(4 of 5 for the last book of wild west anthology series with together almost 800 pages of western-themed comics)
Outlaw Territory, a working title which sticks and shielded the entire series of anthologies, which should be short but ended on three thick books. That’s a lot. The quality of contributions vary, there are stories not to my taste in art, story or both. I claim there are a few shitty ones. But hey. If I take the whole set 750-ish pages, and that's quite a bunch, and recollect all that unripe or bad apples and make a comparison – it’s not bad. It’s great actually. The Western theme is weary. The movies, books, TV series, comics, they tapped a lot of possible stories and ground usable stereotypes to the bones. And there are some great talents, but not A list comics players who managed to still create good ones. Not all, of course, but a great amount of them. Here on Goodreads all three books are rather poorly accepted. Scores are 3,3, 3,7 and 3,5 which is not great on GR standards. And I disagree with that. Not even I find the first and the last better than the second, I believe if you’re at least a little Wild West buff you must appreciate this. Michael Woods pulled out one big collection of short western stories, where I believe the short format got the best of most of the authors involved. Here and there you can even find some names which are well known between comics fans. But the most important thing is – I loved the reading. The adventures, twist, humour, brutality, successful acts of revenge alongside with sad endings it all was a great experience and I enjoyed it. If you like Westerns and don’t hate anthologies, this is definitely worth a try. Start with the first one – if you don't like it, fine. But if you do like it – yay! There is two times more of that for you!

It pains me to give this two stars, it really does.

I've been a big fan of the Outlaw Territory anthologies, even as I seem to be the only person in the comic book world who seems to give a damn about them.

The first two volumes were fantastic. Like, really fantastic. A lot of that came from my love of westerns and western-themed comics, but really - the chance for creator known and unknown to just do really short stories, unrestricted by censors or anything was awesome.

And this one certainly has moments, but I don't know if it has a single story that sticks out. There are lots of instances of scalping, LOTS of instances of revenge, lots of mother's being raped, lots of women getting back at men, lots of goofballs. The styles are more varied as far as art goes in this volume, but nothing really reaches the heights that the previous two volumes were able to reach.

So yeah, bummer that the series is done - but I'm glad to have all 3.

I got this because I love western movies, but wasn't sure how the genre would work in a graphic novel. To be honest I wasn't expecting to like it, but I ended up loving it. It's a collection of short stories about the old west and most of them are excellent. I'm going to try the other 2 volumes now.
