The fourth in the "Dying Days" series... "Level up with Rosamilia's take on smarter, scarier zombies! They don't sleep and neither will you. Read this now!" ~ Robert Chazz Chute, author of This Plague of Days "Armand Rosamilia has masterly crafted a unique zombie book with many moving parts. Dying Days 4 should be on every zombie fanatics TBR list" ~ Mark Tufo, author of the Zombie Fallout series "With Dying Days 4, Armand Rosamilia continues to carve his own glorious path through the zombie apocalypse. His unique blend of sex and violence, well-rendered melancholy and tough as nails, pedal to the metal can do attitude makes for a story that gets it all just right. Rosamilia is a bright light for a dark country, and one of a handful of writers I know I can turn to when I want to have the crap scared out of me. He's that good" ~ Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Dead City and Plague of the Undead

Dying Days 4 is the fourth book of the Dying Days series written by Armand Rosamilia. In some ways, it is difficult to predict what you will read from one book to the next, which seems like a good thing, but not always. One of the things that makes zombie apocalypse narratives attractive are the specific tropes that characterize the sub-genre. There will be survivors that must contend not only with the unstoppable force of zombies, but also with contending groups of survivors that want your stuff.
Here, Rosamilia gives you that, but also more that I'm not sure what to feel about it. There are smart zombies along with the dead heads, and the smart zombies look down on the dead heads, because they haven't yet evolved. I'm not sure whether Rosamilia is writing himself into a corner but to be honest I feel terrified because I begin to sense human extinction as a very real end.
Because this book is a continuation of a series, I don't think you can just read this as a standalone. To me it seems clear that Rosamilia has a specific end in mind that I am not yet privy to, but I have the entire series of books so, I will eventually read through. Again, the lack of predictability is a double-edged sword.
The zombies are now talking, arming themselves, setting up ambushes, healing and the obvious, still eating people. The stilt house complex has now fallen and Darlene, who is heavily pregnant, John and Murph are on the run, trying to survive. What they don't know, is there are many people and zombies on their tail as they all want the baby for different reasons. We also meet Mark, who was once a zombie who has morphed into...dare I say..."a vampire like creature". I'm loving this series and now diving into book 5.
I have loved this series from the first book. This one I listened to in Audible. I’ve read all of the books in between as well. Darlene is my kinda zombie killer. Pregnant and still kicking ass and taking numbers. Can’t wait to see what happens with this series. Way to hang us Armand!
Armand Rosamilia has written one hell of a series. I lost sleep last night ( it is now 5:00am) just to read this one. I haven't done that in a long time. NIW all I can patiently wait to start the next book in the series.
This is a great addition to this book series. The Zombies are changing and developing a level of consciousness. The focus is still focuses on the survivors struggle to survive. Great book. Fast paced and well written. Looking forward to see how this new direction develops.
Dying Days 4 has lofty expectations from the moment you open the cover. The zombies have evolved. Some have reached a sort of enlightenment. The Dying Days series follows a new path in this offering.
Armand Rosamilia's signature zombie series continues to deliver that something slightly different in zombie fiction. This story draws heavily on its living characters. The evolved zombies figure prominently in the story as well. The old, shambling, horny zombies are mentioned in passing but have become forgettable with the rise of their evolved counterparts.
The continued success of the series hinges on how well the new zombie threat is presented. This serms to take a more supernatural/horror theme as opposed to something more apocalyptic or survivalist. It's an adjustment in tone but stuck works well in this readers opinion.
In short, the Dying Days series remains a success through book 4. If you have enjoyed the series this far there odd no reason no to sally forth. The evolution of the monsters keeps it fresh and interesting. The non-chalant worrying style of the author is still solid. The cliffhanger at the end will send you right to the store for Dying Days 5.
Just like the previous books in the series this was a quick paced read with non-stop, page turning intensity. This book felt even shorter than the others (probably because I just finished "The Kingkiller Chronicles" which are epic in length) and ended in the midst of chaos with no real resolution. It's frustrating that I have to wait, but at lease Armand is no GRR Martin and I can expect the sequel sometime next year. **Spoilers ahead** One aspect I would like to mention is the evolution of the zombies. It appears they are evolving into vampires. There's a scene where the Lich King shows himself and it's noted that he has long canines and no longer has a hunger for flesh, only a thirst for blood. At first, I thought this was straight up cheese, but then I remembered I was reading the "dying days" series where crazy *expletive* like this happens. It's definitely an interesting twist and after reflection, I am now excited and can't wait to see more of these zombie turned vamps that don't glitter. Overall, an easy and exciting read that I recommend to any horror/zombie fan.
I received this book free for an honest review. Well here it is--IT'S MIND BLOWING! I would give him a standing ovation but I can't! I must bow before the master of the best zombie series. I did not expect what I read. I honestly thought it would be your normal zombie books. NO! He has such a vivid and keen Imagination that it is unreal. There are so many cliff hangers in the book that have you on edge. The characters have real depth behind them. The descriptions of the settings are so evocative. There is drama, death, comedy and down right brand new ways to think about zombies. Now I will say this, This book is not for kids under 18, and I say that because of it being so real with the language and the graphic ways of death. But as far as I am concerned I now have a new favorite author. Thank you for being so imagitive. And I hope and pray that someone picks this up as a movie!
Zombie babies..Intelligent rapid healing zombies, and a Lich King...there is a lot going on here...I think this one was one of my faves of the series and I hope more come to Audible....the writing and story gets better as we go on and I just really know that Darlene has a mean cup of revenge up her sleeve!!! Still dont super care for this narrator..but this really was an excellent addition to the series!!!
