. It's one where you feel you have gotten to know the characters in the book, and have come to care about them.
I want to know what happens after the epilogue for Jolie and Heath. I loved their chemistry and their attraction to one another was amazing. I loved that she went after what she wanted. I also really liked the fact that they were both fairly sure of who they were and what they wanted.
Heath has a one-night-only rule. He doesn't break it. And then he meets Jolie...and he struggles with the rule. And then he breaks it (not really a spoiler as it would be tough for them to develop much of a relationship if he held to the rule)and the internal dialog is great. You get to know him, how he thinks, and what he wants.
I loved that Jolie was not only strong, but was able to recognize when others had her best interest at heart. I appreciated this a lot. Often, strong women are depicted as unable to recognize this and that becomes the issue of the relationship. In this, they each respected the other for who they were...and they loved one another for who they were. I liked this a lot.
And, he is intense. And this is great. This is not my first book by Shayla Black, but I have not read all of the books in this series. That said, you don't need to have read them for you to be able to enjoy this entry into the series.
I recommend this book. Highly.

I'm so excited to start this one. I'm really crossing my fingers hoping it's going to be really really good.
This series is a bit repetitive now. The female is in danger. She then gets a strong alpha man to protect her and they fall in love. Judging the book alone it was good. I did like how Jolie was a strong indepedent woman. The suspense was really good I never did see it coming whom was trying to kill Jolie and who was the admirer. Eventhough I'm getting a bit tired of the series I still want to read the next ones. I will like to know how Karis and Cutter books end like.

So. Holding on Tighter. It started rough. And it ended rough. But the middle bits were good! lol I read this one back in February then promptly forgot to review it other than that. Erms. Blogger fail, moment! Ha!
So. Basically our heroine runs a fashion company and some weird happenings land her needing our hunky brit hero for a security once over. And, well, naughty shenanigans ensue. Naughty shenanigans with a British accent. Squee!
Jolie and Heath were actually pretty fun. She's a bit up tight. He's a bit of a manwhore. They both have their reasons. And can't seem to help getting nekkid in front of the other. There's a bit of suspense with her business, a lotta sexy times and some laughs, too. It worked overall and I enjoyed watching them get over their fucked up selves and find romance.
But the ending. Yall, it was the epilogue that would. not. fucking. end. I loathe epilogues that try to bring EVERY past character in and update on how they're doing. While I love hearing a little about past characters here and there this was such overkill it knocked half a point off the final book because I could not have cared less. And, yes, like four months later I'm still annoyed with the epilogue. lol

I think this installment of the WL books is starting to sound like many other Erotic Romances who are this far into a series as far as how far can the author take it as far as the hero is concerned when it comes to being a shameless man whore who is completely broken and uses sex as an outlet and the heroine who is drawn to him but is constantly stuck in the position where the plug is always chasing the light socket and she just happens to be attacked to the other end so she's dragged along for the ride.
The fact that manwhore status these days somehow equals a high level of attractiveness reduced my rating to four stars simply because I'm getting bored with the concept being inserted into nearly every Erotic novel I read.
However this is Shayla Black, there is plenty of fantastic writing and there is a minor concept that plays on the bodyguard theme between Jolie and Heath. Readers get plenty of tragedy and backstory and a ton of passion going on which was really great, I just wish I felt more heart along with it.
Still I thought Holding on Tighter was great and I look forward to reading the next installment in the future. Four stars for Holding on Tighter.

I was super excited to read the last book in Shayla Black's Wicked Lovers series as her books are sexy, emotional and heavy on the d/s. I did enjoy this latest installment with Heath and Jolie but felt that the novel was slightly all over the place in terms of plot and character development and heavy on the insta-love, which seemed out of place and contradictory at times.
I deeply enjoyed Jolie's strength, passion and dedication to her employees, family and her career but felt that she was borderline cold and callous when it came to her relationship with Heath. I never really saw her warm up to him. In addition, I felt that the author might have unnecessarily tried to create drama by combining two separate storylines (past and present) to an unsatisfying and confusing conclusion.
All in all, this was a nice read but not up to par with the outstanding novels I have read from this author in this series. But I will continue to read Ms. Black as I feel she has an innate ability to write magical books and amazing characters that stay with you!

The Wicked Lovers series is one that I really enjoyed when I started reading it many years ago, but somewhere I fell behind and have yet to get caught up. Luckily, Holding on Tighter was easily readable as a semi-standalone. There is character crossover from previous books in the series, but it wasn't so overwhelming that I felt completely lost.
I started off on a really good note with the heroine of this story. Jolie Quinn is an extremely driven, ambitious, independent, and hardworking woman. As an up-and-coming fashion designer, Jolie has literally dragged herself out of the trailer park to make something of her life, while helping to raise her younger brother and sister. Her mother's history of failed marriages has tainted Jolie's views on love and relationships, and she is now married to her job. Her drive, ambition and independence really resonated with me and I thought I would have a good connection to her character... but she went from admirable to bitchy quite fast and I found myself annoyed and not liking her character. I was a bit worried about the judgmental hardass aspect would turn me off the story... but in all fairness, Jolie's character does experience some personal growth and she stopped throwing that hand up so much as the story progressed.
Heath Powell is a sexy and dominant Brit. An ex-spy with a tragic past, he has come to the States drowning his grief in no-strings-attached sex in seedy nightclubs. Being hired to evaluate security for Jolie's clothing line, Betti, Heath is getting his first experience with an Type A female personality, and is undeniably drawn to Jolie's strength of character. I liked Heath's character, despite him being a bit of a horndog picking up random chicks left and right. Once you know his story, you will understand his behavior and will probably be siding with him when Jolie's bitchy side comes out.
The majority of this story takes place over a week or two... but something about the pacing kept it from feeling like an instalove situation. Neither Jolie not Heath was looking for a romantic entanglement, but you know what they say - love finds you when you aren't looking. The two had great chemistry and there were lots of steamy sexytime scenes to satisfy any smut lover. Personally I would have liked to sacrifice a sex scene or two to develop the suspense plot more... but I may be in the minority on that. After danger comes to Betti, Heath works to find out the motivation and culprit behind the attacks. The resolution was both (slightly) predictable and far-fetched... but that didn't detract all that much from my enjoyment. I just would have liked to see a little more action and anticipatory anxiety as I was reading.
The epilogue was a nice wrap up but I was so sad that I couldn't remember all the past couples that got in an appearance. This tells me its time to go back and re-read the series before I catch up with the later books.

This is part of the Wicked Lovers series and with each and every book in this series, Ms. Black writes a story that keeps and peaks my interest and makes me crave more. The plots , the action and the passion is just as intense and fresh as if it were book 1.
Holding On Tighter is book 12 in the series and the main characters in this book are Jolie Quinn & Heath Powell . Heath is one sexy and powerful British alpha male who has this past that he is trying to run from. He is ex MI5 and has now been hired as security for Jolie. Jolie is a woman that doesn’t take guff from anyone and she is struggling to keep her company together. She has learned from a young age that men lie and they cut out and run. Sorry lessons for a young girl to learn. So she depends only on herself and makes sure that her family can depend on her.
When an admirer starts leaving gifts for her sister and threats for her , things get hot and heat up super-fast. Heath comes in to be her bodyguard- not only does he want to be her bodyguard but he wants her except Jolie doesn’t want him to be that close to her because she cant afford to feel any attraction to her bodyguard. Things start to heat up in more ways than one. There is a stalker out , wanting to cause harm but who is the intended target? As the mystery of who her sister's admirer could be and who's after her continues to deepen, Heath and Jolie grow quite a bite closer. But the danger is growing closer and someone is going to get hurt. OMG, there is a lot of danger, passion, and heart that is in this book which made me really fall so much more in love with MS. Black’s “Holding on Tighter”, and the MC, especially the hero Heath. His past made him leery to fall in love yet when he meets Jolie, he fell so hard, so fast yet he didn’t want to admit what was right there- this alpha male was definitely the right man for Jolie. She reminded me of a thorny rose –delicate yet with a bite to her. Oh this is one book you do not want to miss. One of the best in the WL series yet!

Holding On Tighter will have you holding on tight to this incredibly addictive story! I WANT this on paperback because Heath blew me out of the freaking water, with his sexy domination and his incredible accent and just the confidant way he does everything! Jolie is one hell of a great reason too for loving this story. Her take charge attitude in the office and the way she speaks her mind and how she has this attitude that makes you think she is badass is just too appealing. I loved her and Heath and how she submitted to Heath but man, that submission only lasted IN the bedroom. And the inner fight she made while submitting just made the way she did it the more sweeter. I loved the incredible tension and the delicious sizzle with every wicked intimate moment between Jolie and Heath. And the action kept me on my toes and had me biting my nails throughout the story..and I thought I gave up biting my nails too!

This book has action, drama, intrigue.... and romance sprinkled with some really hot sex. Heath wants no part of settling down again. He did it once and lost big time. Jolie is a smart and savy business woman who knows what she wants. She thinks she doesn't need a man so when Heath is hired as her security expert, she's determined to keep him away from her. When her shop is broken into, that changes. Heath becomes her bodyguard and things heat up between them fast!

4.5 Stars What a fabulous addition to the Wicked Lovers series. Holding on Tighter is a great story, Jolie and Heath are amazing characters and although this series has come to an end it started amazingly and has finished the same way. Well Done Shayla Black I look forward to seeing where you take us next.

Heath is a man that knows what he wants and that is Jolie. They have great chemistry and the plot does a good job of bringing out the protector in Heath. Still there was something missing for me.

It was with great sadness that I read author Shayla Black's announcement that this story, Holding On Tighter, will be the last installment in her Wicked Lovers series. Thus my motivation to savor this awesome story. I fell in love with the Wicked Lovers series a number of years ago and have since eagerly awaited each successive story. As a matter of fact Jack Cole from book #1 in the series, Wicked Ties, continues to be one of my favorite book boyfriends. So from the beginning Shayla Black has provided lots of suspense, action and steamy sex scenes.
Holding On Tighter is no exception. There's plenty of all of the above to entertain readers when they delve into what happens when hero, Heath Powell, who we met in Wicked For You, is hired as a security consultant by heroine, Jolie Quinn, up and coming fashion business owner. Once again this author paints a three dimensional picture of a strong and dominant hero and a strong, feisty and sexy heroine. The storyline runs quite smoothly and the dialogue moves the story along in a delightful manner. One of my favorite lines goes like this as former MI5 agent , Heath is cooking a meal for Jolie and comments to her, "A man should have skills beyond a firing range, a tool bench, and a mattress."
Any avid reader of romantic suspense would be doing themself a favor by picking up this book and while they are at it head on into a great reading experience and start from the beginning and read the whole series.

Holding On Tighter is no exception. There's plenty of all of the above to entertain readers when they delve into what happens when hero, Heath Powell, who we met in Wicked For You, is hired as a security consultant by heroine, Jolie Quinn, up and coming fashion business owner. Once again this author paints a three dimensional picture of a strong and dominant hero and a strong, feisty and sexy heroine. The storyline runs quite smoothly and the dialogue moves the story along in a delightful manner. One of my favorite lines goes like this as former MI5 agent , Heath is cooking a meal for Jolie and comments to her, "A man should have skills beyond a firing range, a tool bench, and a mattress."

Interesting, the bodyguard from a previous book with Mystery is the main Hero in this book. I kinda loved that. I also loved that the Heroine is tough and doesn’t back down she isn’t weak at all she knows what she wants and she goes after it.
Jolie is a fair boss she wants all her employee’s to succeed she sets them up so that they will. We need more people like her in our real world.
Heath the British security contractor is soooo much more interesting in this book than the last truly I loved it. I liked that his way of thinking was changed because of Jolie.
Jolie’s sister is an interesting one too I though oh no she is a flake but there is more to her then what meets the eye.
Great narration even, the British Accent sounded authentic to me.

As always a wonderful book with great characters who find love. I liked that these two weren't looking for love but were both running from it.

Knowing that a well loved series is coming to an end, can leave you with an empty hole in your stomach. Holding On Tighter is an exceptional end to the Wicked Lovers series, filled with deceit, action, twists and turns, and a romance that most could only ever hope to achieve. Shayla Black's books are those that I will automatically one click, this is no exception. Don't miss out on getting to know Heath and Jolie, and experience their once in a lifetime romance.

Wow. Shayla really brought the heat with this book. And I don't mean just between Heath and Jolie. I mean the heat, the drama, the danger, the psycho. It was like around every turn there was a murder attempt, a hidden note and gift that hinted at danger lurking right around the corner, right in front of their faces. And when the chips fell, when the psycho was unveiled, I couldn't believe who it was. I couldn't believe the person Shayla made the villain. It was completely unexpected.
NOt only was the villain unexpected, but the relationship between Heath and Jolie and how quickly it heated up was definitely unexpected. She's so headstrong, strong willed, independent, and Heath is.. so alpha. It wasn't two people you would see getting along. I thought they would just butt heads. He's dominant in the bedroom and she's dominant in life, unwilling to submit to him in any way. But his mouth... Good lord Shayla, where do you think up these men with these dirty mouths....
"I intend to learn you first. Where you're sensitive, where you ache, where you're ticklish, where you liked to be touched...and where you don't. I'm going to map every inch of your flesh until I know it as well as my own name. Once I'm satisfied I can arouse you to a frenzy, then....." He dragged his lips up her neck. "Then I'll fuck you."

This whole story was a game of cat and mouse. If it wasn't between Heath and Jolie, it was between the pyscho and Heath and Jolie both. Twists and turns, bullets and presents... something always going on . But it was that something that pulled these two together, that woke them up, made them realize neither of them were really living. Jolie with her determination to never love, and Heath with his grief after the loss he suffered. And when they wake up, when it heats up , when the fireworks start going off, holy moly page melting hotness.
I love Shayla Black's writing style. She has this way of just sucking you into the story and making it so involved that you can't put the book down until all cards are on the table and someone has their happily ever after. Though in this book, we are left with quite a few updates and HEAs from almost all of Shayla's characters... well, except One Mile and Cutter, and Karis.. those poor poor people need a little love.

Heath is so dang yummy...Alpha, sexy, talented hands and mouth..okay enough of that, lol! I love anything British so he already had my attention with his language skills..and his demeanor? I love a guy who is confident and self assured yet also willing to go balls to the walls for a woman he loves. It takes Heath awhile to figure out he's in love, even though his every action tells you Jolie is different from the nameless faces he's been banging since his first wife's death.
In the beginning I really didn't care for Jolie, but by the middle of the book she kind of won me over. She's a ball buster and serious control freak who made my OCD tendencies look normal..but I digress. After a difficult childhood she's shut herself off emotionally, believing it's in her best interest to be focused and grounded in reality. Jolie's living half a life, not even realizing how much she's missing out on until Heath pops up on her radar with enough raw set appeal to set her on her toes and take notice.
One thing I love about Shayla Black's writing is how she can weave raunchy sex scenes into emotionally charged complexities that have me holding my breath in anticipation of a character's heart stopping moment of trust. Jolie and Heath bared themselves more in those sexually charged scenes than in their daily lives. Oddly enough, it makes perfect sense for these two emotionally damaged characters to use a physical means as a way to express themselves.
The suspense twist wasn't too bad. It provided information on Heath's past but seemed a little forced toward the end. I would have been just as happy with a straight romance plot, but the suspense did provide Heath and Jolie with the means to "bare it all" and did keep my curiosity engaged to see what would happen next.
The characters are such a tight knit community of friends who give the shirts on their backs to someone in need and never hesitate to jump head first into trouble to save someone they care for..I'm having a hard time letting them go!
Book 12 in the Wicked Lover series, Holding on Tighter was a reasonably balanced mix of suspense and romance, and draws on bonds of friendship established throughout the course of the series. As the final book, it also brings everybody full circle with a fun yet bittersweet ending that should satisfy long time readers of the series and entice new readers to check the series out!
