Chased: Part Two

Rate this book
Being a twenty-one-year-old screw-up has its perks. I can sleepwalk through class, drink all day and nail anything that walks.

Easy f#$%*ing peasy.

Sure, I used to be the fastest guy at Fielding College. I’ve broken more track records than anyone on the West Coast. But my life as an athlete feels like a different universe. A different Chase Owens.

Since my world fell apart last year, all I want is to be left the hell alone.

Ariel Hastings isn't just a wrench in that plan, she’s a bomb. The quiet girl shows up out of nowhere and suddenly our fates are tied together. She wants to run with me, learn from me, even live with me…

Basically everything but f*ck me.

Now I’m spending too much time around her. I’m craving something she won’t give me and I sure as hell can’t ask for.

Because we’ve both got pasts that aren’t ready to let go. Even if I can survive hers, I know we can’t outrun mine.

CHASED includes 2 parts (approx 35k words each) with an HEA. It’s 2 POV mostly male with f-bombs and steamy scenes. For 18+ (less)

Review for Part 1 and Part 2

When I requested this book from NetGalley I wasn’t 100% sure that it would feature part 1 and 2 but good thing it did because I don’t if I could wait for Part 2. My biggest problem when books are split like this is that most of the times there is no reason to stop, it could be one book only, but then we have to wait months for Part 2 (believe me, it already happened to me once. Also, I loved Part 2 way more than 1, and both complemented each other pretty well, but if I didn’t had both parts my rating would be lower.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Ariel might look like a really shy person but she still stands for herself and fights for what she wants. Chase was a complex character and while he might look like a jerk at first he really cares about the people he loves. Both of them had difficult things happening to them in their past but it was worst for Chase and his past is the main reason he is like he is. Their relationship development was pretty amazing too. I love how they started as friends and trying to help each other reaching their objectives and only then it developed something more. I also liked to see them finding stuff about each other a lot. This is one of that books when you actually see the main characters talking about a lot of things.

Part 2 of this book really surprised me because I wasn’t expecting it to take a dark turn but I loved it anyway and it was something that help the characters development a little bit more. Another thing I loved was the writing and the dual POV. My only big problem is that in the beginning the introduction of the characters was too fast. I would love if the first chapters were a little bit slower.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. If you love new adult romances with some dark twists you should give this one a try (but get both parts at the same time so you don’t have to wait to read everything :D ).

description

First of all let me just say that I’m glad that Netgalley provided both parts of this book, because I would have been seriously pissed if I had only gotten the first one. Mostly because each book by itself is clearly not complete, but also part 2 is way better in terms of plot and story.

I really appreciated the writing, even though the book starts a bit fast and jumps right into the story, without easing into it, the writing is compelling, and it had me on the edge of my seat. Also, the steamy hot scenes? So very good!

I ended up really liking the characters. Both Chase and Ariel are deep complex characters, and even though the story goes deeper into Chase’s story, Ariel still has a lot of layers. It was awesome to see them discovering stuff about each other, and falling in love. Even though there’s an instant attraction, there isn’t instalove, which I really appreciated. Also, the little drama about doubts about their feelings is almost non-existent.

There’s definitly a lot of action and a lot going on in this book. It got me hooked! It’s definitly a bit more than just a NA romance, so I would definitly recommend it. But be sure to get both parts

*I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Part 2 picked up from where part 1 left off. The plot kept me hooked. The relationship between Chase and Ariel are more explored in this part which I loved. Some family aspects were put into the mix as well which played an important part later, nonetheless I ended up loving Drew, Chase's small brother. All the side characters were pretty amazing as well. The mystery part was handled really well and I loved how everything was executed.

Overall, Chased was a fantastic read! Piper's books keeps getting better and better, she's definitely an author to watch out for! The plot was neatly executed and the I loved the characters. I also loved the undeniable chemistry between Chase and Ariel! The writing was smooth and easy to read and it was fast paced throughout both the parts. I really enjoyed reading this one!

Recommend it?

Yes!

ARC received by author

This continues Chase and Ariel's story. Chase starts to open up more, but worries Ariel will see things he is not comfortable with and run from him. As his life gets more complicated, will it be Chase who runs? This part has them running for more than the track team - they are running for life, family, love! Chased is a great new adult series that should not be missed. I just wished it was longer. I'm hoping Piper gives us stories of their friends with Chase and Ariel included.

***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion***

The second part of the story brings us back to Chase and Ari and now that they know each other a bit better we get a different kind of story.
In part one they were getting to know and like each other. Now they get to learn more about each other and decide if they can be together.

And on top of that, Chase's past is back to haunt him. I wish there was a bit more about it, though.
I thought the whole thing with his father was a bit confusing for my tastes.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

What a great ending to this story. I loved the whole thing and really got invested in Chase's issues that he was dealing with. And I loved how loyal and determined Ariel was. You can tell that these two were meant to be and I was there for every minute. Seeing Ariel with Drew was sweet and I really enjoyed how much he opened up to her about his likes and passions.

This was a hidden gem that I, for some reason, wasn't expecting to like as much, so I'm really glad I got the chance to read it and discover this!

Part 2 was better than Part 1 ...

For this true romantic at heart, it never sits well to start a romance book with the leading man having graphic sexcapades with anyone other than the leading lady, especially after meeting/being attracted to the heroine. After all, I read romance for the main couple to be together, not to see the heroine on the sidelines having to witness that type of scenario. It is even moreso irritating when said hero is obviously just using the other woman, no plans of ever having a meaningful relationship with her. Especially after the hero kisses the heroine and invites her to stay in his absent roommate’s bedroom while they train cross-country together. Yeah, I think you’ve likely picked up on that’s how Part 1 begins. There is always where I should admit it made me not like Chase’s character in the very beginning.

Finally, Ashley is out of the picture, and it is just Chase and Ariel. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t take long for them to start giving into their attraction. With some witty banter, interesting sub-characters (mainly Tor and Amos), and surprising twists and turns resulting from Chase’s past, this new adult sports themed romance does stay engaging, except for the occasional too numerous steamy scenes with lusty language that hijack the storyline. I guess you could say they were making up for lost time due to Ashley’s unnecessary, unwanted presence in the very beginning. I could have almost lived without Ariel’s father’s surprise visit while Chase was at her apartment. That just seemed, well, wrong. Wish I could wipe that image away and pretend it never happened.

Since I received an ARC that contained Part 1 and 2, I read them back to back. Naturally, Part 1 ends with a cliffhanger, so I was fortunate I could immediately jump into Part 2. It concludes with Chase having to confront his past and his abusive, criminal father.

Overall, I’m a little at a loss on how to rate this book. Mainly because I can’t shake the feeling it seemed like a collage of other books I’ve read in the romance genre, except the hero is usually a MMA fighter, not a college track athlete. Here’s to hoping it won’t feel the same to you.

Title: Chased: Part 1: Pages 130, Part 2: Pages: 150, Author: Piper Lawson, not a stand-alone, lots of VERY graphic steamy scenes with lusty language that sometimes hijack the storyline, subplot involving hero’s abusive past/father, some violence, eventual HEA.

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Having read Chased Part 1, I couldn't wait to get back on the track with Chase and Ariel. Piper Lawson brings us into the race again with even more sexiness and mystery this time around. Now that Ariel and Chase are back on the team and can't stay away from one another, things have become more intense and complicated. Ariel and Chase are heading for the finish line of a Happy Ever After, but they have plenty of obstacles in their way that could not only sever their relationship but also end lives.

Having learned more about Chase's abusive past, imprisoned father, and strained relationships with his mom and younger brother, I couldn't help but be pulled into the mystery that surrounds this young man who wears battle scars on his back and race wins tattooed on his chest. Underneath that cocky attitude and a lean muscled runners body lays a scared little boy who is terrified of what his father could still do to harm his family and has always been prepared to run to protect them. That is until Ariel became a part of the picture and stole his heart. Now when things get dangerous, can he trust himself to pick up and run and leave her behind?

Ariel Hastings is a good little girl who has always lived in her famous dead mother's shadow, and under her over protective father's thumb. Now being on the track team and running into Chase's arms are the only things that make her feel happy and free. When danger and Chase himself threaten that happiness, she must decide what is near and dear to her heart and fight for it. Ariel shows more spunk in this part of her and Chase's story. She won't let anyone define who she is or determine what is best for her and she will prove it at all costs.

Piper Lawson delivers a romance with a heart stopping ending that has us cheering from the stands for Chase and Ariel to cross over the finish line and win it all. I highly recommend for a romance with a whole lot of adrenaline pumping action both in the bedroom and on the track. Be prepared to finish this race winded, flushed, and in love with a new hero and heroine.

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Part 2 does a great job of building on the momentum of Part 1.

This one has more drama and it's of the slightly over-the-top variety. It's still very feasible drama but it isn't your typical, everyday New Adult drama. It makes things more suspenseful when it comes to the plot. And the romance is there from start to finish but it is more of an underlying element.

Whereas Part 1 focuses on the character development, Part 2 puts the characters to the test with the drama and it intrigued me to see how everything would play out.

A solid follow-up and a great way to wrap up these two's story.

ARC received directly from author

I read Chased Part 1 in one sitting. A combination of new adult, running and romance? Sign me up. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review the second part of the story.

What I Liked:
- The relationship progression. I enjoyed how the emotional relationship took some time to develop and it wasn't an "all in love" at first sight. This continues in Part 2.
- The sexy times. The sexy times were indeed very sexy.
- The running. Loved the backdrop of the college track team as a setting for the relationship, which brings me to...
- The writing. Piper has an engaging writing style that always makes me want to turn to the next page and not put the kindle down.

What I Didn't Like:
- The central conflict. I won't give too much away, but the drama that dominates the last part of the book wasn't particularly my cup of tea. It was extremely well written and paced fine, but I would have rather the conflict been brought more into their college universe.
- The double POV. I feel like these only work when each character is given an equal POV voice. It felt a little lopsided in Chased.

Bottom Line:
Piper Lawson always writes fun, well-written contemporary romance. Though this is a bit more on the dramatic side, it's still worth a read!

Chased Part 2 starts from where the first part ends.

If you've read the first part already, you know this is the story of Chase & Ariel.

Chase has a past and it has come back to haunt him - his dad who has always controlled him, has found a way to do it again through Ariel. So, what will Chase do now? Will he give up? Is their bond strong enough and can they fight back together? Will they finally get their HEA?

Their love is put to test - do they emerge successfully? Read their intriguing, emotional and heartwarming journey. Good conclusion to the story of Chase and Ariel.

While I would have liked more damage to Chase's father ... I think they did what they could do for their age. Also, it was disappointing to see that Chase's mother hasn't learnt anything and was ready to put both Chase and his brother through hell again! Shows her apologies meant nothing! There was no remorse when she hurt Ariel and I would liked for Chase to have shown her the door and kept her away from his life! But guess he did not do that because of his brother.

**I read the boxed series with both parts.

Chased is a steamy, dramatic and a little over-the-top story about two college athletes from different worlds. Ariel wants her spot on the team back. Chase is looking for redemption. Throw them together and what do you get? Fights, sparks, and a whole lot of endurance jokes.

If you've read my Travesty stuff, Chased is more angsty and has some suspense thrown in. BUT, it still has some fun and steamy moments (because, let's be honest, that's why I love to write :))

Part 2 is a continuation of Part 1 - so read that first!!

Read a fun excerpt!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest review. My reviews are always spoiler free.

The story of Chase and Ariel continues. The connection between the two is electric. They both bring the best out of each other and they both grow. Ariel still has family issues, as much as Chase but in different ways. I really did laugh out loud at the meeting between Ariel's father and Chase!

Chase's family history starts to creep into his present life and it starts to get very worrying for him. There are a few good twists to the story that put pressure on Chase and cause worry for Ariel. Will it work out they way he imagines or will his hopes and dreams come through?

A good continuation to the story which keeps you guessing.

If you read Chased 1, you KNOW that you're going to want to read Chased 2. And if you haven't read 1 yet....you're missing out on a great read!! In Chased 1 Ariel & Chase forge a tenuous relationship that is based on needing each other to get on the school track team. I love the fact that the end of part 1 didn't just stop mid story. But there was definitely more to the story and there were questions you just NEED to know the answers to ... And Chased 2 provides those answers. I love the character development in Piper's books. I really feel like the more I read, the more I get to know the characters, and become invested in their story. The storytelling will capture you and make it hard to put the book down without finishing it. Fantastic conclusion to Chased 1.

I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.

I really enjoyed part 2, it was intense sexy and hot.

Ariel and Chase learn a lot about each other and not just sexually. Their relationship steadily develops as do their feelings for one another.

The book gives both of their perspectives which was great. My favourite part was when Ariel is giving Chase a blow job and her dad walks in - talk about awkward and embarrassing but yet funny as hell. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I was grateful I was provided with both part 1 & 2 because I read it all in one go. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I was eager to read this book. Lawson writes very well so I'll pretty much read anything she writes-- and I enjoyed the first half. This second half didn't disappoint, though I'm not a huge fan of over-the-top plots with violent crime involved. But that's the thing about a really good writer: she can distract you from the parts you don't like as much and win you over with what she does well. That's how I felt about this whole series because there were things I didn't like about Chase, but they were set off by how much I liked Ariel, etc etc. And the college track setting is a breath of fresh air (literally!) Definitely worth a read.

Chased the second book is even better than the first one. This one is full of suspense unpredictable events. In these we see how quickly Chase transforms from boy in to man. Takes responsibility for his actions and tries to make better life for everyone he loves. Her we see how Ari’s emotional are strong for Chase because she stays by him when it gets tough and she has faith in him even when he lose it. I loved the end and the whole book.

The chemistry between Chase and Ariel is electric. Ariel is the first person to truly see Chase, that there is so much more than his tough guy exterior. Chase is also the one person that let’s Ariel be herself, no guilt, expectations, just love. With Chase’s encouragement, Ariel faces her demons and embraces her dreams. As Chase’s past starts to close in, can he find a way to protect his family and Ariel? Or will he push Ariel away? Can Ariel help Chase see that there are other choices?
