Carla’s been given her dream, to leave her job as sheriff and attend cosmetology school. The gift is so overwhelming that she struggles with feeling unworthy, especially since she still feels guilty for becoming a mom as a teenager. When Wayne Peterson reenters her and their son Noah’s life, Carla creates some tangles between her and her steadfast boyfriend, the flannel-wearing, truck driver Will Marshall. Can Carla release her past and create a future full of highlights, or, will she burn her options worse than a bad perm?

Since I’d read the first book of this series, Entangled felt like a warm welcome from a favorite small town. I loved Speculator Falls in Entrusted¸ and it hasn’t lost any of its charm. This story takes the reader to the larger town of Gloversville, where Carla attends cosmetology school. There we are introduced to several more characters, and I enjoyed getting to know them through their interactions with our reluctant heroine. Noah’s dad, Wayne, brings some special spice to the mix with his pursuit of Carla and her resulting confusion. Author Julie Arduini’s characters are realistic, imperfect people, and their trials and triumphs tug at the heartstrings. I thoroughly enjoyed Entangled, and for that reason, I award it five stars. I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced and I couldn't put it down! I spent the day with Carla and a quote from her couldn't be more wrong... "Right. The teen mom who leaves the sheriff’s office to cut hair, all while waffling between two men. There’s a book people will rush to read." Well I did!
Though Carla has everything to be grateful for in her life, she cannot get over the fact that she became a teen mom, living with the guilt and the feeling of unworthiness. These feelings quell her joy at everything she does in her life and even poison her love life… I did not understand why, after all these years, Carla still would not accept God’s grace in full. It was as if she lived life half saved and half nailed on the cross. She not only took her great boyfriend for granted, she did not even try to make him part of her and her son’s life. If she had not known God, I would have understood the problems, but having met Him after becoming pregnant, it did not make sense. I get that some lessons take longer to be learned, but receiving all she got, she was really callous toward some of her blessings. Thankfully God reached her and helped her finally find the right outlook on life. While I could not relate to Carla, the story was interesting and could definitely help understand anyone who has issues overcoming their pasts that no matter their previous errors, they are worthy and loved by God.
Surrendering can be so hard especially when we hang on to the baggage and lies that we are undeserving. It is hard to let go of the past when it comes back to stare you in the face. Some of the old feelings are jumbled up that haven't let go of. We keep turning it over to God, but it takes a while to let it all go bit by bit forgiving ourselves for our past mistakes realizing they don't define our future. We can forgive ourselves and accept forgiveness letting go of the past, looking to the future and all that it holds . Accepting the love we always had from God and the new love that is before us, the new life and an amazing future. Enjoy this wonderful story of hope, surrender, forgiveness and love with wonderful characters set in a quiet little town by an outstanding author, Julie Arduini.
Favorite sheriff to hair stylist, with beauty school in two days. For now she wanted to run, to feel free. Will her boyfriend of a year, tries to understand her jogging, or is she running from something. Thinking too much, guilt over getting the money and how everything is paid for. To have been a young mother, and now leaving Noah at home during the week. Old memories and old boyfriends are playing havoc with her, which is this story. How will she come out, with all the tangles she manages to happen. Will it be an old love or the new one. Good enjoyable story of getting her dreams.
I have to admit that I’m a sucker for stories that take place in the Adirondacks of New York. Julie Arduini has captured the charm of that setting with the second book in her Surrendering Time series, Entangled.
As Carla embarks on an adventure leading to a whole new career, she finds herself bogged down with the guilt of poor choices from her past that can threaten the success and happiness of her future. Caught between romantic feelings for her current boyfriend, Will, and her former high school sweetheart, Wayne, she seeks to follow the best path for her and her son, Noah.
The author draws the reader into her story with realistic characters and situations. They parallel the struggles many women face as they strive to confront past mistakes. Arduini delivers a clean romance that carries a strong Christian message without preachiness.
If you have ever been curious about cosmetology training, this book is a great resource. The author did an excellent job of researching her character’s chosen profession.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who faces surrender issues from the past, and those who enjoy a sweet but sometimes stormy romance in a small town setting.
Julie Arduini’s book, Entangled, is book 2 in the Surrendering Time Series. I really loved this book. Julie is great at developing her characters, which is always a great way to hook the reader into the story. The main character, Carla, is given the chance to follow her dream of going to cosmetology school. Just when her life seems to be on course, a distraction appears in the form of her son’s father, who tries to pursue her. Carla becomes confused and distances herself from her current boyfriend, Will.
I love how the characters are so real, flawed, believable and have emotions like we do in real life. Congratulations to the author on a great book! I was given a copy of the book by the author in exchange for my honest review.
