When attempting to learn a new type of craft, I sometimes start by looking at books written for children. The starter projects are often simpler and the step-by-step instructions usually feature more visuals that can be easier to follow than written instructions alone. However, I think this book will, for the most part, only appeal to its target audience of young children. The projects showcased feature almost as much gluing as sewing, and I have serious doubts about the long term durability of many of them. Not only that, but the projects at the very beginning of the book don't even seem to have much play value, although I don't personally know any young children who can verify this. Maybe every kid really does want a big fish made of stuffed netting hanging in their room. Whatever the case, I would advise any adults who want to learn basic sewing skills to skip this book. Leave this one for the kids. Did I like it? Not really, but then I'm not the target audience. Would I reread it? No. Would I recommend it? I don't think so.
