Rate this book
Richard Peddie has learned many leadership lessons over a long and successful business career as president of Hostess Foods, Pillsbury Canada, SkyDome, NetStar Communications, the Toronto Raptors, and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).

Here, he shares the twenty-one most important lessons he learned—and sometimes relearned—along the way. 21 Leadership Lessons contains a lifetime of business wisdom, serving as a mentor-in-a-book for the next generation of business leaders, and a valuable refresher for those more experienced.

Full of candid personal stories of successes and discoveries, major challenges, and even failures, 21 Leadership Lessons includes worldly business advice for young, aspiring leaders, from the corporate sector, the sports world, as well as from the government and not-for-profit sectors.

As entertaining as it is instructive, 21 Leadership Lessons covers a wide range of topics, including:

• the importance of vision and values
• the need for contrary thinkers
• leading with an edge
• the need to say thank you—often
• walking the talk
• how to be a complete coach, and more.

Also supplementing the leadership lessons themselves are Peddie’s lists of 21: his 21 favourite quotes, 21 invaluable tips from other proven leaders, his 21 favourite leadership books, and others.

If you aspire to being an excellent leader someday, your leadership journey is never done—and 21 Leadership Lessons will give you the perfect head start on your own road to success.

A valuable tool for anyone heading out into the world.
Peddie has broken down the bits and pieces that make a good leader into digestible chunks that are easy to understand and even easier to implement. Vision, values, goal setting - all have been done to death - but this book speaks also about the importance of people, using best practices and the willingness to see yourself taken down a peg.

Told in a casual, over coffee kind of way these practices can be used anywhere - the multinational boardroom to the corner cafe. I can picture the kind of the leader this book would produce. It's the kind I'd like to be and I'd like to follow.

It makes me happy to be the first one to rate this book on here. It makes me happy that I received, and read this sighed book almost one month before the release date. Dr. Peddie, a graduate from the same university I am currently in (University of Windsor), gave a wonderful talk introducing his book and ideas and inspired me to read more books in general.

This book talks about Leadership. A concept not many pay attention to. It is not about financial tips or money tricks. It is about attitude and character. The book teaches you how to be a leader, simple. The way the book was constructed was perfect. It had chapters that you can just open and read without reading what was before. I chose to read it cover to cover, but I know that if I need to look back at any of the lessons in the book I may do so easily.

One of my new goals is to read the recommended list of leadership books in this book. Lesson 10 talks about 21 books that Dr. Peddie recommends personally. I find that in order to be a successful leader you need to pick up more books and learn.

One of the things I always say is.

"In order to learn to write or speak, you must first learn to read and listen."

You can never get enough of reading. And when talking about Leadership, 21 Leadership Lessons is the perfect first read. This book is also amazing especially if you're in your 20's like me, but also for any age with the will to gain knowledge of leadership.
