Jonah
Jonah "The Assassin" Slade is a MMA fighter. He is currently undefeated and known for being a "Ladies Man"

'I do not hit the same honey pot twice.'

Yup, he has a rep and it's not just for kicking ass in the octagon. *wink, wink*
Jonah is looking to fix up his '61 Chevy, Impala and Guy refers "Ray" aka Raven for the job. When they meet she's instantly starstruck and slowly gathers herself. She takes the job and goes fan-girl crazy, on the inside of course!

'I’m going to be fixing up a car with Jonah “The Assassin” Slade. What have I gotten myself into?' ~Raven

As you can imagine Jonah is taken aback not only because Ray turns out to not be male but a female. But A BEAUTIFUL female. It's her beauty, a beauty that drys out his mouth... Raising up a thirst for her in a way he realizes can only be quenched by tasting what she has to offer.

Friendship takes root fast between these two as does a relationship. Making the decision to leave the bachelor style life behind was not a hard choice for Jonah. His feelings for Raven mad that one of the easiest choices he ever had to make.

'So this is love. My life will never be the same.' ~Jonah

Things get serious and Raven knows she must tell him the truth about who she is. Scared...she is scared he'll want nothing to do with her once he knows her parentage. What she does not know is that he has already made up his mine about her.

"I want you. And that includes everything that makes you who you are.”

'But he was no savior. He was my undertaker.' ~Milena

*Whispers* Daddy... Or Predator
Love life and automobiles; that was Raven's life until her phone rings and changes everything. Her father wants to meet with her and because of the little girl inside who holds out on hope she accepts the invitation.

When daddy puts on his pimp hat and drops the bomb that Raven will be his property on her 21st birthday she's utterly devastated. That little slice of hope is now crushed into tiny pieces of sorrow.

'The life I’d built for myself, friends, Jonah, all of it was erased in less than an hour. I’m chained to the ugliness, caged in a nightmare with no chance of escape.' ~Raven

And when she tells Jonah he goes APE SHIT -I AM THE KING OF THE JUNGLE- C R A Z Y.

Can their love survive this? *Grins slowly* You have to read to find out!

Favorites

Fave Lines and/or thoughts unsaid

'Everything from my thoughts to my dick gravitates in her direction.' ~Jonah

'I’ve known her for a week, and I’m spilling my guts about my dad like a pigtailed girl at a sleepover.' ~Jonah

Lines that made me SWOON

'I would give up anything for her, including my life’s dream. She’s my dream now.' ~Jonah

“You’re part of me now. I’d do anything for you. I’ll fight for your life as I’d fight for my own.” ~Jonah

“I’ll make it my life’s mission to make up for every second you were neglected.” ~Jonah

Lines that made me laugh out loud

“That’s it!” Locking her wide eyes with mine, she throws her hands in the air. “I’m done. I’m switching teams. I despise men and from now on will only date women.”

“Raven, a little later we can play Titanic,” he calls over his shoulder. “I’ll yell ice burg and you can go down.” ~Blake

My Thoughts
Did I enjoy this book? HELL TO THE YES!! I loved it actually.
So why 3 stars? I really really really wanted to give this book that 4th star but I couldn't. And here is why. The whole insta-love storyline. Ummm yeah, I just can't work with that. It's cool for people who like that, I just ain't one of them. Then he barely knew her but let her move in pretty quickly. I wasn't buying that one either.

So, besides those two things this book ROCKED for me. It was filled with some very sexy-give-it-to-me-baby scenes and I'm not referring to just Jonah. Raven's sex appeal burnt up the pages just as much as Jonah's. Yup I was turned on by a chick. What the hell is going on? Has this happened to anyone else while reading? Maybe not this book but another? I need to know I'm not alone.

My Ratings

This book is beautiful and the dual pov is just a wonderful treat.
The Author, Jamie Salsbury has written this book is such a compelling way, it draws you in and captures your mind.

I finished this book in 1 sitting and the whole day after that, only Raven and Jonah's story was playing in my head.
Its very unique the story line, the plot might be a little read before but still the way it is portrayed.. Its beautiful, just like the magnificent cover of this novel.

All the characters had such a strong value in this book. I loved them all..

Jonah Slade, 'The Assassin'
He is wonderful, I wanted to hump him and cuddle him and then eat him up.. Such a strong powerful character.. Feral and headstrong, a fighter, a lover and an amazing person.

Raven Morretti, Ray..
Beautiful innocent naive girl, She possesses him, they compel each other and they fall madly in love..

“You’re like that single wild flower that grows from the crack in the pavement: miraculous growth with no water source or fertile soil. A person walking by would step around that flower to avoid crushing it. It’s not like the field of wild flowers you tromp through carelessly, crushing them under your feet, knowing that the next day will bring a hundred more.”

The sex scenes were fire burning hot.. like you need to shower after them because they were more than sexy and sizzling, It was compelling, sensual, passionate and oozing chemistry

5 Fighting Stars!!!!!

Jonah is a bad ass MMA fighter in Vegas. Ever since his father died when he was twelve, he centered his world around fighting. He is on his way to be champion. He hangs out with his friends, trains, fights... he doesn’t do relationships.
Ah hell, I don’t even know her name.
Oh well. Won’t be the first time I bang a nameless face.

Yeah- we get that from the very beginning, but he’s honest about it.

 photo 761303d0-4c7d-4530-bc2a-2f8efb49ddcf_zpsdd4287f8.jpg

Raven Morretti lives a quite life. She is a mechanic in a garage, she has one close friend she is a bit shy and inexperienced. She comes from a crazy background. Her mother is a prostitute and her father is a famous pimp/criminal in Vegas. She is estranged from the both of them. She tries to make the best of her life.

 photo 68e8f7c1-de15-4b12-86b1-6e05295af6ca_zpse1d29277.jpg

Jonah needs a mechanic to help him fix up one of his classic cars, and that is how he and Raven meet. Jonah doesn’t understand the feelings he has for Raven. He never feels this way about women. He likes her, sees her more than just a conquest. He wants to take care of her. Protect her.

There is no working this girl out of my system.

They start spending more time together and are both falling for one another.

“I want you. And that includes everything that makes you who you are.”

As things start to get more serious, Jonah is afraid of screwing things up. He knows he has a reputation, and Raven is so innocent. Love the advice his friend Owen gives...

“What if I... I don’t know, screw things up?”
Owen’s eyebrows hit his hairline. “Dude, if practice makes perfect, you should have your PhD in sex. Pretty sure you won’t screw it up.”

When they do get together, sparks fly. These two have chemistry. Heat. Passion.

So this is love. My life will never be the same.

 photo bde7ebdb-fa70-470d-87ad-b3cf742b50e9_zps67e757a9.jpg

Jonah and Raven have a beautiful relationship- I love them together. But then, her father comes into the picture and all hell breaks lose. They have to fight to stay together. Jonah has to figure out if he will be able to lose something big to win an even bigger prize than the title- Raven.

 photo afdb0fb2-0627-4486-aee5-c23adc9c01e8_zps50706d19.jpg

Oh my wow! I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this book! Jonah- this guy was as close to Travis Maddox as I have found, and I love me some Travis! Couldn’t get enough of Jonah. He was loving, kind, protective, and of course tattooed and sexy. Raven and Jonah didn’t have a lot of drama or angst between them which was great... just a lot of stuff from the outside. And I absolutely LOVED Blake! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series about him- he had so many great lines! What a funny and loyal guy! If you haven’t read this book- you need to!!!
This one is a must read!!!

With such a gorgeous sensual cover, the irresistible temptation of an MMA bad boy; the idea that the heroine might be a strong -take- no- bullshit- character by suggesting her job as a mechanic and the fact that she hales from the Vegas underworld. I was immediately seduced into downloading a sample.

The writing…oh joy!

 photo 2pac_facepalm_gif.gif

It’s written in the first person present tense and it’s horrible.
I hate this format, it screams amateur to me. This is where I should have left it alone and just walked away.
That being said I have endured this style in the past and if it is done subtly, with elegance and is pivotal to the telling, I can cope. So against my better judgement I cave and click buy as I am still seduced by the premise of this story.

Stupid, stupid me!
 photo gibbsheadslap_zps630a6258.gif

The over use of I and my has the same result as nails on a chalk board, but I grind my teeth and persevere with the plot and what I think will be a strong feisty heroine and a mean sexy bad-boy in need of a hammer wielding mechanic to break through his defences.

How wrong could I have been? What follows is a whole lot of insta; insta-attraction, insta-lust, insta-love and insta-bility. There is no relationship development, just a whole lot of possessive animalistic growling from Jonah and blushing from Raven. Ridiculous, especially when this is supposed to be for a mature paying audience. I expect more than that I’m afraid.

It is quickly established that Raven is not the kick-ass-strong-willed heroine I had assumed. She is a twenty year old girl (not a woman!)Who behaves like a 12 year old, she sobs and cry’s over everything!

Seriously …EVERYTHING!

 photo tumblr_lv1s5cvcUM1qcqhq7.gif

It is such a constant emotion for her that it garners nothing but my irritation. She blushes like a bloody teenager over one look from Jonah and giggles over the most ridiculous jokes. Her character in relation to her upbringing is just totally implausible to me.

Jonah is supposed to be this hard as ice bachelor who never sleeps with the same woman twice. So having slept with scores of woman I do not expect this experienced man to behave like a teenager at the sight of a lacy bra! Sure, he’s met the woman of his dreams but his insta-capitulation is incredulous. He growls as much as Raven sobs which only leaves me feeling...well, incredulous (again!).

 photo woman_wtf_gif_zps69572115.gif

The plot is predictable and its effortless staying steps ahead of these characters and the evolving scheme. Such a pity our MC’s are too tragic to see it.

This has no angst but lots of drama of which I couldn't really give a toss about, especially when

This has some sweet moments between Raven and Jonah and her upbringing is a harsh one. The authors attempt at creating an empathy with Raven is justifiable, but it does not make up for her other shortcomings.

I predict this will be a hit with the ‘Indie’ readers who don’t mind this structure and are able to suspend disbelief, overlook some editing issues, and prefer reading just for the eye candy that is Jonah and Raven.

Me? I am not impressed.

4 FIGHTING and FLYING Stars

Nothing, not even destiny, could keep me from you.

What does a mechanic...

and a fighter have in common?

description

EVERYTHING!

description

Fighting for Flight is a sweet and sexy story. An enjoying read that will make your heart clench and sigh with content. Beautiful. And HAWT!

Raven Moretti is the victim of her parents lives (I'll certainly come back to that). Raised feeling alone, unloved and unwanted. She lives caged, yearning for freedom, for love, for flight.

description

A diamond in the rough. A wild flower struggling to survive.

Her path collides with Jonah The Assassin Slade.

description

A fighter on the verge of becoming the champion, training for the match of his life.

description

Living unaware, wasting away, until the day he met his saving grace. Raven.

“This whole time I thought I was living. But the day I met you, the lights came on. You fill me with things I thought I’d never feel again.”

To have a life with her, he must sacrifice his dreams, because when a nightmare returns to haunt Raven, he has to decide between the fight and the prize.

And the prize holds his heart and his happiness in her hands.

description

An amazing cast of secondary characters adds spice, depth and feelings in the story.

Blake, Jonah's best friend and co-fighter, is the most hilarious, awesome and adorable character!

“Dude, if practice makes perfect, you should have your PhD in sex.

He is the one to have your back. In training, strip joint, barbeques and rescues!

Slightly spoilerish mini-rant:
Speaking of characters I can't NOT comment on Raven's parents. The bane of her existence in the worst possible way and for different reasons. A prostitute and her diabolical pimp.

Milena, her mother, does have redeeming qualities and I get that she was scared and abused but woman...

description

What were you doing for 21 freaking years? What kind of idiot decision was that... *bangs head against the wall*

and then there is:

"the DomiDick shit we have to worry about."

I loathe Dominic Moretti, the asshole from hell. I refuse to even use the word father around him...
And honestly Dominic:

Mini-rant ended

This book is definitely worth reading. And Jamie Salsbury earned a spot in my authors-to-watch-out-for list. My only complaint the use of present tense. I'm not a fan of this technique; it makes a book feel rushed to me, but thank God the story was actually good enough to let that quirk of mine slide.

Blake, you crazy-ass, man-slut I can't wait for your story!!!

5 FREAKING FANTASTIC STARS--LOVED IT!!! ♥♥♥♥♥

JONAH.....

[image error]

Wow!!! This book was so f'king awesome.. it was full of chemistry and steam, and love, and suspense, funny secondary charsters, bad men, bitchy ho's.. Jamie Salsbury packed a whole lot of awesome into this book..

I love MMA so I was hot for Jonah from the start ( plus as you can see MY Jonah above.. he is totally worthy.. Jonah is strong and on his way to becoming the Heavyweight champ.. He can have any girl he wants and generally does..

Until he see's Raven

She's stunning and she's a mechanice.. a very good mechanic that specializes in restoring older cars.. He meets her and he has to have her at his house, in hs garage, fixing up his car..

It was instant chemistry for these two! The sparks were so freaking hot and it was pretty much love at first sight for both of them..

Their hot sexy love was not without some problems though.. her sperm donor (father) is a real dickhead and he wants Raven to whore for him.. he's a pimp. He sucks. big time.

Jonah will do whatever it takes to protect her though.. the last 20% of this book I was freaking out wondering what was going to happen.. I wasn't disappointed..

What I loved most about this book was there was no angsty drama. Now, I love angst sometimes.. but sometimes I just want a good story where they know they want each other and there are no games. No games in this one.. LOVED THAT. The only drama is with her father and him being such an evil dick. And he really is an asshole.

Can't wait for the next book in this series! I'm a fan of Jamie Salsbury for sure ( she had to be good, she's got my name..right?)

Anyway.. if you are thinking about reading this one.. don't pass it up..

My favorite quote from Jonah...

“I’ll always hold you when you’re scared.” He softly kisses my jaw. “Comfort you when you’re sad.” His lips brush against my cheeks. “Take care of you when you’re sick.” Tilting my head back, he kisses my forehead. He bends down and his hazel eyes narrow into mine. “I’ll make it my life’s mission to make up for every second you were neglected.”

"You're my saving grace, Jonah. My angel."

Is it possible to find true love in Las Vegas, a city of sins?

A city filled with gamblers and fighters...

A city filled with people with bad intentions...

But at the same time, a city filled with love, hope and good intentions...

Raven Morretti --

Jonah "The Assassin" Slade --

___________________________________________

When the twenty year old girl Raven Morretti starts working as a mechanic for the famous Vegas celebrity Jonah Slade, she never expected to fall for this tough, UFL fighter. He's a typical bad-boy, known for his many one night stands and the fact that he's NEVER been in a committed relationship. Jonah, on the other hand, never expected this a-typical, yet beautiful girl to get under his skin the way she did, either. The way he sees women is simple: Itch. Scratch. No attachments, no feelings involved. But then, this girl comes sweeping into his world and for the first time in his life, he starts to develop feelings...

"Raven is nothing like the girls I'm used to. She's not arrogant or overly aggressive. With her, you get what you see. It's refreshing. I miss her when she's not around. I never miss women. Hell, I go months without seeing my mom and sister. Never bothers me. Raven's been away for twenty-four hours, and I'm going nuts, as if something valuable were missing."

With a call girl as a mother and the infamous pimp Dominick Morretti (or as Jonah calls him, "Domidick") as a father, Raven has never known what it feels like to be loved and cherished by her parents or any other person close to her. Her parents have neglected her her entire life and she's never had anyone taken care of her. But now that she's met Jonah, she's finally found someone who's willing to fight for her. Someone who's willing to give everything up, just so they can be together.

"You're a part of me now. I'd do anything for you; I'll fight for your life as I'd fight for my own."

And when Raven's father suddenly shows up with shocking news and an impossible ultimatum, Jonah has to decide just how far he's willing to go to protect his future with the girl he loves so much...

Is he willing to fight for love

Is he willing to fight for freedom?

Is he willing to Fight for Flight?

....

"Fighting gave me my breath, but you brought me back to life."

"Baby, I promise you that you'll never want for physical contact again. I'll always hold you when you're scared" He softly kisses my jaw. "Comfort you when you're sad." His lips brush against my cheeks. "Take care of you when you're sick." Tilting my head back, he kisses my forehead. He bends down and his hazel eyes narrow into mine. "I'll make it my life's mission to make up for every second you were neglected."

Told in a present tense, dual point of view, this story pleasantly surprised me. Granted, because of the many positive reviews, my expectations were quite high and perhaps it didn't fully live up to them, but I still very much enjoyed reading Fighting For Flight. Raven certainly isn't your typical damsel in distress but I did feel sorry for her and for the fact that she had such and awful father (I truly HATED Dominick!!). And Jonah is just your typical, possessive bad boy, but very swoonworhty nonetheless (Okay, I LOVED him!!).

So, if you're looking for a (a-)typical love story with some very steamy scenes in it, give this one a try!!! And hopefully you'll end up enjoying it as much as I did!!! I'm already looking forward to reading Blake's story in the next part of this series...

"This whole time I thought I was living. But the day I met you, the lights came on. You fill me with things I thought I'd never feel again. You're my angel, baby."

Wow!

 photo ravenquote_zpsc07efefb.jpg

There’s really nothing I love more as a blogger than picking up a novel by a relatively unknown author and realising that you’ve struck gold, that the book is going to be a winner. This is just one of those books, the style flows easily, the central characters are easily to believe in and get behind and root for and the story is angsty, tortuous and completely compelling.

This is the story of Jonah and Raven.

Raven is a beautifully drawn character – she’s the daughter of Vegas’ most notorious pimp and one of his hookers. Her painful family history and a childhood devoid of love and full of neglect have set her on a path determined to be nothing like her prostitute mother. She’s the polar opposite – a tomboy grease-monkey in coveralls which hide her penchant for expensive lingerie. She’s been dealt a rough hand in life and grew up feeling small and insignificant, crushed by sadness but now she’s making her own way in life, trying to distance herself from her family.

Jonah has a bad reputation, to put it mildly. He’s a UFL champion fighter and a playboy, sleeping frequently with surgically-enhanced strippers to scratch an itch, as impersonal as you like. He’s dead inside, just moving from one physical encounter to the next. Despite all this, there is a decent guy hidden in there somewhere, he’s from a nice family but his anger over the tragic loss of his father has locked that side of him away.

The minute he sees Raven for the first time, their eyes lock on each other and the world around them fades away. Raven awakens something inside him and he knows that he just wants to be worthy of her. She’s completely different from the easy women he’s been used to – she has a blatant sex appeal that she seems unaware of and combines it with an almost childlike innocence.

He knows he wants her with an intensity that shocks him and she stirs a strong protective instinct in him. He feels an all-consuming lust and a life-changing love for her and everything he has worked and fought for is about to be put in jeopardy as Raven’s past catches up with her.

This is just a beautiful love story. I loved Jonah and his slow re-awakening and his overwhelming love for Raven. It was touching to see how she slowly brought him back to life. Jonah manages to make Raven feel safe, cherished and protected for the very first time in their life but just as they find one another, that happiness is threatened and their love and freedom hang in the balance and the last 15% of the book is a pulsating page-turner.

This is a great debut novel and is a complete story. There is no cliffhanger and the series will continue with Jonah’s best friend Blake in the next book. Despite it being a full-length novel, I read this very quickly, in one setting – in fact, I devoured it!! It’s a beautiful, compelling romance with a dark, pulsating plot.

This book is for those readers who don’t mind:

1) an insta-love connection
2) insta-lust of the virgin and the one-night-only-casanova
3) buckets of tears from the (stupid) crying heroine
4) overuse of the endearing nicknames of “my girl” and “baby”

This book is not for those who:

1) appreciate character growth and development
2) want a strong, mature, witty heroine
3) enjoy steamy scenes without giggles and crying
4) like to read a believable love story

First things first, I'm sorry I've been way too busy that I didn't have time for you guys.

Seconds, this is what I've been feeling for the past week,

I have over 500 hundred books in my kindle that need to be read and I've been feeling like I have nothing to read. You know what I mean, do you?
When I get like that I usually just start rereading some of my favorite books until something comes along, that is until I realized..

I may be diagnosed with a disease of letting go. The number one problem with me is I hold onto something and can't seem to let get. That is what I was doing with my reading. I can't ever just pick up a book for the hell of it. I'm afraid of starting a new book, afraid of the outcome, afraid of the results and if I might like it or not. But isn't that what life is about, taking risks?

But of course I still couldn't do it. So to make things easier on myself I searched up the books I was gonna reread, which was between Real and Beautiful Disaster (one of my all time favorite books) looked up the similar books and ran across Fighting for Flight and that is how all of this started.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jonah is a famous MMA fighter. He is good at what he does. It all started when his father died when he was twelve. His world revolves around fighting, and he is on his way to becoming the next Heavy Weight Champion. His life is simple really, between his family, friends, and fighting it's all he really cares about. He doesn't do relationship and isn't intending to. He is fine with the nameless hook ups.
Ah hell, I don’t even know her name.
Oh well. Won’t be the first time I bang a nameless face.
Raven is unlike any other girl. She is a mechanic with a sad past. Her mom is a prostitute and her dad is the biggest criminal in Vegas. She tries to stir clear of her family's history as much as possible. She did a good life for herself between her one BFF and Dog she's satisfied of what she accomplished.
Jonah came into the shop looking for a mechanic to fix up his classic Impala, Guy of course recommends Raven(the best for the job) and that is how they meet.
I really enjoyed this book. At first I did feel like the relationship was moving too fast but I over looked it. Of course because of my bae Jonah. He was just the sweetest thing. Totally swooned.
The thing I loved most about this book (besides Blake) was Ravens obsession for VS. I see myself in her. All my money goes straight to VS. that place is my second home.
Overall, really great book. Glad I read it.
5 FAN-FUCKIN-TASTIC STARS AND MORE!!!
Thank you Britney for making me read this!! I Love You :D
This must be the most nail biting book I've ever read!! Jamie Salsbury I will most definately be reading ever other book you EVER write!!!
I LOVE BLAKE and CANNOT wait for his book!!! HOTTTTTTTT!!!!
I was...
Dominic Moretti a notorious pimp impregnates a beautiful prostitute... But the baby was never hers wasn't it....?
Meet Raven...
A girl who practically grows up alone, with a father who has nothing to do with her and a mother who doesn't care about her.. A girl who is different, not worried about shopping and money, but someone who is fascinated with cars. Fixing them, building engines.. A girl so innocent, a virgin who is tainted by her parents profession...
Raven is perfectly content with her life of being alone, her own family is her friends.. She is awesome!! Her cats name is DOG!!!!! soooo cute!!!!
Then there's Jonah Slade... A Champion fighter..
Jonah brings his car to get fixed at a local mechanic. His told Ray would be fixing it... What Jonah does not know is that Ray is a girl...
From the moment Jonah meets Raven, it's immediately taken by her.. She's different..
Life for Jonah is fighting, partying, having sex... With different girls... A man with so many options he never sleeps with the same girl twice. A total man whore and ladies man.
Raven starts working on Jonah's car at his house..
The more time he spends with her the more he thinks about her... The chemistry is almost instant.
Raven has never been touched. Things starts between her and Jonah, she tells him her life.. Her lonely life... He opens to her about secrets he never tells anyone.. She starts staying with him..
She tells him she is a virgin... Pure... Jonah is afraid... His afraid that if he sleeps with her, he won't be interested anymore...
I think Jonah has ..
One day Raven gets a call from her father... She is flabbergasted.. Childhood dreams of her father claiming her and loving her comes to mind.. Raven is hopeful.. Sometimes hope makes us stupid, makes us believe in things which will never happen...
Raven goes to meet the famous Dominic..
I was already in edge at this part...a few OMG moments... Pacing moments... Scared moments... I was finally talked into moving on by my ladies! ;)
And my WORST fears come true! DAMN!!
Dominic is coming to claim Raven alright.... JUST NOT THE WAY SHE HOPED!!!!!
Raven is going to be 21 and breaks it to her that its time for her to be a prostitute just like her mother! If she doesn't, she will kill everyone she loves.....
DREAD filled me.. She finally finds someone and this is what happens???
I found myself praying to God that she tells Jonah.. Hahaha!!
And she does.. Jonah makes a deal with the Devil himself... Dominic wants Jonah to loose the BIGGEST fight of his career. Then he can get her..
Easily said than done! Jonah is a champion undefeated.. Will he RISK EVERYTHING for the woman he loves??
At first I was like NO WAY- then I love how the author explains that you can know a person is 'the one' from the time you meet them...
OMG Jonah and Raven have the most steamy loving soul satisfying SEX ever!!!!
This is some serious panty wetting shit!! Hahaha!!
I was like....
What will happen on the day of the fight??
Let me just warn you that you will be nervous.. Scared, shocked..
hmm ok so I know a lot of people are loving this book right now but it just wasn’t quite everything I’d hoped for.
Maybe it serves me right for not doing my homework ‘cuz I went into this book blind not knowing anything other than the fact that a lot of people were enjoying it and it had a sexy fighter dude as the hero. That alone sold me on the idea.
It had a strong start. I loved the prologue and the tone it set for the story. I felt both riveted to the story and appalled at what was going on. But love the gritty feel of the it and was honestly hooked from there.
The story is about Raven, the daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp who essentially “bred” her (their word, not mine) off of her prostitute mother to literally create the ‘perfect’ hooker for his collection (I’m cringing a little as I write this).
Jonah “the Assassin” Slade is nearly undefeated in the Octagon and his life as a fighter has treated him well. But he does not do relationships. He does not bring girls home. And he never sleeps with the same one twice. He’s all about the fighting. Its his whole world.
Until Raven. Seeing her literally changes him and he falls hard and fast for her. But her evil pimp father has plans for her and is not going to let her go easily and soon Jonah finds himself literally fighting for her life.
“You’re a part of me now. I’d do anything for you. I’d fight for your life as I’d fight for my own.”
The writing style varied. I liked it in certain parts and disliked it in others. I felt the dialogue was much too ‘forced’ at times but at other times I found the writing style smart and almost witty. There were several laugh out loud moments and the first part of the story really flew by for me.
The story started to loose me a little though after the hero and heroine met. I’m very accepting of insta-love but, it has to be handled very carefully and in the case of this story, I just felt it was too much, too soon.
That being said, I did enjoy part of my read. But there were times when I felt that the story was being told to me rather than allowing me to experience it and the character’s inner monologue of constantly questioning themselves got to me a bit after a while.
I went back and forth between enjoying it and just feeling really disconnected from it. I almost put it down just cuz I really wasn’t ‘feeling’ it but in the end decided to keep going just in case.
I liked Jonah and he had a lot going for him – sexy tattoos and dimples for example – and he was sweet and considerate and VERY protective of her but I had issues with a few of his actions that really made him loose swoon points in my eyes. One was this scene where he pretty much just randomly looses it on her and calls her a ‘bitch’ when seriously, she didn’t do anything deserving of it. *shakes head* SO not cool! And then another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was this: “Fuck. She’s right… The most important thing is to keep Raven calm and safe. That’s where my focus needs to be, at least until this shit is over.” … I’m sorry, I get the whole keep her safe thing, but keep her CALM? Wtf? He was the one with the temper, not her. Ugh.
I feel like this story could be good. I love the cover, I love the premise and I really liked several parts of the book but over all there were too many things that jumped out at me for me to fully be able to enjoy it. I could see the themes that the author was going for here – feeling worthy of love, feeling appreciated, not judging a person on their background etc but it was the delivery that needed some work. I wanted more time spent fleshing out their relationship, some of the dialogue really needed to be smoothed out and it just needed a bit more… depth to it.
It wasn’t a bad read though and I know a lot of you have enjoyed it so who knows? Maybe you’ll like it? It just wasn’t really for me.
4.5 stars!
What I loved:
The prologue sucked me in like a vacuum cleaner.
Dual POV---brilliant or superb as my BBF, Anna stated.
Sex scenes---some of the best I have ever read in a NA book.
Loved the characters-
There was not one thing annoying about Raven; she was independent yet young, open and honest, unloved but so lovable. Jonah was all fighter alpha man-whorish. Sweet mama’s boy but bitter over the loss of his Dad when he was young. He never f**ked the same gal twice and had never been in love until…. he set eyes on his ‘mechanic’- yeah gripe all you want about “insta-love” as this book has it, but I thought it worked.
There was no bullshit, major misunderstanding, deceit- just in your face open and honest how I feel and I fell in love right along with Raven and Jonah as well as Blake. Loved Jonah’s Mom Katherine as she was completely accepting and supportive of Raven and her checkered past.
So… some may say “oh how unrealistic” and yeah it is-this is fiction people. But this book is a modern day fairytale that I adored!
“To think that I could experience this all-consuming lust, as well as the soul-shackling love that I would die to keep, is life changing. This tiny girl who works on cars, laughs at stupid jokes, and blushes at the slightest flirtation is mine. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for her. I would spend the rest of my life making her happy if she’d let me. So this is love. My life will never be the same.”-Jonah
Fantastic debut novel, Jamie!
*2.5 Stars*
An entertaining read, but fell short of my expectations.
Fighting For Flight kicked off on a highly intriguing note. I was immediately sucked in to the lives of Raven and Jonah. But as the story progressed, it slowly lost its grip on me and I found myself at a disconnect with the characters.
Raven is your typical gorgeous, insecure, heroine with her v-card still intact—but has suffered an insanely tragic childhood. Her character was endearing, but I felt lacked some personality. Due to her uniquely disturbing background, she had the potential of being the most complex, rounded character of the story—and I was disappointed that she never fully rose to the challenge.
Jonah 'The Assasin', is a UFL fighter who sets aside his infamous playboy ways when he meets Raven. There was definitely an 'insta-love' connection with these two, but it seemed to work fairly well within the story. Jonah was possessive and jealous, but not to an unhealthy extent. He was also very caring and his feelings for Raven felt authentic. Their connection was sizzling hot, and if you enjoy descriptive love scenes, you surely won't be disappointed in that area!
There were portions of this story that were serious and almost dark, and then there were portions that seemed entirely light and fluffy...giving the overall tone an unsteady feel. I did enjoy the fighting aspect and found myself appreciating it more than the actual romance. Although the ending was somewhat predictable, there were beautiful moments that left me almost teary-eyed. I think this story had potential to fly, but there were a few elements weighing it down.
All-in-all, a fun and sexy read that I'd recommend to those who love strong, possessive heroes complimented by damaged, innocent, sweet heroines...and, of course, lots of steam! Although it didn't entirely work for me, it seems to be very well received by others—so I hope you all enjoy!
“You’re like that single wild flower that grows from the crack in the pavement: miraculous growth with no water source or fertile soil. A person walking by would step around that flower to avoid crushing it. It’s not like the field of wild flowers you tromp through carelessly, crushing them under your feet, knowing that the next day will bring a hundred more.”
Raven
[image error]
Raven is not a typical girl.She is a car mechanic and the daughter of a whore.She grew up with her mother's hate and away from her father ,who is a pimp.
Jonah
Jonah is a UFL fighter.He is a womenizer and too frivolous when it comes to a relationship.He lost his dad when he was twelve and that changed him in a bad way.He became a heckler until he discovered that he could use his anger and deal with his pain in a healthier way, by fighting.
Raven starts working for Jonah but she never expected that a guy like him would fall seriously for a girl , as Johah is famous for his one night stands.
The relationship they develop is strong,true and full of passion.
A lifetime would never be enough of Raven.
I'll always hold you when you are scared.
Comfort you when you are sad.
Take care of you when you are sick.
I'll make it a life misssion to make up for every second you were neglected.
Everything is so sweet between them until Domidick , err Dominick appears.
He is the worst father EVER!
When he called her I didnt thought that it would be something important
but I was left speechless.
However , Jonah loves her so much that he is willing to pay any price even if that means that he has to lose a fight , thus losing reputation , disappoint his fans and all those who depend on him.
But these things mean nothing to him when it comes to Raven's safety.
I'll fight for your life as I'd fight for my own.
While I was reading the day of the fight I was so suspicious that something will go wrong.
My feelings:
When Candy (a whore) approached Jonah.
All in all , I really loved this book because of the characters and the interesting plot.Jonah changed for her and felt the joy of being in love with someone.Raven is smart and funny.She never believed that he would love her so much and the whole thing between them was very beautiful.
I cannot wait to read Blake's story.I'm very curious to read his book because he is funny and chases anything with boobs , so I think his story will be interesting.
well crud, I wanted to like it a lot but something was just... meh...
I think it was her..
With all the good reviews I read I expected something WOW but I just didn't feel that WOW :)
I am giving this book a good solid 3 stars, it would have been 2,5 but I kinda fell in love with side character Blake :)
The book actually started really great for me, I really liked it but I don't know why I kinda lost that feeling. It was pretty predictable from the beginning, and that wasn't even the problem for me.
With Raven being who she is, a mechanic, with actually not so bad past but more like potentially bad future, I expected her to be more stronger, more built up character, yes she has horrible parents but they weren't there, but all I saw was somebody so fragile, on the edge to cry constantly, blinking away tears etc.
I kinda expected some cool chick, who doesn't say "crud" or "effing", who doesn't put up with anybody's bullshit but I didn't get that.
there's this sentence in this book:
"Surviving is nothing to be ashamed of. It's something to be proud of."
But honestly I felt like everybody else had to do that surviving for her. I wanted her to fought back from the beginning and not accept her bad future, I wanted her to not let Jonah give up on his dreams so she could survive because of him. I wanted her to try and survive by herself with his help, and to show her father that she won't take his bullshit easily.
When it comes to Jonah I liked him. I liked him a lot. I can't say he wasn't hot when he was. He wanted to protect her, wanted to have her, to love her, make her his from the moment he saw her, blah, blah, blah...
The only thing that got on my nerve was him constantly calling her "my girl, my shy girl, my greedy girl...."
I really liked their sexy times, it's really not hard to please me with sex in fiction, but the moment when she lost her virginity and was hiding bloody sheets from him and he told her
"i hope it does stain so that every time i sleep on them, i'll be reminded of our first time"
I couldn't help myself from picturing him in wrapped bloody sheets, which was a bit turn off that was followed with a burst of laughter. But as all main alpha characters he got my liking again later on.
Now the reason for my 3 stars!
BLAKE <3
Now this is a story I seriously can not wait to read! I loved him from the beginning! I loved every cheesy, funny line that got out of his mouth! I wouldn't change a thing about him and I wished he got more time in this book but oh well... he will have plenty of time in his own book :)
This story actually had so many potential to be amazing, at least to me, but I guess it didn't live up for my expectations.
I can't say I didn't like the story, I did, I just expected something else, more like I expected her to be something that she started to be only at the ending of the book.
so to sum it up like this:
Raven - 1 star
Jonah - 4 stars
Blake - 5 stars
The story - 2.5 stars
Well if this doesn't define the "everyone loved it but me feeling," I don't know what does. I couldn't get into this and I think the sole reason was Raven. I just couldn't buy into her character.
In my opinion, there's no way the daughter of a drug-prositution ring leader and seasoned prositute-who supposedly continued to work as a prostitute during that daughter's formative years- would end up being like Raven, i.e, a 20 year old virgin mechanic that can't cuss and cries in practically every chapter.
My inability to buy into Raven colored the entire story for me, so I won't get into anything further than that.
Anyway, I know everyone else swooned over this one (I wish I had too!) and I'm glad others enjoyed it. I just couldn't suspend my own opinions for this one to stick for me.
A few quick thoughts:
The good:
*Jonah
*Jonah
*Jonah: The man is amazing...hugely muscled UFL champion, a god in bed, ridiculously tender with his woman and his Mom...nuff said
* Some really skanky adversaries that were actually treated like skanks instead of being sent on their way with a pat on their heads. Maybe I live in a bubble, but does any girl really act this way? Anyhow, they got what was coming to them...
*Blake!!!!! Why do I always fall in love with the oversexed male sidekick? I freaking LOVED Blake!!! He's unabashedly sexual, and he never lets up...but that's who he is, and it's just accepted. I liked how Raven just laughed him off instead of getting pissed at his chauvinism. It was all in good fun, and he was one of my favorite parts about the book...maybe even more so than Jonah?!
The bad:
* Raven is not the tough chick I thought she'd be. At first, I thought that she was, but soon enough, the tears start to trickle...and flow...and soon I wondered if she'd wash away on her own self made river. She starts to rely on Jonah too much for my tastes. There's one thing about letting a man stand up for you and protect you, but another about hiding behind him and letting him be your shield.
* Some of the circumstances seemed pretty fantastical...some of the characters didn't act realistically. One example - why did pimp daddy go to so much trouble to pimp his own daughter? That's like his entire goal since she was a newborn...why? No explanation...there were quite a few sensationalized instances, in my humble opinion.
It was still an okay read, but again one that didn't grab me like I wanted it to.
A couple of fave quotes:
-- "Anyone up for a ride on the bi-polar coaster..."
(That's Raven speaking of herself...love that she could see her own flaws.)
-- "To think that I could experience this all consuming lust, as well as the soul-shackling love that I would die to keep is life changing. This tiny girl who works on cars, laughs at stupid jokes, and blushes at the slightest flirtation is min. There is nothing I wouldn't do for her. I would spend the rest of my life making her happy if she'd let me.
So this is love.
My life will never be the same..."
--"That's it!" Locking her eyes with mine, she throws her hands in the air. "I'm done. I'm switching teams. I despise men and from now on will only date women...
"Are you going to be okay?" I'm grateful to see her previously purple face fade to a splotchy red.
"Me? Hell yeah, I'll be okay. I'm a lesbian now."
I’m doing a re-read via audio version. If you haven’t tried audio, you should do it. It’s the best way to re-read your favorite books or even just try new ones.
4 Worth Fighting Stars
First off, Fighting for Flight starts out with a BAM and I was instantly drawn into the story. I couldn’t stop reading. JB Salsbury knows how to set-up the story. I felt like it really established the tone and pace for the read. I knew it would be slightly intense and steamy.
Raven doesn’t have the best parents. Her mom is a prostitute and her dad is a famous Las Vegas Pimp. Raven is twenty years old and works a mechanic. I really liked Raven. I found her character unique, sassy and strong. I didn’t know how a Heroine working as a mechanic would work for me, but it completely did. I found it cute reading her gushing over cars.
Raven is a character and you just feel for. She lives on her own and doesn’t really have friends. Because she doesn’t have the best parents, she’s shy, timid and doesn’t really go out. Jonah has money and is famous. Because Jonah is so high up, women use him for connections and therefore he doesn’t think the best of them.
Jonah is a famous fighter and has a car he needs restored. Raven goes to Jonah’s house daily to restore his car. Jonah is a player and doesn’t have sex with the same woman twice, but there’s something about Raven that might change his ways. Jonah is SUPER alpha. I love how determined he is. I love that he doesn’t play games and when he sees something he wants he goes for it. He’s apprehensive at first when he meets Raven because he’s never slept with the same woman twice and he’s scared that if he sleeps with Raven then he will lose interest.
I gobbled up the relationship between Jonah and Raven. I loved how they meet and I love every interaction. Jonah invites Raven to a pool party and Raven doesn’t want to seem needy and Jonah tries desperately to stay away from Raven, but of course everyone is checking Raven out. And it gets Jonah kind of jealous. It’s really adorable.
The relationship between Raven and Jonah form fairly quickly and I would call it insta-connection. There’s plenty of steam and tension to keep you going. I really liked Jonah’s friends. They are funny and add a little something to the story. We will see more of them in future books.
More stuff happens and Jonah puts himself in the situation where he has to protect Raven. Yes, I love it too!
Flight for Flight is about Jonah and Raven’s relationship and the obstacles Raven must face when her past slowly starts to resurface. It’s a dramatic read, with slight tension and a fighting theme.
Audio Questions:
Where does Fighting for Flight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Fighting for Flight was an easy book to listen to, even though it’s a drama. I could listen to this in one sitting. There’s so much that goes on to keep your interest and there’s plenty of book to listen to. It was well worth the listen.
What other book might you compare Fighting for Flight to and why?
I would compare Fighting for Flight to Vi Keeland’s MMA Fighter series or Katy Evan’s Real series. Both series have a fighter’s theme with strong males and a slightly intense dramatic storyline.
Which character – as performed by Ryan West and Erin Mallon – was your favorite?
I love Erin Mallon. I think she’s one of the best female narrators. I follow her books and I thought she was the perfect Raven. I felt her emotions completely. I also love her voice transitions into other characters, especially the male ones. She does great male transitions. Her voice is light, sweet and unique.
This is my first Ryan West narration. I love Ryan’s voice. I found it not so deep, but definitely dominate. I could imagine Jonah completely. I thought he conveyed the emotions well and he did great female transitions. I did find his voice a bit slow at times. His pauses were a bit too long for me and so I did speed up his parts by one forth the normal rate.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I really enjoyed Fighting for Flight. I thought the cover and story was unique. I loved the intro and it was the perfect tone to set for the rest of the book. I was immersed in the story and I felt like I connected to the characters.
"I almost lost you."
"No, never. I would've fought. However long it took. I'd never give up until I was free. You're my life, Jonah. My family, my love, my best friend. Nothing, not even destiny, could keep me from you."
He leans forward and brushes his lips against mine.
"Okay."
I must say I really enjoyed this one. Hate wrestling/fighting but said to myself "give it a go". If the prologue doesn't pull you in straight away, I don't know what would. As far as I know it is the first book by this author and a job well done. Loved the two main characters. A "true love at first sight" story. When I read that the heroine was only 20, was a bit wary as I like my Heros and Heroines a little older. But Raven had to grow up fast and did not come across as immature and she was working and not in College. Towards the end, during the Big Title Fight and immediately after, my heart was in my mouth. I did not know which way it was going to go .... Jonah fought for this one true love and in the end it all ended Happily Ever After. Not so sure I would be as forgiving of the mother ...
Looking forward to the next in this series and the potty-mouthed Blake.
Well done to Ms Salsbury for a great book. OKAY!
This was my first book by this author, and I really liked it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was nervous that I wasn’t going to like the mechanic h, and at first it was annoying me that the only thing setting her apart from the girls the manho H banged and forgot, was that she was in a non-girly occupation. 🙄 As if any girl that isn’t a tomboy is by default a worthless brainless sl#t… but that aspect got better for me. Her job isn’t really a huge factor in the book, bedsides opening up the opportunity for our MCs to meet. So, if you’re looking forward to that aspect, you might be disappointed. 😬 But if you’re like me and don’t really love the exalted badass tomboy trope (nOt LikE oTHeR GirLs 🙄), then you’ll be good. 👍🏻 😅
Things I loved:
💕 v*rg*n h (20) - she’s vulnerable with a rough past
💕 Manhoooaar MMA fighter H (26) - he’s immediately reformed upon meeting the h
💕 H is a jealous/possessive bulldozer and he’s never been like that before. He’s very confused by his feelings and actions
💕 h is a true damsel in distress, although she gets to do for herself too
💕 I loved how committed and loyal the H was
💕OW drama with no cheating - added some good angst 😈
💕 no separations 🙌🏻🙌🏻
What I didn’t like:
😐 The I love you’s come super early in the book. Like WELL before halfway. And for a gal who revels in relationship drama, this was concerning and annoying #imadramahooaar 🤷🏼‍♀️
😐 The H is very protective/controlling - so it greatly annoyed me that when he really should have been he wasn’t. I’m assuming the author was trying to make him a bit woke, but what a dumb time to demonstrate that. 👀😑
😐 the evil OW just sort of disappears. She causes loads of trouble and then we don’t get a resolution other than the HEA. 🙄 She goes to jail but there’s no confrontation.
Bottom line? I really liked it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I will be scouring this author’s back catalogue for more NA books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing
- OW drama - an old hook up tries to make trouble - the H has no interest in her and tells her to get lost - every time she makes a pass he pushes her away
- OM drama - H gets jealous of anyone looking at the h
- no dubcon
- attempted shexxual @ss@ult on the h by OP
- h is a 20 yr old virgin
- H is a 26 yr old manhoooaar - before he meets the h, we see him reluctantly screw a stripper - it wasn’t super intimate or detailed, he’s doesn’t know her name, doesn’t kiss her, and doesn’t stay the night, but this hookup does come back to cause him grief.
- h is neglected by her parents. Her mother is a prostitute and her father is a pimp - her dad tries to blackmail her into pr0st*tution
- no condoms - they discuss sexual health and birth control
Spoilers ahead
I apparently read this in my pre Goodreads days, having read Jack and Sadie I decided to start the series from the beginning. I wanted to copy my Amazon review of this book to here but I was too embarrassed to do so. In the way back when I read this book I apparently lacked common sense and good taste because that review in no way reflects my current feelings of this book.
Jonah is a complete and utter asshole! The way he talks about women!!?? OMG he might as well call them cum dumpsters!! He had no respect for women but yet he frequently, very frequently mind you, has sex with them! Strippers are people too jackass!!!!! But of course the innocent,sweet, naive VIRGIN mechanic is the one to change him.... I mean this guy was proud.....proud I tell ya.....of the fact that he still wanted the h after ONE WEEK!!!! Because you know that's a record for him!!!! I mean seriously????
He had slept with a OW one week before he met the h and that sex scene while not descriptive had me cringing..... The way he treated that woman.....OMG somebody hold me back I'm about to lose it on a fictional douchewaffle!!!!!!
And don't get me started on the perfect h who everyone loved but who had just enough of a tragic past to create some drama
ROMANCE lovers may want to skip this one and read Jack and Sadie only, apparently the next generation were smarter than their parents but given the high reviews 🤷 to each their own....
What do you get when a drop-dead gorgeous tattooed woman named Raven who's an expert mechanic and a bad-ass mixed martial arts fighter meet? The story to end all stories. Oh. My. God.
These two burn up the pages with how much chemistry they ignite. Give me a minute here. *fanning myself…..*
Jonah has never done relationships. He has one use for women and that's purely a one time sexual thing. He has no patience or use for anything more. In fact, just the thought of a woman wanting more has him cringing. He's a mixed martial arts fighter and is weeks away from the championship match. This is his only focus. And then he meets Raven.
Raven is the product of a notorious Las Vegas pimp and one of his prostitutes. You would think that would be the worst of it. You'd be wrong. Her father is a powerful and evil criminal who purposely got her mother pregnant for the sole purpose of breeding an equally beautiful woman to work for him. So on her 21st birthday she will get some pretty bad news. He allows her mother to raise her until this time and she grows up with no love or compassion whatsoever from her. Her mother doesn't want to get attached knowing what her father has in store for her. Despite all the ugliness of her life, Raven emerges as a beautiful, sweet, amazing woman. She has a job as a mechanic and plans to own the shop when her boss retires. What I love about her is that she has so many layers to her. On one side, you see this stunning tattooed woman who works on cars and knows her stuff. So she's probably all hard and tough, (especially with her upbringing) right? Wrong. She's funny, quirky, she doesn't swear and has a heart of gold. Oh, and she's a virgin. Yup.
“You’re like that single wild flower that grows from the crack in the pavement: miraculous growth with no water source or fertile soil. A person walking by would step around that flower to avoid crushing it. It’s not like the field of wild flowers you tromp through carelessly, crushing them under your feet, knowing that the next day will bring a hundred more.”
Jonah pulls up to Raven's garage expecting to find a mechanic to help him restore his '61 Impala. He sees Raven "Ray" walk out and he's a goner. The instant attraction is there for both of them and they are tongue-tied and gobsmacked. Jonah invites her to do the work at his house and she agrees. Jonah finds himself thinking and doing things with Raven that are unprecedented.
Inviting her to his house? Check.
Thinking about her all the time? Check.
Fantasizing about her….Check, Check.
The two of them spend lots of time together working on his car and it's so comfortable and natural right off the bat.
The secondary characters are pretty great as well. Jonah's fighter friend Blake is hilarious. He's a unashamed horndog and had me cracking up. "If I flip a coin, what are the chances I'll get head?"…somehow he manages to be funny and hot and not pervy. He's actually a sweetheart underneath all that and becomes just as protective of Raven as Jonas. There's one part between Jonas and his mom that killed me…
“Mom, I want to tell you I met someone. It’s the mechanic who’s helping me with my car. Things are getting serious between us, and I thought you should know.” Silence. “Mom?” I check to make sure our call didn’t get dropped. Nope, still connected. “Mom, you still there?” She clears her throat. “Yes, Joey, I’m here.” Why is she acting so weird? I know I’ve never had a serious girlfriend before, but I thought she would be off the wall about my finally settling down. “What’s wrong? I thought you’d be excited about my being in a serious relationship.” “Oh, honey, I’m very happy for you. It’s just . . . I guess I thought . . . Well, it’s just a shock, that’s all. I always thought you liked girls.” My eyes bug out of my head and I choke. I cough to clear my voice. “What? Of course, I like girls. Wait, Mom, Raven is a girl! Shit, you thought I was telling you I was dating a guy? Fuck me.”
Jonas and Raven connect pretty quickly but they have one huge, massive problem hovering over their heads. Her 21st birthday. Once they become aware of her father's plans for her, Jonah makes a deal with the devil for her freedom. Throw the championship fight and he won't force her into working for him. But things don't exactly go as planned.
These two are amazing together, the sex between them is off the charts and I was totally in love with their story from page one to end.
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo….
Actual Rating: 3.5 stars.
I liked the story. However, I din’t like the resolution of the conflict with the father. Also, as a personal note, I think that what happed at the very end
Note about the series in general:
The love stories in this series are pretty good. I have enjoyed all of them.
However, the characters, both females and males, lack judgment and in some cases, intelligence. There is chauvinism here and the men are controlling and impulsive.
Despite this, the books are worth reading and thus, I´ll keep following this series.
5 Stars!
This was one of my favorite reads of 2013! I absolutely devoured this book.
Fighting For Flight is the story of Raven Morretti and Jonah "The Assasin" Slade.
Raven: The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp. A HOT tattooed mechanic. A virgin.
Jonah: Local celebrity and UFL playboy!
[image error]
Jonah and Raven meet at the garage where Raven works--sparks fly (pun intended). What starts as a friendship builds in to something smokin' hot! The sexual chemistry between Raven and Jonah ignited the pages. There was smoke coming from my Ipad! :)
I absolutely LOVED Jonah and Raven--I don't think I can find one complaint about either one.
You, Raven Morretti, are mine. Doesn't matter if you're a virgin or an alien. What you've told me changes nothing. Not. One. Thing.
Swoon!!!!
One day Raven gets an unexpected call from her father, who she hasn't seen or heard from in years. He has come to "claim" Raven. It was like someone stabbed me right in the heart! I was gutted. It was heartbreaking!
Jonah and Raven devise a plan to ensure her freedom-- And I'm really trying hard not to give anything away because the excitement and suspense of this book were some of the best parts. I was literally on pins and needles the majority of the book. My stomach was in knots and there were times I was so scared to read but yet I couldn't make myself stop.
The day of the fight, things don't go according to plan and all hell breaks loose. Now I'm really freaking the eff out!! Screaming at my Ipad, eyes glued to the screen, texting my friend like a maniac--you know who you are!
I really don't want to give anything away just trust me when I say--this book was the SHIT! You have to read it to experience the greatness!! And fear not, there is a HEA!
This whole time I thought I was living. But the day I met you, the lights came on. You fill me with things I thought I'd never feel again. You're my angel, baby.
And one more piece of greatness....BLAKE! Blake was Jonah's best friend and he was AWESOME. Can't wait for his book--Fighting To Forgive. Blake was the KING of the one-liners. Here's just a few to give you a good laugh!
A little later we can play Titanic. I'll yell iceburg and you can go down.
Gives a whole new meaning to the term body shop. His eyes settle on her legs. Nice legs, what time do they open?
If I flip a coin, what are the chances I’ll get head?
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. Raven has her father's eyes. She could not be more different from him. She is the light and he is the dark. She is the hope and he is the harbinger of despair.
[image error]
I'm balancing on the edge of something huge. I try to push back, clawing my way back to solid ground, when everything in me screams to swan dive off the precipice.
Jonah has closed himself off. He refuses to get attached to anyone. He turned his rage into a career as a successful fighter. He has no idea what to think when he spots a spunky young female mechanic at an auto body shop. She pushes all of his buttons and he immediately feels something. She starts tearing down his walls and she makes him want to protect and cherish her.
I've seen you two together:the way he looks at you when you're not looking, like your the sun and he's happily stuck in your orbit.
Raven's father has a plan. Raven was meant to be. She has a purpose and he is pushing her toward her destiny.
Raven sees what she could have only to see it all slip away. She finds a family and a purpose but is it her destiny?
******************************************
To think I could experience this all consuming lust, as well as a soul shackling love that I would die to keep, is life changing. This tiny girl who works on cars, laughs at stupid jokes, and blushes at the slightest flirtation is mine. I would spend the rest of my life making her happy if she'd let me.
*****************************************
This book made me feel so many things. I loved Jonah. He was a hero, a tough guy, a sweetheart and a hot sexy man. He never gave up on what he believed in and he fought for what he believed was right.
Raven was a strong, independent woman who came into her own. She discovered who she was and what she was meant to be.
**This is a new favorite for me. I will be looking for this author in the future. **
Solid and nail biting 3.5 stars.......
'The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp, Raven Morretti grew up an outsider. Liberated from the neglectful home of her prostitute mother, she finds solace as a mechanic. With few friends, she’s content with the simple life. Flying under the radar is all she knows, and more than she expects.
Until she catches the eye of local celebrity, UFL playboy Jonah Slade.
Weeks away from his title fight, Jonah is determined to stay focused on everything he’s trained so hard to achieve. Undefeated in the octagon, he’s at the height of his career. But resisting Raven’s effortless allure and uncomplicated nature is a fight he can’t win.
Jonah trades in his bad-boy reputation and puts his heart on the line. But when her father contacts her, setting in motion the ugly truth of her destiny, Jonah must choose. In a high-stakes gamble where love and freedom hang in the balance, a war is waged where the price of losing is a fate worse than death.'
Well this was another really entertaining 'tough alpha male meets vulnerable yet strong heroine'. The story in general I loved, there was some great sexual chemistry between Jonah and Raven, and some smokin' hot sex scenes. There was a good deal of romance and some really heart touching moments. There was also an intriguing plot that made me want to keep turning the page and as well as loving the main characters I also loved most of the supporting characters, especially play boy fighter Blake, he really made me smile. (And I'm so flipping happy the next book in the series is about him!!!!)
So why the 3.5 star rating?, well although there are times that I love a 'quickie' .....this couple went from complete strangers to deeply in love in what felt like a nano second, and although this in no way took away from the excellent and descriptive writing and the engaging and endearing characters, it did make it feel slightly rushed. I would have loved to have been able to see this couples relationship develop at a much more realistic pace, that way we could have really seen what made them tick as individuals and their obviously high sexual chemistry could have grown at a much more believable rate.......rather than the 'Wam, Bam, Thank you Mam' rate.
Despite this small hitch, I still loved this one, Jamie Salsbury’s debut novel Fighting for Flight is a beautifully written, fighter love story, its definitely worth a read, and I certainly will be on the look out for the next in the series.
This
Book
is
simply amazing...
This book is very well written, the characters were captured in their own light that brought them together perfectly. Both POV's was amazing, after each POV I wanted more from that character.
I couldn't put this book down for nothing, I was sadly very upset when I was falling asleep from staying up way to late to try to finish this book. I want more from this Author and more of these brilliant characters that holds my heart very deeply. I am ready for Blake. My, my, my, Blake is going to yummy.
This book brought out so many emotions in me, I felt anger, hatred, sad, disgusted, happy, laughing my ass off till tears were running out of my eyes, heart warming love that will last a lifetime.
Jonah
Jonah UFL fighter is drop dead falling to my knees hot as hell. He is a very lovable character. He has so much passion and bring that out in him, very protective that makes me want to hug him and hang from his arm.
Raven
I absolutely loved her to death.
"You laugh even when I'm not trying to be funny. What'd I say?"
