"Wolves of the Rising Sun Volume 1: The Riveauxs" by Kenzie Cox was actually three short stories about wolf-shifter brothers Jace, Aiden and Luc finding their fated mates during mating season. Unlike some other reviewers, this reader did happen to read each section to the end; like some of the others, she still was not left wanting more or interested in following the Riveauxs or writer Kenzie Cox even after finishing the tales. The three novellas are based deep in the Louisiana bayou; setting descriptions were so clipped, this reader pulled up an episode of the History Channel's "Swamp People" to better visualize the area alluded to. There was also some spelling, grammar and punctuation issues, enough to irritate but not enough to toss this reader from the world. The plot for each story was simple to the extreme: man meets woman, man wants woman but woman - or man, in some cases - is unsure, man finally wins woman over.

The biggest disappointment was the total lack of character development, leaving the characters little better than one dimensional people mentioned on a page. Physical attributes were disclosed somewhat, allowing this reader to kind of visualize an image that lacked all warmth, personality, and any reason to empathize for or with. Nothing that set one character apart from another, like "extras" in a "B" rated movie. Your eyes skim over them and you know they are there, but they don't truly resonate with you - like mannequins. The males were protective of their mates and growly if another male came near her... okay, that's sort of the norm for not only shifter males, but any book with an alpha or dominant male. None exhibited any personality, at all... and then we readers jump right into a sex scene - several, per story, which by all rights should have been sensual and hot because it was fairly well written, but wasn't - due to the lack of character development. This reader found herself rolling her eyes, huffing out a sigh and wondering when the tale would end. As short of a read as this book is, there is no way it should have taken this reader two days to read it.

Sadly, each tale also seemed to this reader as if much was left unsaid, like perhaps the first chapter or two was missing from the very beginning... you know, the area where readers first learn a bit about some of the main characters and world building begins and the rules or laws of the world are hinted at. Each story felt that way because one more or less built off of the previous one in some way, either by starting at a scene where readers had left off but now with an entirely new point of view, or by a different character thinking back to a scene from the previous story - but now in their point of view. The entire book left this reader bored and completely disinterested in ever reading anything by this writer, again, and this reader truly loves paranormal romances and discovering new-to-her writers. But not this time; this reader cannot recommend this book.

The Riveaux Brothers Jace , Aiden, and Luc from New Orleans with their bar and tour boat rides businesses and ,of course the women who will rule their hearts. As shifters these boys have secrets but so do the girls. Book One is Jace and Skye Michaels story but she has a tattoo that if it is what they fear could mean she is trouble or in trouble. Book Two is Aiden and Rayna Vincent's story. Short has grown up with the boys and most think of her a Luc's girl (they are roommates last 5 years) , till proof she's not. Book Three is about Luc and beautiful Arianna , now both his brothers have their mates and Luc and Arianna plan on two weeks before she returns to her life . There is trouble with the same guys from Skye and Rayna stories, they have returned . Arianna calling on her brother Smoke for help will lead to a few more secrets coming out. Will they ever be safe? I think they can all be very happy.

Running With The Wolves

Check out yet another great series today!
Jace & Skye have wanted each other forever, the timing was just never right, oh and shes human! The big question, is she in bed with the enemy? Has she comprimized their wolves for the hunters?
Rayna is his brothers best friend, so how can Aiden possibly think its ok to pursue her? Rayna has been waiting since she was sixteen for Aiden to notice her. When he finally does, will she be able to handle it when he meets his mate and leaves her? Its a risk she is willing to take for just a few nights in his arms.
Luc & Arianna have been together for a very short time, when the dangers of his life drive her away. When the hunters threaten to blackmail Luc and his brothers, Ari calls in the big guns(her brother Smoke) to erase some history. Was it too little too late? Have the hunters done just what they planned and destroyed the wolves?

The Riveauxs: Wolves of the Rising Sun Volume 1 Kenzie Cox

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

It's Mating Season on the Bayou and for the Riveaux brothers it's the perfect time to find their true mates and get their HEAs.

I love Kenzie Cox's books and she's one of my favourite authors, but when I originally read the first book, Jace, I didn't know the name and I had no idea what to expect although the style felt familiar and I absolutely loved this series of short, action packed, hot and steamy paranormal romances about the Riveaux brothers, who run their Bayou bar 'Wolves of the Rising Sun' along with tours of the Bayou to make ends meet and find their true mates along the way. This series is also part of the multi-author Mating Season Collection of stand alone paranormal romances which all come with their own happily ever afters and no cliff-hangers.

1 - Jace

It's Mating Season on the Bayou and exactly the right time for Jace and Skye to finally be together. Forever. Give me more.

The first book in the terrific Wolves of the Rising Sun series, 'Jace' is a short story which takes place over the course of single day with lots of references about the preceding events. It's a well written paranormal romance with steamy bits, action, a few surprises and a HEA which took me about an hour and a half to read. This was the first book I'd read by Kenzie Cox but certainly not the last. I really enjoyed it. It's written in the first person, not my favourite, but the point of view does change from Skye to Jace for alternating chapters so you get to know what each of them thinks and feels as you read. This was a great start to the new series, and I couldn't wait to read book two.

Photographer Skye has run to her favourite place after splitting with now ex-boyfriend Lannister. The split started five days ago. He was angry that Skye got a tattoo of a wolf, then a couple of days later, he arrived home injured, ordered Skye around and then smashed her head into the wall. Skye packed up her stuff and left Baton Rouge, going to the only place she thought he'd never go. The Bayou, where she felt reasonably safe and the hotter than hell Jace is to be found.

Werewolf Jace Riveaux has wanted Skye since she first walked into his bar on the Bayou three years ago but she was involved with someone, so he let it go. She's been back quite often since then and she's here again, but this time she's single and it's Mating Season. After an afternoon romp, he knows she's his true mate, but then things take a turn for the worse and he's torn about what to do.

I really enjoyed this book and would happily recommend it to anyone.

2 - Aiden

The Mating Moon works it's magic again, this time for true mates Aiden and Rayna.

I love this series about the Riveaux brothers and their bar on the Bayou and I really enjoyed this book about true mates Aiden Riveaux and Rayna Vincent, who have known each other since they were children and never got together, but this year's mating season is different. Everything changes as they finally start what, on the surface, is a strictly no-strings affair. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but this book grabbed me on the first page, sucked me in, and didn't let me go until I got to the end.

Although it's written in the first person, something I usually don't like, it didn't really bother me. I was too engrossed in the story to take much notice and it alternates the point of view between Rayna and Aiden every chapter so you know what each of them is thinking and feeling as the story unfolds. It has everything I expect from a good paranormal romance, including action, bad guys to fight, steamy bits, a HEA and no cliffhangers. I loved this book, really didn't want to put it down and couldn't wait to read the next one.

3 - Luc

A hero who finally works out he wants to keep the heroine, action, steam, lots of unexpected twists and a happily ever after. I love it.

This series just keeps getting better and better, and by the time I got to this one, I was totally hooked on Kenzie Cox's books.

This is the story of werewolf Luc Riveaux, who operates the family's Bayou Tours business, human Arianna Sims, who's a model, and their rocky road to true mated-ness. Luc has hardened his heart against the idea of a mate since his mother left. Arianna has survived her 'family' being involved in the illegal drugs trade and got out as soon as she could. But, without giving away any spoilers, their worlds are about to hit each other, head on, and the consequences are not what you'd expect. This book has unexpected twists and turns aplenty and I really didn't want to put it down.

There is a background theme in the series, which has formed an integral part of each story and comes full circle in this book. It's all on the wheel, so the bad guys get theirs, but not in the way you might think. I love all the main characters, but my absolute hero of the week is Arianna, with her 'brother' Smoke running a close second. A few new characters, mainly cousins, are introduced in this book and threads are put in place for others.

I love this series which is as much action thriller as it is paranormal romance with it's terrific characters and location, hot and steamy true mate encounters and humour, not to mention the wonderful happily ever afters.

Mmm! Sexy wolf shifters make living in a swamp look good!

Yum! Deanna Chase's wolf shifters in the Bayou are some sexy hot men! Get a fan for these novels are chock full of steamy sex scenes. Fortunately, the sex doesn't overwhelm the action and suspense as the Riveaux brothers try to save their land and bayou from hunters. It's mating season so part of the danger comes with the distraction of finding your true mate right in the middle of the fight for your life! There are cliffhangers but having a box set makes it easier to deal with. Deanna Chase has found a place on my fave paranormal authors shelf!

Quick read

This boxset consists of three stories introducing the Wolves of the Rising Sun pack. Jace, Aiden and Luc, are brothers and this boxset tells their stories of how they find their mates and defend their land. The stories are short and contain adult content. Each mate compliments her match and adds another piece to the puzzle of issues the brothers have with the dreaded Hunters. The last story introduces the boys' cousins to segue in to the next volume. The writing isnt bad but didnt suck me in. The stories are written in dual pov. The world building was good and the characters were likeable.

Pleasant.

This volume contains a novella for each of the Riveaux brothers. Shifter wolves who live in the bayou of southeast Louisiana. It tells the story of each brother finding their fated mate. A rather predictable story but pleasant. The volume tells the complete story so you aren't left w/ a dreaded cliffhanger.

Small and insignificant things can cause me to give up on a book...which is kinda sad but just the way I am, some things I can't get past. In this case it was the shirtless bartender from page 1. Maybe it was a little harsh to give up on the whole series but someone serving drinks with everything exposed is just gross to me no matter how hot they are. Just not for me.

Something different

So I gave this a three star rating because it was enjoyable..and different. In the three books we are dealing with the same villain and nothing really develops. It just seems as though the Riveauxs brothers can easily get rid of the villain. I would have liked to see more from the villains side of things.

Good quick read

I thought the stories got better after each book. As I've said before, short stories are the hardest to write, I feel like there should have been a little more details and depth to the story but the overall writing is pretty good. I will more than likely read the next book.

It was okay. A good short read, but some of the stories were better than others. Luc's story kind of annoyed me because the first time he is described he has green eyes. Within the next few pages, he has blue eyes. Small things like that bother me; sorry, not sorry. It was free, so I will not complain too much. I do not see myself picking up the next stories in the series though.

Not what I expected

The genre was a bout inaccurate. I thought I was getting urban fantasy, not urban erotic fantasy. The story line itself was good, but with the amount of sex, I will be moving on to other authors. Over all not bad, just not my thing.

The brothers are just hilarious, thinking they're the big bad wolves. The women in their lives sure show them who's the boss! Throw in a little danger and let the good times roll!q

Cajun werewolves? OK! There was very little plot; no character development; silly stories. Thank goodness for the brevity of the stories and these will work for several challenges.

A quick read

I really rate this book at a 3 1/2. It is not the usual genre I read but it was good if you like short and faster paced stories. My personal preference is longer drawn out stories with a lot of action. this is the first book I've read by this author.
