The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly: New England Patriots: Heart-Pounding, Jaw-Dropping, and Gut-Wrenching Moments from New England Patriots History

Genuine fans take the best team moments with the less than great, and know that the games that are best forgotten make the good moments truly shine. This monumental book of the New England Patriots documents all the best moments and personalities in the history of the team, but also unmasks the regrettably awful and the unflinchingly ugly. In entertaining—and unsparing—fashion, this book sparkles with Patriots highlights and lowlights, from wonderful and wacky memories to the famous and infamous. Such moments include the impressive Super Bowl seasons but also the horrendous years in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Whether providing fond memories, goose bumps, or laughs, this portrait of the team is sure to appeal to the fan who has been through it all.

Solid book retelling the highs and lows of New England Patriots history. For a Pats buff like myself, there was little or no new info, but still a fun overview. Would make an excellent gift to a budding young Pats fan, just to see what it was like in the "bad old days".

In the non- fictional book The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by Sean Glennon, Glennon reflects on some of worst and greatest points in New England Patriot history. Some of the worst are the Lisa Olsen incident, the paralyzing of Darryl Stingley and the Spygate incident. While some of the greatest were Super Bowl XXXVI, the drafting of Tom Brady and Adam Vinatiaeri’s blizzard kick. I believe that the reason that Glennon wrote this book is because he is saying that a franchise that has been through so much agony and pain and often called a disgrace to the NFL, that on the verge of relocating they managed to rise up and capture 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

In this book I reacted very strongly to Tom Brady. The book explains that Tom Brady entered Michigan as a sophomore and was the 7th QB on the depth chart. His senior year he was fighting fot the starting QB position the whole year with Drew Henson (a sophomore) and beat Henson out to play in the orange bowl which he won. He then went on to be drafted 199th overall by the Patriots. 7 other QBs were taken ahead of him none of which are still playing. If that doesn’t show perseverance, hard work and dedication I don’t know what does. Those are 3 qualities I bet we wish we all had. I believe that Glennon intended to get this reaction out of his audience because he wanted to show us that it’s not always about qualities you can measure. It is about that inner drive that people have. When it came down to it Brady wasn’t the best looking guy on paper in that 1999 draft but he wanted it more than the 7 QBs drafted ahead of him.

The book The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was a very good book. It gave great insight on different moments in Patriots history. I suggest if you are not a patriots fan do not read it because it is a little biased. If you are a Patriots fan though and are looking for a quick easy read at some point this would be a great book. There are so many different events he talks about all of which are 3 to 6 pages long so that you don’t get bored with the same topic. He even goes in depth to talk about the different owners throughout Patriots history. All in all, if you are a Patriots fan and are looking for an easy read this book would be great for you.

This book is presented as a history of the team and I expected it to be an impartial telling. However, it is really a fan book with quite a bit of homerism. Don't get me wrong - I pretty much agree with basically all of said homeristic points of view - however, it comes across as a little juvenille.

I found out after picking up the book to read it that this is a whole series - you can find one of these about your favorite team - in a variety of sports. So it obviously is marketed to fans of their specific teams who wouldn't mind reading about opinions they share. But if you want to read about the history of the team, this probably isn't the best series to use.

I did think that in this Patriots one the writer did a good job on the chapters telling about the people within the game, rather than the chapters covering game details where he presented too much of a personal opinion. One final point is that the book is written so that you can pick it up and read any chapter in any order - but it does become a bit repetitive if you read it from cover to cover because there are a lot of topics that intersect.

Fun and easy read if you just want to have feelings about your team validated. Good representation of the players/coaches/owners. Bad source for an unbiased history of the team.

If you are a Patriots fan who's been watching for a long time, this is a book for you! It brought back memories and reminded me of things that I had forgotten. I enjoyed the extra insight to some of the backroom stuff, but it was a lot like going through an old high school yearbook...that kind of feeling where you are reading and say to yourself, "oh yeah, I remember that." If you are looking for a lot of history and detailed administrative information I'm sure you could find a better book, but for the fan who wants to relive the moments, this is awesome.

It was a nice bit of light summer reading and it's informative for someone who's still relatively new to watching football. I started watching the Patriots during the early part of Drew Bledsoe's run as head quarterback so I've been lucky to watch them on the rise. Reading about some of the low points in their past makes me appreciate the way the team is run now even more.

an interesting read. more like a highlight reel than a team history. repetitive in places but this may be reflective of the book's format. No, I'm not--my wife is. Go Niners!

This would be a good book for the kids to read to become acquainted with Patriots history, but for those of us steeped in team lore it doesn't add much insight.
