Miami Homicide #2

His One And Only Chance

Rate this book
Sydney Gates is a homicide detective in Miami Florida. When he is not solving murders with his team, he loves to go out either with the team or his best friend and partner Ryker. He meets a sexy man one night while out on surveillance at the club Shakers. They danced to a few songs when someone suddenly drug him off the dance floor. Sydney saw the man again at Garrick's house, that following weekend. They spend the afternoon chatting and enjoying each other's company. Sydney didn't know what to think of Jase. Somehow, after meeting Jase only twice, he felt a sense of peace when they were around each other. He didn't know what it would take to make Jase his, but he is willing to try anything to make that happen.

Jase Adams owns a clothing store in a strip mall down by the beach. He loves to go out drinking and dancing with his best friend Tripp whenever they get the chance. He meets Sydney one night at Shakers and then again at Tripp's boyfriend Garrick's house. Sydney is the type of man Jase had always dreamed of having. He doesn't know what to do when Sydney asks him out on numerous occasions. He declines every time from fear of the word “relationship”. Jase doesn't want to be in a relationship. He tried one time and paid dearly for it. His heart keeps telling him to go for it, but his fear over powers when he even thinks of that word.

Jase's past comes back to haunt him when the one person he never wanted to see again shows up in town asking about him. To top that off, Jase has been receiving packages at his store from an unknown person. Sydney and the rest of the homicide team want to know who this man is and why he's asking about Jase. Jase not only has to relive his past by telling the homicide team what happened and who this man is, but Sydney has to hear about his horrid past.

Jase and Sydney decide to try and give this thing between them a chance and see where it goes. Somewhere along the way his past comes back to bite him in the ass again. He is kidnapped along with some other people from the strip club The Black Box. Will Sydney find him in time before he dies at the hand of the same person that almost took his life before? Will Jase get his one and only chance to have his dream and be with the man that rocks his world. Jase's time is running out and so is the light in his eyes. He prays that Sydney saves him.

Once I got into this story, I liked it quite a lot. Felt that the dialogue was a bit erratic within the narration at the beginning, but it flowed as the story continued. This was a story line that was strong and graphic. At points some could call it gruesome and disturbing. The main characters are well developed and capture your heart. The relationship that Jase and Sydney find in each other brings home the title... Jase has a past that is something for him to work through. When he believes it is time for those who are close to him to know the truth everything begins to change. Sydney has been trying to get Jase to go out on a date with him for a long time, but there is something that keeps Jase from saying yes. When Jase realizes he needs to let go of his ghosts, Sydney is given the chance to come into his life. The attraction between them is magical and intense, Their One and Only Chance, But someone out there is trying to hurt Jase so the Mystery begins. When he finds out that his past has caught up with him. The man that put him through hell several years ago has come to town trying to contact him. Sydney, Jase's family, his friends, and police will do anything to keep Jase safe. But is it enough and How strong is the love that the two have that will get through what is to come. The suspense and drama increases as Jase is put through something that no one should ever have to. He is kidnapped by this very man. Be prepared for a nightmare.

This was basically the first book all over again with TSTL characters, unrealistic dialog, a pervy Nana, and a homicide team with no common sense.

And what the fuck is up with everybody and the cheek kisses? UGH! STOP!

I was excited to read this book as I had enjoyed the first one in this series. I was disappointed however because like the first book, the grammar appeared not to have been edited and the punctuation was almost non existent so much so that at times I didn't know who was speaking! It's a shame as it really did affect how I felt about the book. Suddenly after about 15% in speech marks suddenly appeared and it wasn't so confusing.

In respect of the story itself, I found it hard to get into maybe because it was similar to the story in book one about a alpha male homicide detective falling for a 'twink 'being targeted for being gay. I enjoyed the bit with the grandmother and the strong friendship bond they all had but I just couldn't get into it. Sadly I stopped at 60% as it wasn't doing anything for me.

Again another good book from this series. I really enjoyed it. There are a few editing problems like the first book, it you can see past it. I loved all of the characters so I assume they will all eventually get their own book. I love Insta-love, I'm all over that, so these two are pretty intense straight off, the sex is hot, but the issue I had with the book was the inconsistency with Jase continuing to be harassed and hurt yet he had no bodyguard like Tripp did in his book, even Jase had a guard for a time in the previous book, but in his own he was allowed to travel everywhere alone where people could still get to him, a real head stumper that one.. Overall I still really enjoyed it.

Oh my. What else do these men have to go through. First it was Tripp and now it's Jase.
At least there is 'Thor'/Sydney there to help Jase through the most horrid time of his life.
Can I just say editing needs to be looked at in further books spelling and grammar aren't the best.
And what is with kidnapping outside bathrooms you would have thought after it happening once the gang would have learnt their lesson.
I did enjoy this book. The mystery was good and built up to a good satisfying ending. There are some very intense scenes that are actually hard to read.
I hope we get Rykers book next.

This book had the same problems as the 1st book. It seriously needed an editor. I also found it repeating some of the same scenes from the first book. Some of the scenes and lines were almost if not identical. I also got tired of the alpha macho guys spitting out such over the top love confessions. They went from aloof straight to you are my love and soul, etc, etc. It got really old.

I was really disappointed with the poor editing of the first one but decided to try this one anyway. I didn't get very far into it before there were multiple errors. Typically I can ignore errors but these are just too much and too distracting.

Took me a bit to get into this story, but it was a good story. Glad the speech marks appeared. Loved seeing more Nana.
