Informal Romance #3

An Informal Introduction

Rate this book
She saves lives. He protects them. And someone's trying to stop them both.

Lily Ziminski is an ICU nurse near the nation's capital where politics are a regular part of hospital policy. Assigned a series of high-profile patients, she finds herself an unwilling focus of the media. Lily would much rather do without all the attention...except where one cowboy-hat-wearing state trooper is concerned.

Caleb Graham runs into the same captivating nurse twice in one day, and he's not a man who believes in coincidence. When problems at a local impound lot force him into the middle of a bizarre case that threatens Lily, Caleb will stop at nothing to protect her.

From a stranger in a parking garage to Secret Service agents, surprise chases Lily around every corner. In the midst of the chaos, she has two constants - her longtime faith in God, and her growing attraction for a silver-eyed trooper.

Heather loves coffee, God, her family, and laughter – not necessarily in that order! She writes approachable characters who, through the highs and lows of life, find a way to love God, embrace each day, and laugh out loud right along with her. And, yeah, her books almost always have someone who's a coffee addict. Some things just can't be helped.

Despite being born into different eras, Heather's characters share a common trait. Like her, they're all flawed...but loved anyway.

When state trooper Caleb first meets ER nurse Lily, he leaves a bad first impression. Later in the day when he meets her for the second time, he leaves an even worse second impression. Good thing Caleb isn't someone who gives up easily...

This was a cute story with very likable characters and a little danger mixed in!

Content: Clean
Notes: Christian Fiction so religious elements throughout the book

An Informal Introduction is a great romantic read. Here's what I loved about it...the ending!!

The ending has to be one of the best endings I have ever read. The scene was fantastic until the last page and last word. So why was it such a great ending?

Lily is an ICU nurse. She fills her days keeping people alive. Enter handsome state trooper, Caleb. Caleb spends his day tracking down bad guys and saving citizens. I absolutely loved how they met. I won't give it away but it. Was. AWESOME!!

As if that wasn't a great enough hook, sparks, intrigue, love-at-first-sight (or is it 2nd sight?), and Christian loving folks top it off. Ms. Gray is a phenomenal writer. Not because she writes Christian novels for those who love all things Christian, but because she pulls you into the story and makes you feel like you're apart of the action.

This was a fun, contemporary romance with just a touch of intrigue. I loved the opening scene of the book where Lily meets Caleb. It drew me in right away and I loved how it made their second meeting sparky. :)

Lily and Caleb are both great characters. It was easy to get a sense of who they were and what made them tick. I was especially drawn in by Caleb. He is determined and strong. He goes after what he wants. The cast of secondary characters were good as well and while there were many of them, I never felt overwhelmed or confused.

I enjoyed this book. It was a fun escape and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. This isn't the first book in this series, it's the third. I guess I have some back reading to do!

Content: Clean. Christian Fiction

A fun romance by a new (to me) author. I thoroughly enjoyed An Informal Introduction. Lily, an ICU nurse, is pulled over by a State Trooper one night on her way to work for suspected driving under the influence. Only problem is that she was just trying to avoid the potholes! As she rushes to work, late because of being pulled over, she once again meets the handsome State Trooper--twice in one day--coincidence? Caleb doesn't believe in coincidences. As Lily attends to other patients, her tender care and faith in God become evident. Caleb doesn't really need a matchmaker, but his mother and her friends push matters along anyway.
I enjoyed the care and thoughtfulness Caleb extends to Lily. Will he have patience too? A great sweet romance with some suspense and comedy that I highly recommend.

Awesome story

A great story full of caring & ending with suspense. Are the crimes connected? Who's the assassin? Who originally stole the car? Is the police chief involved in a crime? Lots of questions with some answers in the last chapter.
This story is well written & engaging from beginning to end.

Current Day
Somewhere in the DC area

Main characters:
Lily Ziminski: ICU nurse
Caleb Graham: Investigator with the Attorney General's office, acting as a state police officer
Agent Whitehall: Secret Service

I have had this book in my "To Read" list for several years. As soon as I joined Kindle Unlimited, it was one of the books I chose to checkout. And it was worth the wait.

From the first few scenes were Lily was pulled over by Caleb (state patrolman), to her ending up as his mother’s nurse in the hospital later that day, their friendship and interplay were so entertaining.

He’d been praying about a wife for many years but God hadn’t shown him the woman he was to marry before. And how this new call from God played out was fascinating. I love Lily's attraction to Caleb, but also her hesitance.

"... my equilibrium gets wonky when you’re around! My emotions become so loud they drown out God. Being around you feels good, but I’m afraid if I make decisions based on what I’m feeling, I’ll end up making bad ones. I need to know I’m making the choice God wants for me.”

Ms. Gray has such a way with words….intelligent and witty. Although this could be considered a drama, there were laugh-out-loud thoughts or dialogue. A Secret Service agent who had come to appreciate Caleb's no nonsense police ethic was finishing up a phone call with him while Caleb was pulling protection duty for Lily…

“Sure. Now go get some sleep. Or eat some popcorn. Do something besides yakking my ear off all night.”
Caleb disconnected the call and removed his hat long enough to run a hand through his hair. If he wasn’t careful, Whitehall would be buying them BFF bracelets to wear.
".

Or later, another phone call…

“This is Caleb.”
“Whitehall here. Any developments on your end?”
“I’m liaising, but that seems to be FBI talk for fetching coffee.
“Please tell me you didn’t actually fetch it?”
He snickered. “I, uh, brought them all empty cups with a map to the coffee machine.
".

I don’t often giggle while reading books, but this one, although not meant to be a comedy had some really fun scenes. Also, suspense.

My only wince was whenever the term sexy or sex appeal was mentioned while Lily was thinking about Caleb. Sixteen times! Yeah, that bothered me, and if she hadn’t been so leery of taking things too fast, or being careful with any physical contact, I would have been more bothered by it.

Anyway, good, romantic contemporary fiction book, which is not my norm. But I liked it!

I haven't read the other books in the series and I wasn't lost--these can stand alone.

This story starts out with a bang, as a first meeting goes awry, but that first meeting makes the second meeting all the better. My attention was immediately captured and I found myself drawn into a story with a bit of mystery and suspense, as well as a darling romance.

Lily is an ICU nurse and a really good one. I really liked watching her at work. Her bedside manner and professionalism is admirable, yet she really connects with her patients. Because of this, she is assigned to a couple of high-profile cases that leave her in a bit of danger. If I ever need a nurse, I hope to have one as good as Lily.

Caleb is a hard-working Southern cop, who has just moved to Virginia to help his mother. She's such a sweet, meddling busybody and he's very methodical and adorable. When he decides to go for something, he jumps all in. It took me awhile to figure him out. He claims to be a very patient, easy going, and slow moving man, yet when it comes to Lily, he can't move fast enough and that scares her off. I guess he's both extremes.

The meat of the story is pretty good. The mystery/suspense angle is just enough to engage the reader, but not enough to overpower the romantic element, which is gradual. I enjoy Christian fiction because I know the books will be clean, but I sometimes feel a little bogged down with every word of their prayers written out and this happens on several occasions. I like when characters have faith and rely on God, but I believe that we all worship and pray differently and that's something more personal. All in all, this is a good, clean story that is very enjoyable.

Content: moderate religious elements; mild romance; mild violence, moments of peril. Clean.

Review on 1st three books in the series.

I absolutely LOVED these books!! They are well written and draw you in emotionally to the characters lives and what they are going through. Although each book can be read as a stand alone, you'll not want to miss the other books in the series!

This author has a good sense of humor and you will find yourself chuckling at the humorous things that the characters say or do. I love a book that not only gets to you emotionally but also makes you laugh. All three books have a medical background that I enjoyed although there is some medical jargon that I had to skim over because it didn't mean anything to me. :) The author also did a great job with the Christian aspect, in my opinion. Without being preachy, each book had some deep insight and moments of drawing back to God that I thought had some really good points. Last but not least, I really enjoyed the romances in these books. They all moved at a steady pace and didn't feel hurried or unrealistic. There were humorous moments, uncertain moments, lonely moments, and tender love moments. These are great romances that are an easy but captivating read that will warm your heart and feed your soul. :)

*Thanks to SLB Tours and the author for a complimentary copy of these books for review purposes. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions stated are my own.*

I am always happy to find a new author in my favorite genre. I stumbled across Heather Gray in the kindle store this week and I really enjoyed this story. If you are a fan of Christian romantic suspense, you'll want to read her books because there us suoense and clean romance in spades! I also love the medical angle. Lily is an ICU nurse who is assigned to a couple of high profile patients. Caleb and she meet... I can't tell you how... and thrn again when his mom is one of Lily's patients for a couple days. There is humor in the story that lightens up an otherwise fast paced, intense story.

The plot is great, the characters solid, and you don't have to read the books in any particular order. One thing that bothered me somewhat though is that there is too much dialogue on both their parts about the relationship. They both seriously needed to take a deeo breath and chill. Other than that the story flows quickly and smoothly. The ending was only mostly satisifactory in that I was left with with a couple minor why's that felt unanswered and the ending scene was, in a word, silly. But overall things wrapped up as they should. It could have used maybe another short chapter.

If you are a fan of Candace Calvert definitely check this seres out. You'll love it.

Light-hearted fun book with a little substance

I really liked the characters, Lily and Caleb. They had great chemistry just in their dialogue even. I liked that it was an easy, quick read. I've read Ms Gray's historical books and loved them, so I enjoyed the change up to a more fun contemporary style. A good clean read with God mentioned often but it's not a major storyline.

Meeting Agent Whitehall and 'Mr Taylor' makes me want to read more about them. I did get confused at one point, although I may have misread it, Lily's internal monologue leads the reader to think that Mr Taylor is older and married, but he's not. Like I said, I may have misread it, but I got confused.

What I loved best about the book was how Caleb is a forceful personality and Lily struggled to not be overshadowed, in fact, wouldn't let herself be and how the author handled this very real issue in our lives. Some people do have forceful personalities. I would've like to see more working that out in the end of the book, however. I was left feeling like the situation wasn't resolved in a way that was healthy for both characters, and that the issue will only continue to come up in the future.

I must say this is a different book than what I'm used to.
I like it because its action packed and it even has a bit of mystery. I love the characters. Especially Caleb and Lily. I really enjoyed getting to know them.
I like a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. Li!y has a sweet personality a and I love her bedside manners as a nurse. She has always known why she has wanted out of life and stuck with her as a child and as she was growing up.
Caleb also knew what he wanted out of even as as he was growing up.
I admire these two wonderful people that have the Lord in their life!
Sometimes we get so busy with our lives that we tend to shut God out of our lives and when things go wrong we tend to blame Him.
Bottom line is God has a p!an for each and every one of us. Without Him we are nothing.
I'm loving Caleb's mom and I believe shed be a wonderful Grandma and mother in law to Lily.

Lily Ziminski was pulled over by Virginia State Trooper Caleb Graham for drunk driving. When she pass all the sobriety field tests he was puzzled as to why she was weaving all over the road. When explained it was to dodge all the pot holes he let her off with a warning. She didn't think she would be seeing him again and he was hoping he would have a chance to pull her over again. Their paths crossed again when his mother was admitted to the ICU where Lily works. The attraction between them is noticed by Caleb's mother who instantly sets upon matchmaking. Caleb feels he has found the woman that God has chosen for him as a wife. Lily takes things a bit more slowly. The romantic relationship is overlapped with things that happen on their jobs that as well. This is a Christian romance book with a little bit of suspense built into it. The story had me smiling through a lot of it but also had my heart racing when some dangerous elements enter into it

A surprising 3 stars for me since I usually don't like a lot of discussion of religion in my romances. This author was very good on the slow burn romance and a nice change of pace from the books I usually read. I liked the chemistry between the two of them, but the instalove storyline just doesn't usually work for me.

However, it was very heavy on the nursing... in fact a little too detailed for me. Also, I am not religious so the amount of prayers and discussions of God and Jesus were too heavy handed for me. I was not a fan of Lily needing to know what God wanted for her rather than listening to her own feelings and knowing that, just perhaps, God put those feelings there too. Finally, there was no "I love you" declaration AT ALL which I feel is critical in romances.

The suspense portion was woven into the romance quite well, until the end, when we never really find out the consequences -- who hired the assassin? What about the captain's brother-in-law who's dirty?

Lily's assignment to two high-profile patients complicates her life outside the hospital, putting her in the media spotlight and in danger. Caleb has his own work drama to wade through and he does everything he can to keep Lily safe.

Lily and Caleb both have a strong faith and acknowledge the powerful attraction between them. Amidst all the drama and suspense, Caleb's mama provides some comedic relief with a backyard shindig and not so subtle matchmaker schemes for her son and her favorite nurse. This story has a little bit of something for everyone!

This is a suspenseful book that kept me reading the book in one setting.
Lily, an ICU nurse is drawn into a high profile case, taking care of a patient.
Caleb, a state trooper, son of a former patient is also drawn into the case.
In the process Lily and Caleb form an attraction.
The bible verse for the book... all things God works for the good of those who love him..is very appropriate.
The characters were believable and the storyline is well crafted .
Heather Gray portrays the inner workings of an ICU very well.
Thanks for the opportunity to get an advance copy and I give my honest review.

This is another good one from this author. This is a wonderful combination of faith, romance and suspense that kept me reading to see what was going to happen next. Following Lily, an emergency room nurse, and Caleb, a highway patrolman, and their involvement in a bizarre case threatening Lily's life, and also as they discover their personal feelings for each other made for a read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and it is another one from this author that I definitely recommend.
