Masters of the Shadowlands #1-4

Masters of the Shadowlands Box Set: Books 1-4

Rate this book
In the exclusive Shadowlands BDSM club, the title “Master” is given to only the most powerful, experienced, and skilled Dominants.

Enjoy the first four books in the series: Club Shadowlands, Dark Citadel, Breaking Free, and Lean on Me in this special offering, available as a box set for the very first time!

This is a fabulous series. It’s erotic, it’s romantic, has wonderfully suspenseful plots, and amazing characters (including so many yummy sexy alpha men—I did say I LURVE them, didn’t I?). But even more than that, I think it’s a wonderful introduction to the BDSM genre of Erotica, or even the lifestyle.
– The Romance Reviews

Masters of the Shadowlands 1: Club Shadowlands
Her car disabled during a tropical storm, Jessica Randall discovers the isolated house where she’s sheltering is a private bondage club. At first shocked, she soon becomes aroused watching the interactions between the Doms and their subs. But she’s a professional woman—an accountant—and surely isn’t a submissive …is she?

Master Z hasn’t been so attracted to a woman in years. But the little sub who has wandered into his club intrigues him. She’s intelligent. Reserved. Conservative. After he discovers her interest in BDSM, he can’t resist tying her up and unleashing the passion she hides within.

Masters of the Shadowlands 2: Dark Citadel
After Kari breaks up with her date during Beginner’s Night at Club Shadowlands, she’s given the option to continue with an experienced dominant. Despite her steamy fantasies about BDSM, the inexperienced schoolteacher plans to simply observe. Yet under the unyielding hands of Master Dan, she not only participates, but gives him everything he asks for. There is nothing she can hide from him. Not her passion.or her love.

Still mourning the death of his wife, Master Dan avoids getting involved with women and he never takes a sub twice. But this modest little beginner is such a sweetie, one night is far from enough. As he plumbs her responses, taking her ever deeper into the world of BDSM, the gentle submissive begins to show him how barren his life has become and what a dark citadel he’s made of his heart.

During their three nights together, the teacher will learn to submit…can she teach the master to love?

Masters of the Shadowlands 3: Breaking Free
A sadistic husband left Beth scarred, inside and out. Only at the Shadowlands BDSM club does she feel like a woman. But her fears limit her to Doms who won’t overwhelm her—the very ones who cannot arouse her. The Master of the Shadowlands gives her an ultimatum: accept the Dom he assigns or lose her membership. The last thing Beth wants is a ruthless, powerful Dom, but that’s just what she gets.

Asked to take on a problem sub, Nolan sees the issue immediately—although truly submissive, the little redhead is too scared to relinquish control and her Doms have let her get away with it. That will change right now.

As Master Nolan takes Beth under command, compelling her submission, she’s terrified, but the experienced Dom brings her pleasure, not pain. His only demand is that she never lie to him. Under his capable hands, her body comes alive, and she begins to heal. As he pushes her limits, she learns to trust…and then to love. And she realizes he is beginning to care for her in return.
But now her cruel husband has found her, and Master Nolan discovers she’s been lying and lying and lying.

A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she’s renowned for writing heart-wrenching romances with laugh-out-loud dialogue, alpha males, and absolutely sizzling sex.

I met my dearheart when vacationing in the Caribbean. Now I won’t say it was love at first sight. Actually since he stood over me, enjoying the view down my swimsuit top, I might have been a tad peeved—as well as attracted. But although we were together less than two days and lived on opposite sides of the country, love can’t be corralled by time or space.

We’ve now been married for many, many years. (And he still looks down my swimsuit tops.)

Nowadays, I live in the west with this obnoxious, beloved husband and a seventy-pound lap-puppy. I’m a gardener, and I love nurturing small plants until they’re big and healthy and productive…and ripping defenseless weeds out by the roots when I’m angry. I enjoy thunderstorms, collecting eggs from the chickens, and visiting the local brewery for the darkest, maltiest beer on tap. My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch next to the master of my heart, watching the fire, reading, and…well…if you’re reading my books, you obviously know what else happens in front of fires.

Loved it.
Well written. Great flow. Beautiful MC's that are intriguing and keep you interested in the story.
I can't believe it has taken me this long to 'Rediscover' this author.

BDSM the way it should be represented.
Loved the idea of how Jessica 'came upon' the club and meets Master Z.
A fun and delightful BDSM romance. I highly recommend this one to readers of erotica.

Master Z has an uncanny ability that I won't disclose in my review. It adds to the depth & complexity of the world build & characters of the story.
Jessica is a person many will connect easily on various levels. From the way she sees herself to her questioning of her sexuality.

If you love adult romance with BDSM and characters you can easily connect to, you will love this book. I now have the next 3 books in this series and am looking forward to exploring each & every one of them.
Each book IS stand alone with an HEA.
I am so doing the happy dance----> 🎶🎹🎷🎸💃🕺🎺

📚Dark Citadel
4 Solid Stars

While I liked 'Master of The Shadowlands' better, I still really liked this one too.
This one seems centered on 'Self-Discovery' and 'Courage'. At least for Kari.
I liked Kari more than Dan.
Both are great characters. I just think Kari was the more courageous and honest of the two.
Dan definitely had a lot of baggage he needed to let go of. He seems determined to ignore the truth and punish himself.

There is some great humorous sayings that make you grin & giggle.
There are some really intense moments. Some of these are heartbreaking and some are erotic.

Speaking of erotic........
You will feel the tingle from the top of your head down to your toes. The adult romance is ⚡ electric!
A fun and fast paced adult romance that will leave you craving 'MORE'! 🙋‍♀️

📚Breaking Free
4.5 stars

This one has some great and very well written action/suspense and fantastic adult steamy romance.
Both MC's, Beth and Nolan are truly awesome characters. I couldn't get enough of them.
From the setting of Florida, to the BDSM world build and the two amazing main characters, you will be entranced.

Beth has some very dangerous secrets. You will find yourself rooting for her, sometimes wanting to hug her and other times wanting to shake her. But no matter what, you will love her.
Nolan is more than up to the task to take up the challenge of Beth and dig out her deadly secrets. He is also intelligent and strong enough to protect her. His character is so well written you will wish for your own personal 'Nolan'.

My only 'gripe' is there was a small section that seemed to repetitive. It was in Beth's thought processes. But, it was enough to cost the story a 1/2 star and that rounds it down to 4 instead of 5 stars.

I am really hard pressed to say which I liked better, Master of the Shadowlands or Breaking Free, but I'm leaning towards Breaking Free.
It is that awesome! 💘💝💞💋

Well, I may change my favorite in this series so far.
I really loved this one.

Andrea and Cullen were fantastic characters. Their interactions with each other was off the charts fantastic. I easily felt the connection to both of them and absolutely adored Andrea. She is just so 'normally neurotic'. She sees herself as independent. But she is really obsessed. Her refusal to ask for help no matter what goes to the point of self harm.

Cullen is hot and sexy and completely smitten. But he sees how dangerous her refusal to ever show what she considers weakness can be.

All of this leads to a very hot and steamy romance. This one burned up the pages. I laughed out loud many times. Other times I swear my toes curled for the steamy adult scenes.

There isn't much of any suspense as far as crime. The action is mostly between Cullen and Andrea. But, honestly I did not miss it. Cullen and Andrea's story didn't need it. They created their own action suspense. And lord have mercy did they have Action! I don't think there was any room for anything else but them. They were just that fantastic of a couple!

Definitely recommend this to lovers of Erotic Romance!
I will most definitely be continuing with this series!

4 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this one.
I liked Jessica and connected with her well. I understood her confusion at times, embarrassment and jealously. I thought the scene with Cullen was well done, and how she was embarrassed facing him afterwards I totally understood. Master Z was also a likeable character, it probably helped that this being the first book Master Z wasn’t into anything too heavy.
It is a book so the relationship progression is on steroids but it was still enjoyable
Looking forward to the next one

Dark Citadel

3.75 ⭐️

I liked it.

I liked Kari and her endless honesty. She was a nice person but no doormat. There was a few times that her boundaries were pushed and I kept waiting for her to safe word, which I wouldn’t have blamed her for, and yet she looked into herself and continued. Her patience with Dan was remarkable.

While I understood why and I actually liked Dan, I felt his back and forth with Kari and her emotions wasn’t fair on her. She was new to the scene and he knew it, by becoming cold at the end of the night, it was cruel and he deserved her calling him out for it.

I would like to see how they progress as a couple

Breaking Free

4.25 ⭐️

This was very well done. When a sub has suffered abuse in a previous relationship or somewhere in their past, sometimes the BDSM would just appear more abuse heaped on. Not in this case. I felt so much for Beth. Beth’s ex was the horrific Dom you read about who uses the BDSM lifestyle to abuse and torture their partner. Unfortunately for her the only men she was attracted to (dominants) were men who scared her silly due to her husbands abuse. So to combat that she was picking Doms who could not control her to protect herself. In comes master Z to the rescue, seeing her pain and wanting to help he get Nolan to take her one and see what he could do.

I thought Nolan was lovely. He was a hard Dom and loved to play, but he was also conscientious and continually watched and read Beth during scenes. I loved that time was spent to get them up to speed, and there were still things the Beth just couldn’t do. She used her safe words and he stopped and discussed where needed. He made a mistake near the end that proved costly but that was his demons he was fighting.

Because time was spent getting them together and helping Beth, these two felt more of a couple and more together than the previous books.

Lean on me

3.75 ⭐️

This one is not my favourite which is disappointing as Cullen was one of my favourite Dom’s, but in this one I struggled to connect with his character for a lot of the book. He just didn’t seem like the fun loving Dom we have seen in other books.

I didn’t connect well with Andrea either as her take care of myself attitude didn’t work for me at the start, so the first part of the book was a struggle, then part way in something connected (and I’m not sure what) and I enjoyed it, I flew through the middle of this book, and then again lost some interest at the end, about the part where she didn’t call. I agreed with him but didn’t really like his reaction either. I finished it because I was so close to the end.

I was disappointed with Dan and his reaction to scenes in this one. He is a cop as well as a Dom and meant to look at things from all sides, he shouldn’t have been taken in by manipulative subs.

Yes I want to read Marcus’s book, but I think I’ll have a rest first.

I found that the 1st book in this series was free and then I thought well, to be honest each book of her series here is $5.99 not sure why the are so steep? If they were a mystery series, I would think nothing of it ...but when it is not an author I am most familiar with or know of ... I am must more hesitate to jump on it and shell out that kind of money. I know I am not the only one. I have never heard of Cherise ... until like a few weeks ago. So I thought why not get 4 books in 1 set. I hope in the future she will think about doing that again ... have a group or set made ... I mean us readers are not millionaires ... we can not shell out the doe that often, right?! Maybe if you have been around her style and know her books ... but I am such a newbie. That is my reason for not wanting to buy more of her books at this time ... 5.99 for each book is a lot of money to shell out if you are not sure they were will not be the same as what you just read. What I appreciate about these books or set, or just Cherise's writing in general ... it is not cheesy ... meaning sometimes when I read about the same subject ... other authors kind play it the subject or make light of it or whatever, but it comes off kind of cheesy. I think this is not the normal kind of topic or read ... I appreciate how Cherise does go about describing it and weaving the stories. I immediately found Cullen, aren't most reads about an alpha, hottie, mchot-ness kind of bartender that sort of way, seeming most interesting? ... there is not a character that doesn't make you laugh, smile or more curious where their story will head. & yes, there is even a Beth in this 4 books. NO, I am not even close to her style or ways. LOL! but it was and always is fun to see when an author does use the name Beth (Elizabeth). I know nothing of the lifestyle but I appreciate how Cherise tells it ...maybe, more common to chat about. or could chat about? I will look more into Cherise ... in hoping that something happens and there are more sets that are in fact more reasonable priced? ( ;

It was an okay box set but I'll be totally honest I've read a lot better written BDSM stories this box set just didn't grab me I found both male and female character's weak with not enough depth and the storylines felt wishy-washy like there wasn't enough to them, sorry I was really hoping to enjoy it as this author was recommended to me but this box set of stories just didn't do it for me.

Book one
I really liked this 1st book introduction to shadowlands. It was very hot and sexy. Even with the main Dom was only interested in small parts of BDSM it was great reading how he showed that part of his world to a newbie. I would have liked more information about Master Z life outside the club but other that I really enjoy the book and interactions between characters.
Book two
This 2nd shadowlands was great. Had all the hotter than hell sex. Sweaty bondage and drool worthy men. I got more background in this book then the 1st which I really liked. I loved the garden bit with Nolan. Not sure why, but it really made me laugh. Only problem I'v got now is I can't stop till all the Dom's have their HEA.
Book three
Oh god. My heart broken reading the abuse Beth had gone through. I loved how Nolan worked slowly to gain her trust and bring her out of the shell her husband had beat her into. I loved how some of the characters came together to support Beth and at the end rescue her. Really enjoyed this book. My favourite moment is Cullen, I really want him to meat his perfect sub.
Book four
I would have got this read faster but life got in way. Lol. I loved this book. I loved how Andrea was strong and independent even to a fault. I loved how patient and kind Cullen was and layback for a Dom. Great book. Can't wait to start Marcus's story. God I love cowboys.

Intriguing

This box set contains the first 3 books in the Shadowlands series.

I absolutely loved all 3 but the first story was my favourite, because I love how it introduces you to Shadowlands and the characters exploded in future stories.

Book 3 was most confronting as alongside the BDSM and romance, it explored the dark side of the world.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT OFFENDED BY GRAPHIC LANGUAGE, SEXUAL CONTENT AND DESCRIPTIONS OF ABUSE!

Shadowlands box set 1-4

Having to review four books in one review - phew.
I happen to love her writing style and Club Shadowlands is amazing to read about. Each different character and how the relationships form and change, is like I’m there in third person. Thank you for these treasures

Warning: Side effects may include sudden overuse of the word “Master,” snappy comebacks, and a crippling desire to join a secret club. Masters of the Shadowlands molds your emotional rollercoaster into a sexy leather harness, and never lets up.

Book 1-4 introduce us to everything from stormy hook-ups in Club Shadowlands to undercover FBI drama in Lean on Me.
But beware: sometimes all those hulking, perfect alphas start feeling like they were cut with the same mold. Still, when a Master sneaks in a line like “I love you, sugar,” it’s hard not to melt.

Diverse Dom brigade, though occasionally “big, in both senses” starts to blur into too similar.

Strong bonds, these Doms really protect their Shadow kittens (“father‑figure protector” vibes earn endless praise).

Thoroughly kinky, bondage, impact play, leather, and yes, figging… Cherise handles it with flair.

Every book gives you a hit of heat and heart. You laugh (thanks to bratty subs who challenge their Masters).

Sure, the formula’s a bit repetitive, brat meets Dom, Dom secretly swoons, submission saves the day, but the emotional payoff is why this series feels like a warm blanket even when it’s leather and chains.

If you crave kinky camaraderie, heartfelt power exchanges, and characters who feel like family, Masters of the Shadowlands is your late-night obsession.

I. Need. More.

Perfect for binge-reading, this box set combines the first 4 books in the Masters of the Shadowlands series, providing an introduction to the setting, the underlying BDSM principle of safe, sane and consensual, various kinks and of course, a good number of the Masters, Mistresses and subs of the club. The first two feature similar insta-love romances between a true master and a newbie, while the other two could be termet adversary-to-lovers. There is pleeenty of heat and very detailed descriptions of the sexy scenes as well as the more disturbing ones in Beth's story, so maybe not for the faint of heart. The POV jumps not only from one main character to the other, but to side characters as well. I enjoyed it years ago as on intro to the BDSM romance genre and again when re-reading now!

10/10 would recommend

All the Masters of the Shadowlands books are great. I can’t put them down! The only negative is I go through them way too fast! One book lasts me 48hrs tops. Very spicy straight away within the first few pages but also with the perfect amount of story between the spice. Great characters with many layers like an onion. Not a single character is flat or boring. I can’t wait to hear personal stories of the background characters like the bartender… there’s definitely going to be a book about him 🥵

Great book and a great series. Book one was okay but IMO I think all the other books in the series are so much better. I really enjoyed the series The series is about a BDSM sex club called Shadowlands and the Masters of the Shadowlands. The Masters are close friends and mostly spend time together at the club they do spend special times outside the club. It helps that as the series goes along we meet new characters, the subs of the Masters and they become close as well.

Each book highlights one of the Masters of the Shadowlands and their story. It was much better than I had expected. I loved the characters. The subs are fun, sexy and smart. The story lines are good and I liked that it had a great plot along with some really sizzling hot sex scenes. A lot of times I find there's too much of one or the other but in this case I thought it was just right. I thought it was a great book that had me interested from start to finish and left me wanting more. Wonderful intriguing plot, great character building, great characters and very well written.
