The journey to the West was a conspiracy of heaven! After Sutra (Buddhist sacred texts) went missing for more than a decade, Heaven sent its army to search, in order not to let the Sutra once again fall into the hands of heaven, the journey to West begin again.
Continuing along my lifelong journey of trying to better explore and try any and every form of book or writing I can to both appreciate the similarities and the beautiful differences between the styles the context and usually even the points. I’ve been lead to my next stepping stone being manhua, and this remarkably in depth and detailed war saga based on old Buddhist stories has completely shattered and exceeded my initial expectations. I literally felt at times like I was walking along the feudal street at times as a third party witness to the beginnings of this great conflict, and I’m all in to keep reading on and seeing what Zheng Jian He has up their sleeves for the following volumes. 4.25/5
It's been a long time since I enjoyed anything like I enjoyed Feng Shen Ji!!! The plot was interesting, the characters good, the world enjoyable, and OMG the art... It's sooooooo beautiful. I kept going back to look at some of the panels again and again. I just loved everything about it! Can't wait to read the next volumes...
Picked up the Manhua (Chinese Comic) seeing its high ranking on a Manga (Japanese Comic) Site. Really surprised at the high quality of the material, I can't believe this work isn't more renowned. Although the first few chapters felt heavy with the many characters and fight sequence from the get-go, it did settle done to tell an awesome story. This work has a novel feel to it more than a comic.
The plot: It is inspired by Investiture of the Gods or The Creation of the Gods, a renowned 16th-century Chinese novel which combines elements of history, folklore, mythology, legends and fantasy. The Manhua takes the plot from the book and goes its own direction in creating a masterpiece. It’s an Epic storytelling about a world were Gods visit the Human world and rule it with a tight fist. It’s about how the humans finally overthrow the gods in wanting to live in freedom. Most of the struggle is from point of view of one man, our protagonist. The story is tight-knit from start to the end, there seemed some loose ends at times but as the story progressed all of them very tied up with further revelations. There is a lot of world making and it’s done beautifully. The storytelling is very entertaining with the many twists, discovery of the world and the character growths, every few chapters have something new to offer (5/5)
The Characters: This work has lots and lots of characters and the many of them undergo drastic development as the story moves forward, the best part is they are believable. (5/5)
The Art: It’s really good work, especially considering all of it is in color, also they got a chance to explore a lot themes with the world making involving fantasy and history. The best part was the fight scenes are clean and clear, not muddle as I have seen in other shounen manga works. (5/5)
The Action/Fight Scenes: As I said above the art is great, as for the fight itself, a big positive was they were not dragged out for fan service or lack of material as is the normal trend in the genre, none of the one on one fight are dragged over two chapters, not even the boss fights. Although did feel there were too many of these fights in each of the battles. The comic could have done with a lower number of fights for better pacing. (4/5)
The only complain: It’s a tad too long, maybe I should not have tried binge-reading all three volumes in one go. On that note, the review is for all three volumes.
I don't know why whenever I read comments on this part of the story, they say this volume's the most boring and least likeable?? Lol I think this one is the best out of the three seasons and probably my favorite even tho Ah Gou was a bit annoying at first. I like how they showed how Ah Gou navigates his life in the mines and and see how his bratty ass struggles at the beginning lol. I like how he changed and I like Bai Cai as well but I do agree with some saying there relationship aren't developed enough same with her character which is just sad.
◾ Fav Scene/Moment ◾ * Ah Gou/Wu Geng taking care of Bai Cai * The Monster in the Mine * Anytime Ah Gou with Ne Zha 👹
I thought Ne Zha's a girl at the beginning because of his hairstyle lol 🗿.
Supreme story, realistic drawing that made me think that the pictures are gonna comes out of the screen, thrilling and exciting battles, it's just that I can't wait until I read the 2nd and 3rd volumes!
