Awakened Angel is a novella in the Soul Savers series by Kristie Cook. It is an introduction into the new world of Soul Savers, after the old one was destroyed in the battle between good and evil. You definitely don't have to have read the other books in the series to understand this one.
In this story Alexis, the Matriarch of Earth's angels suffers from memory loss. Nobody knows what has caused it and despite trying everything they can think of, nothing is helping her to remember who she is. This couldn't have happened at a worse time because something or someone is poisoning their water supplies, supplies that are in desperate demand. A new enemy is brought to light as well, double trouble, all while Alexis is in no fit state to fight or to lead her people.
Her husband, Tristan is beside himself, he longs for the return of his wife's memory, not only because she is needed by her people, and the burgeoning new world, but he needs her too. He wants her to remember him, to remember her children. He wants and needs things back as they were before.
Will something be able to be done to help Alexis, if not, her people will suffer. They are losing faith in her, which she understands. She doesn't want to let them down and talks of stepping down as leader. It's impossible though and come hell or high water a cure must be found. The water supply must be reinstated before everybody dies of dehydration, and Alexis must continue monitoring the situation around the world, sending help when necessary as more and more survivors move above ground to try to make new lives for themselves.
Although as I said earlier, you can read this book as a stand alone one, I think you will get far more enjoyment from it if you read at least the first book in the series, if not all of them. It's been a long time since I read them, and I forgot just how good a writer Kristie Cook is. Even though Awakening Angel is a novella, it was an exciting read that made me want to read it in one go to find out what happens. There were a couple of very funny scenes, some worrying scenes, some sad scenes, and even a little romance thrown in for good measure. It certainly ticked all the boxes for me, so much so that I believe I will go back to the start of the series and re-read them all again.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
