Being forced into an arranged mating is the last thing Leo needs, especially when he knows it will end horribly and he’s already falling for another man.

Leo, a cheetah shifter, knows he will be married off to a man of his parents’ choosing. He won’t have any choice in the matter. When his father informs him Antonio will be his mate, he doesn’t exactly like the man, but is determined to make the best of it. Knowing he’ll be cut out of the life he’s known before, he wants to go from Spain to Washington state so he can have a last few days with his best friend Cam. But Cam and his mate are out on vacation and Leo finds Taruk at their house instead.

Taruk doesn’t exactly understand the recent trend in the elk herd he belongs to toward having arranged marriages, but he’s not overly worried about it, since he’s not high on the pecking order. After seeing how happy his best friend Jenner is with his mate, Cam, Taruk wonders if it’s not so bad. When Leo shows up while he’s house sitting, he responds to the fear and sadness emanating from the young cheetah. The two are drawn together only to be torn apart when Leo’s promised mate arrives and takes Leo away.

The two struggle with the feelings their brief encounter has awakened. Then when disaster strikes, only that new love is enough to hold them both together.

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their dog. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

Not my fave of the two. Just as the book started to take a really dark turn (which I wasn't feeling) it totally flipped back to ordinary--ness.. Give me angst and nasty..or keep it light and fluffy.

Summary:
Some cultures adhere to the tradition of arranged marriages, but usually the families try and ensure that the couple will be happy. Unfortunately, Leo's father was only focused on what he would gain both in power and financially from the union. Leo always knew that could be his fate, but seeing how happy his best friend Cam was with his mate gave him courage and hope until he met his mate, Antonio, who was everything he was afraid pf. Antonio used his strength like a whip to force Leo to comply with all of his rules or face the consequences. Taruk's happy-go-lucky world changed when Leo arrived looking emotionally and physically shattered. Leo's withdrawn and shadowed face was an abrupt change from his usual sunny disposition leaving Taruk with the desire to love and protect him against all odds. The two are drawn to each other even with Leo's mating looming over them leaving doubt that they could ever be together. The struggles and anguish Leo and Taruk endure put their love to the test as Leo's enforced mating may prove to be worse than he ever expected. This series gave allowed the reader see that marriages or matings are hard enough when love is involved, but forced matings could mean disaster if one individual cares only for power without any feelings for their partner.

This title was originally reviewed for Prism Book Alliance®

These two stories are about two cultures colliding. Not only are the mates different species (Elk, Fox, Bull, and Cheetah all play a part in the first two installments), the come from vastly different backgrounds and customs. They hold different values and respect different traditions.

3.5 Tough read, Antonio was way too evil for me to stomach.
