Holy 'inner dialogue' Batman!

I loved Blake in Missed Connections. His character was sweet, funny, and thoughtful. And while he wasn't the intended love interest in that book, I was really happy to hear that he was getting his turn to find a love connection in the sequel.

Blake was still a great character in this book, too! He wasn't quite as humorous this time around but still had a few moments here and there. And he was still a sweet guy with a heart of gold and a body to match. I even liked his willingness to help his friend out by checking in on his little sister, Melanie, during her sudden vacation.

Melanie's existence was in limbo. She liked her job but it was beginning to fall flat for her as she wanted a change of scenery. A change of scenery she found when she swapped houses with a stranger for two weeks, leaving on a well-needed trip to Miami. We watched her struggle with her desire to be a more daring and outgoing woman during her getaway.

The idea was intriguing and the characters were primed for this story. Unfortunately, the execution fell short for me. The book started off well enough, with our couple making their way to the vacation spot and crossing paths. Their chemistry was believable, especially considering the two characters were already well-acquainted at the beginning of the book. The romance bloomed quickly into a full-fledged romp in the sheets. I was not bothered by the speediness of the romance, at all.

My problem with the book came after the couple established an intimate relationship. There was quite a bit of sex happening and very little else. The main conflict of this story came from the "what-ifs" that were barely even real problems considering this was a coupling of two mature adults. And there was so dang much inner dialogue, it made my head spin. Thoughts were repeated, over and over, and I was inwardly screaming for the story to move along.

In closing...
While I still have love for Blake, I think this book could have been half the length if the pages upon pages of inner "thoughts" were minimized or removed. That would have left more room for love scenes and fun outings or even a real conflict or two. As is, I give it 2.5 suns!

New Yorker Melanie Walker isn’t usually one to take chances or let loose. But she’s in big need of a vacation and stressed out enough to house switch with a complete stranger in Florida. Only there can she finally feel free to indulge in nude beaches and her brother’s best friend, Blake Wilde.

“‘Nude beaches are sexier for women. When your parts get cold, they tighten up, get more interesting. When our parts get cold, they try to crawl up our asses to keep warm and we look like Ken dolls.’”

Mel has always had a crush on Blake, and now that Blake is seeing Mel in a new light, it doesn’t take long for their friendship to turn to lovers in the sunshine state. Told via their alternating first person POV, this is a light-hearted, feel-good story about finding your true self and happiness. There’s pleasantly zero OW/OM drama. It’s just a fun vacation journey of two people falling in love and having plenty of sexy times.

“‘I’m going to fuck you. Hard. Hard enough that you feel it for days. And every time the turbulence jostles you in your seat on your flight home, I want you to think of me and remember why you’re sore. I want you worn out. Exhausted. Your throat raw from screaming my name.’”

Blake was a total great guy! So many brother’s best friend tropes drag out unnecessary sexist drama, but thankfully that didn’t happen here. Blake knew their relationship could put their family ties at risk, but he kept that in perspective and went after what he wanted. Mel annoyed me with her insecurities in a few places, but I was happy how things worked out in the end. I definitely think Shelby’s life would make a great story so I hope we get a future book with her and Mel’s brother.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley well in advance of release. There were some major formatting issues in that copy that made reading difficult in certain places, but from glancing at the sample on Amazon those issues appear to have been fixed for the final publication.

Hat mich leider enttäuscht!

Kathas Meinung

I'll be honest, I didn't actually finish this book, but I think I read enough to give it a quick review. If you're looking for a fluffy, light, romance read then this is for you. For me, it was just a little bit too fluffy - the writing lacked something that I look for in every book but find hard to explain. That something which draws you in and gets you involved in the story was missing for me here, leaving me just reading words without fully enjoying them. There's nothing really wrong with the book, I just didn't click with it.

Blake likes to live dangerously, or just make it so Melanie has easy access to him at all times, "I drop the jeans to the floor. “You were commando at my parents’ house?” She sits up. “Such a naughty boy.” I loved Mel, she was so spunky, “no way. That’s cross-contamination and germ city. I’ll find other ways to help the environment.” She sighs and snuggles closer. “Mandatory dinner by candlelight. Sex with the lights off.” I really loved this book, Mel and Blake were perfect for each other.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Blake!!! Oh, and Mel's great, too, I guess. (LOL!) BUT BLAKE!! BLAKE BLAKE BLAKE!

But man oh man DID I MENTION BLAKE?

I think this book, more than any others Tamara Mataya has written, elicited the most emotion from me. I laughed, cried, warmed with pride... the whole nine. Oh, and I blushed like crazy at times. I really loved Blake and Mel's relationship and their easy connection.

And the sex. HOT F*CKING DAMN Mataya's sex scenes just keep getting better and better.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I do not think I will be picking up another until this author matures a bit in their writing style. While the plot line was decent, I am not a fan of the "I, he, she" writing style. It makes it hard to grab a readers attention when the characters are in this constant battle of "I, he, she."

Melanie was on vacation or suppose to be but answered her phone anyway. Melanie was HR but Thaddeus Mitchell the III and he always contacts Melanie even after work hours. . Thaddeus has been hired directly by Melanie's boss and has been a pain in Melanie’s butt for thirty one days since he had been hired. Melanie’s best friend is Berkley. Shelby and Melanie are to switch homes for three weeks. Melanie has a small cramped apartment where as Shelby lives in a spacious condo. The switch is about experiencing something new. Melanie was doing the most adventurous thing she had ever done. Melanie’s longest relationship had been seven months. After Melanie settled in some to Shelby’s place she decided to go to the beach and she ended up on the nude beach instead of the one she had intended to go to. Shawn is Melanie’s brother and he calls his best friend Blake who is just starting his two week vacation tells Blake how Melanie had traded homes. Blake was on his third year in his doctor of physical therapy at NYU. Blake loved message therapy but it is hard on the body. Melanie was the director of human resources at a magazine. After talking to Blake for a bit Shawn offers Blake a ticket to and from Miami if he will go check on Melanie. As Melanie didn’t do things like swap places for three weeks. . Blake shows up at the nude beach. Earlier that day Melanie finally gets the nerve to go topless at the nude beach and then Blake shows up o sleep with her brothers best friend there while Melanie was still topless. Bailey had sent Blake the address where Melanie was staying. The last time Blake and Melanie had seen each other was three months before. In N Y Melanie was too responsible and level headed But switched Melanie had a crush on Blake for ten years now and she wants to let Blake know. She had figured in N Y Blake just looked at her as Shawn’s little sister. Blake has problems keeping his hands off Melanie and how he seen her at the beach topless. Blake and Melanie becomes lovers.
I thought this was a cute story and really liked it. liked how Blake went ahead and went to Florida to make sure Melanie was okay. Once their chemistry is known to each other it was a no hold barred situation for Blake and Melanie in Miami. I like how Melanie decides outside her comfort zone more times than once. So all and all a good read and I liked the plot. I like the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

Review:

This was a fun, sexy romance.

It sort of reminds me of the movie "The Holiday" where they switch homes and lives. Whereas in the movie you get both sides of the switch in this you only get on side though the other is alluded to and you meet them. This story is lot sexier than the movie. And that is where my comparison ends.

Melanie goes against the grain in this one and tries to be a little adventurous and goes to Miami. I have to say when she ends up at the nude beach I was laughing to myself, it was a great. Then Melanie's brother sends his bestie, Blake to check on her during his vacation. When they meet on the nude beach I loved the tension and awkwardness. From that point on they are together constantly and sexiness ensues. There is great emotional elements to the story too, Melanie's freedom (for lack of a better word), her work drama and both Melanie's and Blake insecurities.

I have not read this Author before, but I found her writing and characters very engaging. This is the second book in the series, but as per usual for me I had not read the first yet. Still I did not miss anything and was at no time lost or confused. I hope the next book is about Shelby and Shawn, they have peaked my interest.

The last book - Missed Connections - had already paved the path for this one. I was looking forward to Blake and Melanie's story, but it turned out to be disappointing. Missed Connections was more fun and had a better plot. Summer Indiscretions seemed quite pointless at lots of times.

Summer Indiscretions has the potential to be something special. Melanie and Blake have a combustible energy that blends instant attraction and the insecurities of doubt to deliver a tempting foray into romance and the baggage that goes along with it. Following the heart, is a scary risk and I thought how Ms. Mataya presented a first person look into matters of the heart was original in delivery but at times lacked in feeling. The premise and the chemistry between Blake and Melanie are huge assets to this author's credit.
