Spring Rose Bay #1

Found by You

You can be the strongest amongst many but it only takes one person to break you. Each year I end it thinking a change is going to come. It had to come.

Only the last eight years I've clearly offended the devil somehow as he’s decided to pile some form of crap on my shoulders since the year I turned eighteen. Loss, betrayal, fears - I have been through it all. Life can change in an instance, ripping out your heart and soul and leaving you the shell of the person you once were. A shell that simply cannot be fixed.

After years of suffering from the loss of her mother and the betrayal of two men, Amelia thought she was damaged for life. Ruled by anxieties and self-help remedies of Tequila chasers with her best friend, Amelia settled into her new life at the coast and a job she loved.

Men were never again on her radar. They hurt her in every possible way. That was until she found herself in the arms of a stranger. His generosity was foreign to her; his ability to make her trust was overwhelming. Finally, as her life took a turn for the better, Amelia could see a future and a possibility of a happy ending she so desperately craved. However, like her past, everything changes in an instant, and how would she survive if it should come crashing down around her.

KLJ lives in South West England just on the edge of Dartmoor where the moorland goes on for days. It's beautiful, breath-taking and occasionally rather wet. She probably swears way more than she should, her mum makes the best cupcakes in history, and she goes weak at the knees for a man with a five o'clock shadow.

Oh how I LOVED this story!! This was an absolutely brilliant read and one I thoroughly enjoyed...

This is book 1 in the Spring Rose series from KL Jessop. I actually read this after reading book 2, and it didn't affect anything for me personally, as the books are written brilliantly as complete standalones, even though there are obvious connections between the books and the characters. Having read book 2 already, just made me even more excited to get my hands on this one and finally dive into Amelia and Marcus' story.

In this book we meet Amelia, who is the assistant manager of The Grand, a seven star hotel on the Cornish Coast. She lives for work, and throws herself into her job, whilst also finding time to have fun with her best friend Amelia - these two must have shares in Tequila!!

Amelia is sworn off relationships, and as we read the book we get a clear understanding of why and the reasoning's behind her low self-esteem, and lack of confidence at times.

Having said that, although Amelia is full of fears and insecurities, she actually on the whole copes extremely well, and is filled with an element of strength and determination. The support she gets from Megan and Lucas plays a huge part in that.

When Marcus is thrown into her life, the connection between them is undeniable. But with neither of them looking for anything close to a relationship, where will things go? Can they move past both of their fears and pasts, especially if those come back to haunt them?

The connection between the characters was superb, with off the charts chemistry and some wonderful hot and steamy moments!

The story line itself is extremely moving and gave me all the feels. It was incredibly emotional and rather heart-breaking at times, with some moving images of Amelia's past. Marcus himself is not without his own hurts, and this story did a great job of revealing everything, keeping things moving at a good pace.

For me things slowed down a little midway, but not necessarily in a bad way, and soon picked up again. By the last 40% I could not put it down and devoured the second half in one sitting! Wow, there was some brilliant action, revelations and some real suspense which kept the pages turning and wanting to find out exactly what would happen.

I absolutely ADORE the friendship between Megan and Amelia. They have such a wonderful connection and friendship which has stemmed from years of support for one another. Along with Megan's brother Lucas there are some superb secondary characters. And I can't not mention Rosa, Marcus' Mum - she is an absolutely brilliant woman, bringing a lot of humour and sensible reasoning to the story!

With laugh out loud moments, emotion, heat, passion, friendships, romance, twists and turns, lies and betrayals... this book really does have a little bit of everything!

I would highly recommend to all, and will definitely be adding this one to my paperback bookshelf...

Loved it! I was so captivated by this book. I kept thinking is it gonna end so I hope not! I was so glad it was the length it was. You know when you read a book and you wish die it ended too soon well don't get me wrong I would still love more of this story but it was perfect for me. This story does it a very sensitive subject so be ready or don't read if you can't handle. Many people can't handle write or persue exposure to this issue. It was very brace and I applause her for this. So here we have Amelia who has been through so much in her life do far. It's been so unfair. She has closed herself off so much that she has stopped living/ stopped living and just exists. She has the greatest best friend in the world, Megan. Along with her brother Lucas they are all she has left to be here for. Along comes Marcus who feels this automatic attraction, need to protect and care for her. She behind to consume his life. He needed to relax from his broken life so these feelings have thrown him completely into a 180. Can he show her life is worth it? Well, I'll just say that maybe he can do it while showing his own heart the same without realizing it. It really is a great love story. I couldn't put it down!!! No cliffhanger and it technically had no cheating and a HEA. I read this book voluntarily for and honest review but would totally buy fir my collection. I can't wait to read more from this author. I'm gonna pick up the next book in this series as soon as I can . Enjoy!!!

The story is amazing. I laughed I cried and felt the heartache Amelia felt. The story is really amazing and just shows people don’t know what can happen behind closed doors until it can be too late. Amelia story is so amazing and can be heartbreaking. It shows how things in life happen for a reason and what doesn’t kill us can make us stronger. Marcus and Amelia are great characters and I like how the chapters are from different perspectives. Amazing

Wow is the best word I can come up with for this book. The story between Marcus and Amelia is what live should be. Patient, caring, and all consuming. Marcus is a good man and gives Amrlia just what she needs to heal from the abuse that she had to endure. I did want to smack him near the end but he redeemed himself. This book may have some triggers for some. But it is very worth the read. It is the first book by this author I have read but will not be the last

Such a great book! I loved it!! Poor Amelia suffered so much it broke my heart. But with the help of great friends like Megan,Lucas & Andrew, the love of Marcus. She learned not only what real love was like, but to also love her self.
To know that not everyone is an abusive bastard like her ex Daniel. Or as unforgiving as her dad. And Rosa who turned out to be like a second mom to her. I can't wait to read the second book in the series. I received this arc for an honest review.

This was a wonderful introduction to this series and one I'm looking forward to reading more of.

Amelia is sworn off relationships and, well, life outside of work. Beaten down physically and emotionally in the past, it is her way of protecting herself. Lacking in confidence and self-esteem she throws herself into work where she can be confident. When Marcus enters the scene, he is drawn to Amelia and it is his patience and showing her she is special that breaks down her walls and she starts to shine. The past, however, has the ability to strike back when least expected and could undo everything Amelia has built.

This was a sweet and sexy read with lots of tension along the way. These characters drew you into their story and captivated you with their strength of character. I loved their story and the way they overcome the many obstacles along the way. The amazing setting was a bonus! I'm looking forward to seeing what this series brings next.

Romantically, sweet and sexy.

Wow! This is a fantastic introduction to this series and I can't wait for further books.
Romantic, sweet and sexy. I loved all of the characters and the way they all worked together. Lost of twists and turns, feel good romantic relationship with some heart wrenching moments. Just remember to have tissues at the ready. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. I loved the setting. Loss, betrayal and fears; Amelia battled through life and finally met the man to change everything. I'm certainly looking forward to other books from this author.

LOVE THIS BOOK!
This was my first book by this author and it didn't disappoint. It had all the feels! From sweet sexy sense to heart-stopping moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. The emotion behind the story and the issues Amelia had to overcome tugged at my heart, and I fell in love with every character.
I really like the fact it was written from both characters point of view and I can't wait to see what comes next from this author.
I loved it!

This brilliant first book by such a young, talented writer brings these characters to life in a new relatable way with twists and turns at every page. The incorporation of a domestic violence issue and the emotional disfunction the issue brings to the victim is surprisingly well written and truthful. Very impressive!

This is the first book of Kate’s that I have read and it won’t be the last as I absolutely loved this book. It has taken me some time to write the review as I wanted to do the book justice and each time I thought about what to write it didn’t seem right.

The book follows Amelia who has had a rather tragic past and so has sworn off all extra curricula activities with men and friends except her “family” which consists of her best friend Megan and her best friend’s brother Lucas. That is until she meets Marcus; dashing, irresistible, perfect Marcus. *cue swooning*

Marcus has had his own fair share of heartbreak in his past and so being a “player” suits him to a T, until a redhead needs rescuing in his club. From that moment on he soon realises that there is something incredibly special about Amelia but she has walls of stone which are reinforced with lead around her heart and it is going to take some real patience and true acts of love to break them down and make her shine.

But just as things seem to be going well for them, both Amelia and Marcus’ pasts start to worm their way into their budding relationship and as old feelings begin to occur, can the two really learn to combat their demons?

This book has a brilliant story, some true laugh out loud moments between Amelia and Megan and the characters have a real depth and complexity about them but I couldn’t give it 5 stars as there are a rather large amount of grammatical errors woven into it. The story did manage to win out over the errors but I did have to add in words in quite a few sentences and ignore the fliting from past tense to present tense. With a good editor this book could be amazing and despite this it doesn’t stop me from wanting to read the second book in the series which I hope will follow Amelia’s best friend Megan and her work colleague Andrew as the snippets about them in this book make for an interesting read.

This book had such great potential. Good storyline covering betrayal and domestic abuse with likeable characters both primary and secondary - I absolutely loved Rosa!

I did feel that the story was dragged out somewhat and I eventually started to skim read it from around 55%. But this was mainly due to the abundance of grammatical and spelling errors. The phrases 'could of' and 'hadn't of' instead of 'could have' and 'hadn't have' were used more than once and there were a lot of words either missing from sentences or incorrectly spelled/used....passed instead of past, woman instead of women, site instead of sight, chandleries instead of chandeliers. Also, the author seems to flit between past and present tense in the same sentence:

I pick (present) up the phone and dialled (past) the number.
Her grin was (past) a mile wide as she crinkles (present) her nose up.
I pressed (past) auto-repeat on the stereo, turned (past) the volume up full to drown out the agony of my despair and throw (present) the remote across the room.

With a good editor this book could have been so much more enjoyable to read and I hope the author is able to find a good proof reader/editor for future books as her story shows a lot of promise.
