This sweet little book is perfect for families bringing home a new pet or new baby. It deals with pet rivalry (or sibling rivalry, however you want to look at it), jealousy, insecurities, kindness, and love.
Having a new person/pet in the family can be hard. Learning to exist together happily takes time, effort, and understanding. This book beautifully depicts those feelings.
Plenty of Love to Go Around a great book to read anytime of the year, especially if you’ll be experiencing a new addition to the family soon.

I chose this book because lets face it, kids are selfish. This book hints at sharing, most importantly sharing love. This books has a theme of jealousy that most kids can relate to. I think this would be a great book to introduce a sibling into the family. I feel like this book is relatable even to adults.

This book was kinda weird I get that the author was trying to get a point across that there's plenty of love to go around but when does the neighbors cat have to come into your house?

Plum is perfectly content with his happy family, until, for some reason . . . they decide to adopt a cat.
Things do not go smoothly for this unhappy pooch and his little white shadow, but it all turns out okay in the end.
This is a delight for both cat AND dog lovers, and anyone looking for a quiet nudge for dealing with sibling rivalry. And, I LOVE the illustrations by the author.

A lovely story about sharing and friendship which would be suitable for children from FS to year 4. It could be used in PSHE for many topics including to talk about kindness and children could discuss how they think Plum and Binky feel at various points in the story. They could then think about how they might react in similar situations.

A dog is jealous of the new cat, but he discovers they can still be friends because there is "plenty of love to go around." This would make a great read for a child with a new sibling. Illustrations are average.

Un très beau message! 😌❤️

This is the story of Plum's reaction to the arrival of Binky the cat at the nextdoor neighbour's house. Plum is so used to being The Special One in her family, and to being showered with love, praise, treats and affection that she takes it badly when her thunder is stolen by Binky the cat. Jealous of how Binky is now receiving the adoration that she feels is rightly, solely hers, Plum takes drastic action.
Perfect for young children to learn about sharing, and especially for those about to have a baby brother or sister.

Our family loves Plumdog. We were first introduced to her in her self-titled journal, Plumdog, published with help from her human, Emma Chichester Clark. (This initial book is definitely for teens & adults.) Plum is a feisty, wacky, loving, and extraordinary dog, who has many humorous adventures. Above all, Plum loves her family (Emma and Rupert), and her pooch friends.
Plenty of Love to Go Around seemed like a good title for Valentine's Day this year, and I ordered it not realizing that it's a children's picture book. No matter, we enjoyed it almost as much. In this 30-page tale, Plum's neighbors have a cat, Binky ... who begins spending quite a lot of time at Plum's house. And Plum must learn to cope. This story is not written specifically for Valentine's Day; however, it's a funny tale of love and acceptance.
The illustrations are the real star here, especially depictions of all of Plum's sweet and goofy expressions, and every outdoor scene. The text is appropriate for children aged 5-105, particularly dog lovers. I myself happen to be a cat lover, so I'm in the other camp: my son is the dog lover, but we both adore Plumdog.
Give the children's books in the series a try, if you're in the mood for giggles and grins and goofiness. The picture books are large and square, suitable for classroom read-alouds, or rocking chair snuggles at home. Dog lovers ages 14+ will enjoy the original Plumdog, mentioned above. All are recommended!

This is a good one to use for addressing sibling rivalry.

Clark, Emma Chichester. Plenty of Love to Go Around, PICTURE BOOK. Nancy Paulsen Books, 2016. $17.99.
Plum the dog has a loving family and wonderful neighbor friends who adore him. He is their special one. One day the neighbors get a cat too. They also adore the cat, who really likes Plum, and Plum feels very annoyed. How can he be nice to the cat when he’s so worried he’s not the special one anymore? Plum finally realizes that there is enough love to go around and he and the cat can both be special.
I didn’t love this. The pictures are pretty nice and well-detailed. The story felt a bit long and never had a particular moment that really just grabbed me.

A dog named Plum gets all the love he can from his owners and his young neighbors who live next door. He is their "special one." The neighbors bring home a surprise one day--a cat named Binky. Plum does not like Binky as he isn't supposed to like cats since he's a dog. Binky follows him around everywhere! Binky even saves him at one point, but Plum still didn't want to be friends. It's not until Plum makes a negative action against Binky and is caught that he realizes that he should give the cat a chance. He then realizes that there's enough love in the world to give to everyone.
Okay for preschool storytimes.

My mom uncharacteristically bought Plumdog for herself last year, which was my introduction to this super sweet pup. This picture book takeoff was adorable; it tackles the age old battle of dog vs. cat (or sibling rivalry!) with aplomb. (You know I wanted to write aplum.) Animal lovers and kids of all ages will enjoy this one, especially with its heartwarming ending. My friend whose child gets the Imagination Library books lent this to me and says that her kids have asked for it to be read over and over, so it sounds like it's a great read aloud, too.

My daughter received this book free from the imagination library.
I want to start off by saying that this book made almost no sense to me. It jumped around a lot. Like going from the kids showing the dog the cat to the dog park on the next page... I personally wasn't impressed this book. It does try to teach kids about friendship and how it can come from anywhere but it doesn't really get that point across since the dog essentially bullies the cat by locking him outside... As other reviewers stated, why would the cat be coming to your house anyways and why was it allowed at the DOG park to start with, let alone without its owners? My daughter liked the book but she quickly passed it on for another book and that just shows me that she wasn't really interested in it, more the idea that she got a new book.

Plum is secure in her neighborhood.
She loves her people and the neighbors. Two houses to love her.
Then Binky, the cat, moves in next door. It would seem that Binky is one talented animal.
Plum is not feeling so secure. Could she keep the cat outside? Perhaps block that cat door -- by accident, of course?
It's a good time for Plum to learn that the human heart has room to grow. Plenty of space to love a new cat and still love Plum just as much.
Wise counsel for kids who may worry that a new situation will result in less love to go around.
Thanks to Plum for the life lesson and to Emma Chichester Clark for the beautiful illustrations.

Plum loves her family and friends, but one day that love is tested when the neighbor children show her their new cat. The cat obviously loves Plum and wants to be just like her. However, Plum is insecure and afraid everyone will love the cat more than her. (Loved the part when she blocked the cat door so the cat couldn't come inside!) Another beautifully illustrated book to teach us about friendship and how our hearts can grow, never running out of love. It would be a wonderful book to read to a child who is soon to have a sibling. The message is perfect for us all!

For 2018 I decided that I wanted to read one new-to-me children's book per month.
This was a super cute story about a dog, cat, and the jealousy that comes with the addition of a new pet. The main character, Plum the dog, is based on the author's real pet. The story was cute and the illustrations are just as adorable. I think the morals of this story would be a good one for kids who are expecting new family members. Highly recommend to cat and dog lovers especially.

Emma Chichester Clark's adorable pet dog Plum is a bit out of sorts when the neighbor's cat steals the show. Plum is sad and worried as his favorite people now seem to be more taken with Binky. I think we have all had times when we feel overshadowed by someone else, like Plum. It's a nice story to share with kids so they can see how normal that feeling of jealousy is.

A great story told through pets that would relate to getting a new sibling. The family gets a new pet, a cat, and the dog is afraid his family won't love him as much anymore. By the end of the book, he finds out that there is plenty of love to go around. This would make a great one-on-one story for an older sibling who feels left out.

A sweet book about Plum the dog whose world is suddenly turned upside down when a cat moves in next door and starts getting all the attention. I love how it handles the big emotions of jealousy and feelings of resentment in a way that children can relate to and understand. And it reaffirms that there are enough love and room for everyone!

Chichester's patented warmth, delightful characters, and beloved dog Plum once again take center stage. Plummie's perfect world of being the favorite is threatened by her neighbor friends' new cat - who will NOT leave her alone. What's a dog to do when all that matters is being loved the best?
The author's marvelous illustrations and knowing text are winners all over again.

An anthropomorphic tale of sibling rivalry, substituting a dog for the older sibling and a cat for the new baby, lapses too often into hackneyed expressions of this common theme; winsome illustrations earn the third star.

Bringing in new family pets can be an interesting experience for everyone involved - especially the other animals as they try to figure out where everyone fits. Eventually, everyone learns that there's more than one 'special one' in the group, and there is plenty of everything to go around.

Plummie the dog's family has just gotten a new cat. Is their enough love for both of them? Cute. Right toddler or preschool and up. Great one on one read.
