59 b/w illustrations! Swooping down from the air, risking all to inflict enormous damage on the this is the daring of combat fliers. 15 true stories, ranging from WWI zeppelin adventures to the most up-to-date Tornado spyplanes, trace the changes in military aviation over eight decades. They include such triumphant campaigns as the Battle of Britain, reconnaissance over Normandy, and Desert Storm, as well as some disastrously planned actions--among them, the Japanese in the Marianas and the Luftwaffe's last-ditch attempt to defeat the Allies. Alfred Price again shows how to put together vignettes uillustrating the range and complexity of air warfare. Rather than let After Action Reports (AARs) "Speak for themselves," Price sets out the objective of the air forces involved, the challenges to be overcome, and the tactics and techinques consequently employed. The AARs are frequently inserted in the text, to show how the pilots and aircrews experienced the combat and add color, but not to carry the burden of explaining why the combat occured or was or was not successful.
Not one of Alfred Prices best. An interesting read though covering various air warfare engagements from World War UK to the Iraqi conflict of 1991. Interesting to see how electronic devices in air combat have developed over the years.
I was especially interested in the description of a night air raid over Germany. I had not realised how complex the planning was and how many measures were taken to mislead the German air defences.

An okay and quite readable compilation of true stories of combat fliers since aviation became a part of warfare. An interesting read that I found pleasant to have sitting there ready to pick up whenever I had a bit of spare time to read something.
Great series of stories. Especially enjoyed those reference WWII. The linkages from then to now was interesting. Falklands initial airstrip was impressive.
This book details many events and equipment which were never before reported on in detail, the detailed information is beyond any previous war books I have read.
