This short book is, in my judgment, an excellent description of the cuneiform tablets, papyrus sheets, parchment skins which were used Before Christ to write and preserve religious, legal, administrative acts in the Middle East countries, e.g. Egypt, Sumaria, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Greece, and Turkey.
When I gave a course at Stanford University about 1971, listed as a Senior Colloquium for advanced students, this would have been required reading for the scope, detail, clarity, and authenticity of the author. It is enhanced by many colored illustrations of manuscripts found in Qumran and other locations.
Quite a good book, quick read (75 pgs, ~1/3 photos). It's very interested in the materiality of the past but also pays due attention to the contents of the texts themselves. Found it valuable even knowing a fair bit about the nature of ancient texts.
