This book definitely started off kind of slow for me. There were times when I wasn't sure I would return to the book at all. However, there was something that wouldn't allow me to just put it down and I'm glad I didn't. It did pick up and FAST. After getting to the second part of the book and started to watch how people came together I couldn't stop reading. My suggestion is remain patient. And pay attention to every detail. The things that happen in the beginning of the book may not make much sense as you're reading, but will certainly come together by mid book. I found myself spending a week to read part one, to having to finish part two in a day because I wanted to know what happened next. Waiting on book 2 because the ending left a huge hole. Anticipation...
I am a big fan of Denesha Diamond's and have read everything she has written. I can usually read one of her books in one sitting. Conspiracy started real slow for me. The first part of the book took me a long time to get through because I couldn't figure out what main character had to do with politics. Once I got through part 1 it picks up from there. I must say that this is completely different from what she usually writes.
Conspiracy took me on a journey. As each chapter unfolded, I was taken in the harsh reality of street-life and human experimentation. Gripping and filled with Political Intrigue. Be patient as the story builds and the author ties it all together leading to a thrilling read. It sort of ends abruptly, which I do not like. But that doesn't take away from the writing craft or suspense displayed in the novel. 3.5 stars
My first by this author. Abriana Parker ran from home, was abducted and held in a basement with other women, where they were stared and administered drugs. A DC policewoman operating off the grid rescued her and 2 others. Now she's trying to get her life back together but ends up with a madam who caters to DC's most powerful--and ends up on the run, charged with murdering her first john, an important politician. Can she trust an ex-con and his friends to save her? Had I known this was the start of a series...now I want to know what happens. Fast-paced; a sympathetic heroine described as "tough, gifted, and beautiful;" a busy story line: what's the deal with the drugs she was given? have they given her special powers? terrorist plot, and she's on the run from the police, some government agency, and a drug lord; urban environment and lots of corruption all around; compelling, suspenseful, edgy tone. Familiar Romantic Suspense fare with a few interesting twists.
This is totally different coming from De'neshia but I'm glad she is trying new things. To me it was a good read I truely enjoyed it. Getting to know Kadir and Abrianna(Bee). I dont how Bee is still standing after all she been through and it shows how politics play a big roll in a lot of things. I wonder if she will ever find out what happen to Moses and what Zeke did. Will Zeke stay in jail, what will happen when he find out what happened to Madame Nevaeh(Tanya Ellison),what will Bee do now that she know who Kitty is and Kadir suspicion about Bee. POLITICS!! DRUGS!! MONEY!! POWER!!
This is somewhat of a departure from De'nesha's other books. I'm a big fan of hers. It's a roller coaster ride into the underbelly of politics. Yet, still a good urban read. I'm interested in what direction the next book will go.
This was a huge change for this author, but I must say I was all in. At first I was confused but then things kept getting better and had so many twist stand turns. I enjoyed it and looking forward to the follow up.
If you look at my books read you will see that I have read several by this author. You might even say I am a fan. She can tell a story extremely well. This kind of story is different for the author even by her own admission. I think the ability in her pen is there. My problem was that when it started there was this air of mystery with who the heroine was. I do like mysteries, but I just didn't get captured before I started wondering. In the very beginning you realize the author is pushing the reader to accept social change in that the supporting characters were detailed as being "different". Then there was the first major event in the book that for me, was very odd. It's like the timing of it was off. I watched a movie about something similar and it was based on a true story. It had that same eery feeling - that I don't like yet, I was captured. Not here. The hero that was on trial was of Arabic decent and was basically a victim of cultural and social profiling and was fighting for other victims. His relatives were fed up with America and etc... While I am all for stories that give us various cultural and racial perspectives this seemed contrived. This was more of Diamond creating characters that possibly portrayed her own thought processes. I want to see real characters no matter what social or political or cultural background but every one of those types of characters are not always progressive in their thinking. I don't want to be forced to accept characters. I want to feel them. Maybe what I'm trying to say is I need the story to flow from a natural place. This one just didn't work for me and so I feel it necessary to say I didn't finish the book . Maybe it got better.
Let me start off by saying that this is the first book that I've read of De'Nesha Diamond's in years, and I normally look forward to her books, but whew! I didn't think I'd ever finish this one. It was too long and drawn out and there were way too many pieces to this incomplete puzzle. It didn't start getting good until I was maybe 70% into the book, and by then, I was focused on getting to the finished line so I could be done with it and move on to something else. There's a part two but I don't think I'll be reading it.
I was a little confused at first because the synopsis of the explained something a little different. By the time I got to the second part, the book started coming together. I hope there is a second book because the book was on then it left you hanging. There was no epilogue at the end so were they cleared of the craziness? Does she help? Does she get and happily ever after with Khalid?
Although there was some holes or loose ends, I still enjoyed this read and plan to read the next one in the series... which is clearing up the suspicions.
Disclaimer: I borrowed a copy from the library and giving my honest review
Honestly there was too much going on I couldn’t even figure out how the main character related to the plot at all. Didn’t even finish the book because I was 10 chapters in and still confused as to what the heck was going on
Abrianna Was Domed From The Beginning, Yea She May Have Mental Issues But She's Being Set Up, But She Done Added Another Criminal To Her Team Kadir Who Got Him Own Problems......CON'T To Book #2 COLLUSION!!!!!
This book was not what I quite expected... it started off really slow, too slow actually.. then idk.. maybe when I read book 2 I’ll get a better understanding
I did like that this book was completely different from what I've previously read from the author. The deals with the effects of experimental drugs on humans, politics, and perceived terrorism which is complete change of pace from the Diva series. However, the book was a little long winded to me. It took a while for the story to get going and at times I would forget how and why something was happening. Towards the end of the book, I felt like I finally caught to the story and then became intrigued. Kinda reminded me of an episode of "24" or something. Overall, I'm curious to see what happens next.
The storyline was kinda slow and a bit choppy in the beginning but Bree and Kadir worked!! The conspiracy that unfolds keeps you guessing. The ending is a bit of a shocker !
