"You're my saving grace, Jonah. My angel."
"Raven is nothing like the girls I'm used to. She's not arrogant or overly aggressive. With her, you get what you see. It's refreshing. I miss her when she's not around. I never miss women. Hell, I go months without seeing my mom and sister. Never bothers me. Raven's been away for twenty-four hours, and I'm going nuts, as if something valuable were missing."
"You're a part of me now. I'd do anything for you; I'll fight for your life as I'd fight for my own."
"Fighting gave me my breath, but you brought me back to life."
"Baby, I promise you that you'll never want for physical contact again. I'll always hold you when you're scared" He softly kisses my jaw. "Comfort you when you're sad." His lips brush against my cheeks. "Take care of you when you're sick." Tilting my head back, he kisses my forehead. He bends down and his hazel eyes narrow into mine. "I'll make it my life's mission to make up for every second you were neglected."
"This whole time I thought I was living. But the day I met you, the lights came on. You fill me with things I thought I'd never feel again. You're my angel, baby."
“To think that I could experience this all-consuming lust, as well as the soul-shackling love that I would die to keep, is life changing. This tiny girl who works on cars, laughs at stupid jokes, and blushes at the slightest flirtation is mine. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for her. I would spend the rest of my life making her happy if she’d let me. So this is love. My life will never be the same.”-Jonah
so to sum it up like this:
Raven - 1 star
Jonah - 4 stars
Blake - 5 stars
The story - 2.5 stars
“You’re like that single wild flower that grows from the crack in the pavement: miraculous growth with no water source or fertile soil. A person walking by would step around that flower to avoid crushing it. It’s not like the field of wild flowers you tromp through carelessly, crushing them under your feet, knowing that the next day will bring a hundred more.”
Jonah pulls up to Raven's garage expecting to find a mechanic to help him restore his '61 Impala. He sees Raven "Ray" walk out and he's a goner. The instant attraction is there for both of them and they are tongue-tied and gobsmacked. Jonah invites her to do the work at his house and she agrees. Jonah finds himself thinking and doing things with Raven that are unprecedented.
Inviting her to his house? Check.
Thinking about her all the time? Check.
Fantasizing about her….Check, Check.
The two of them spend lots of time together working on his car and it's so comfortable and natural right off the bat.
The secondary characters are pretty great as well. Jonah's fighter friend Blake is hilarious. He's a unashamed horndog and had me cracking up. "If I flip a coin, what are the chances I'll get head?"…somehow he manages to be funny and hot and not pervy. He's actually a sweetheart underneath all that and becomes just as protective of Raven as Jonas. There's one part between Jonas and his mom that killed me…
“Mom, I want to tell you I met someone. It’s the mechanic who’s helping me with my car. Things are getting serious between us, and I thought you should know.” Silence. “Mom?” I check to make sure our call didn’t get dropped. Nope, still connected. “Mom, you still there?” She clears her throat. “Yes, Joey, I’m here.” Why is she acting so weird? I know I’ve never had a serious girlfriend before, but I thought she would be off the wall about my finally settling down. “What’s wrong? I thought you’d be excited about my being in a serious relationship.” “Oh, honey, I’m very happy for you. It’s just . . . I guess I thought . . . Well, it’s just a shock, that’s all. I always thought you liked girls.” My eyes bug out of my head and I choke. I cough to clear my voice. “What? Of course, I like girls. Wait, Mom, Raven is a girl! Shit, you thought I was telling you I was dating a guy? Fuck me.”
Jonas and Raven connect pretty quickly but they have one huge, massive problem hovering over their heads. Her 21st birthday. Once they become aware of her father's plans for her, Jonah makes a deal with the devil for her freedom. Throw the championship fight and he won't force her into working for him. But things don't exactly go as planned.
These two are amazing together, the sex between them is off the charts and I was totally in love with their story from page one to end.
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo….
