3-star simply because the edition is for very young children and the witch is quite scary..... Otherwise, it would be a 5-star book

This board book is beautifully executed with engaging push, pull, slide tabs that reveal additional action and images. The size is a seven inch square just right for young hands. Colors are bright. Illustrations detailed and lively. The story is told in a sort of rhyme and is a retelling of an old fairy tale.

Being an old fairy tale, it begins with a harshness that I find unsuitable for the youth for which this board book is intended. Hence, particular care should be exercised in reading it to young children. My reasoning?
A baby named Rapunzel, with hair so fair and bright, Was taken by a wicked witch, one dark and stormy night. (pictured are the parents looking on as the witch snatches the baby from the crib).
Now I realize that fairy tales involve witches, bad things happening, and happy-ever-after. But I am troubled (hmmmm... a troubled tale troubles me) that a young child be worried about their own safety and the ability of their parents to protect and care for him or her.

Otherwise, an adorable book and I truly love the push, pull, slide features.

I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review of my personal opinions. I was not compensated.

SERIES REVIEW: These books are brilliant. They are fun and interactive and take the classics we loved as kids and made them accessible for new and young readers. They have found a way to simplify the stories and condensed them to four pages, with simple text and bright, vibrant and beautiful illustrations with tabs that the readers push, pull and slide. I know that every child is going to adore these fun stories brought to life through movement and engagement. I think these are a must for every home library and I assure you that your new and young reader will spend endless hours pushing, pulling and sliding their way to becoming a life long reader! I highly recommend these books to all!

This is a super cute book. The pull outs, slides and items to push all work and last to tell the story. There is a cute mouse to find on each page. A great introduction to the tale that won’t break easily with little ones operating the pages.

Rapunzel (First Stories). BOARD BOOK. Silver Dolphin Books, 2016. $9. 978-1626869004

Help Rapunzel let down her long, golden hair in order to welcome the prince. These adorable books are so adorable and clever. Besides being very clever, they are also sturdy enough for repeated abuse. The rhyming text on each page is fun to read aloud.

Rapunzel is probably a lesser-known story from the list of fairy tales, but gained popularity again when Disney remade it into a movie titled, "Tangled". This is a much more simplified version telling Rapunzel's story of being taken from her parents and forced to live in a tower while her hair grew long. When the prince heard her singing, he came to rescue her. Through rhyming scheme, cartoon illustrations and interactive pages, toddlers and young children will find a new fairy tale to love.

The pages of this book offer a hidden mouse to find. This story is a little darker than the other fairy tales as a baby is taken by a witch and then the witch cuts Rapunzel's hair to make the prince fall. But, reminding the child that it is all make-believe will help them understand the silliness of it. With a slider at the end to bring Rapunzel and the Prince together, your child will get to be a part of the happy ending.

These high-quality board books will be a perfect addition to your home library. The interactive features and fully illustrated pages will keep toddlers busy in the car or during appointments.
