I was delighted to find such a rad book of poems at the public library. This collection is pretty great imo as I enjoyed Ruth's very unique perspectives. The poems are not all obviously inspired by Lizzie and that era, but a good chunk of them are and the others could certainly be, at their core. The title poem is brilliant and some of my other faves are 'The Marriage Wig', 'Digging', 'Persephone Travels Back to Hell, as Arranged', 'Meditation', 'The Witch of The Wave'. This overlooked 70's gem is very much recommended.
"The center of the earth is always boiling, and she must have the trick of eye to see how she can liquefy stones, trees, slash air so she can breathe, take life to make life, break the blind wall open with her fist'"
-from the title poem 'The Passion of Lizzie Borden'.
