Vivian Bingley has big plans for her semester abroad in Spain...

Along with her BFF, Maddie, Vivian hopes to indulge her inner Art History nerd by visiting the best museums in the world. She also wants to tackle more practical concerns—like a less than stellar GPA in her major, Economics—with the help of a Spanish tutor.

But falling for her studly Spanish tutor definitely isn't one of them.

Madrileño Rafa Montoya is the stuff study abroad dreams are made of: super studly and super smart. He also happens to be super into Vivian. With his wicked dancing skills and his passion for the arts, he tempts her to throw caution to the wind and live out her wildest dreams.

Only problem? Maddie wants Rafa, too, and Vivian promised herself she’d never settle for second best again…not after a hookup-gone-awry last semester left her heartbroken. Is it best for Vivian to protect her heart at all costs? Or is letting Rafa in worth the risk?

This book is a New Adult contemporary romance, suitable for mature audiences.

*EDITED 28/04/16 - GUYS! I just saw that you can get a FREE copy of this by signing up for Jessica's newsletter! I read this book back in January and STILL think about it all the time. Definitely recommend these ones. <3 No they won't be to everyone's liking and at times the characters are indeed flawed, but keep going. It's worth it! *heart eye emoji*

Someone hide my credit card because I've already started looking at pictures and flights to Spain. This is a problem.

I loved this book! The characters, the voice, the setting. It was all balanced in harmony and draped with rich imagery to the point that I could see what they were seeing, feel what they were feeling.

Studying abroad is challenging for Vivian Bingley. She's an Economics major for practical reasons but in reality, she's passionate about arts and being in Spain is just the perfect place to explore it. However, she's having a problem with her classes and her grades are not that good. As per advice, she needs a tutor. Things got more interesting because this hot Madrileño tutor, Rafa Montoya has hots for her and apparently, her best friend / roommate Maddie has a serious crush on him.

Our main character has an issue with relationships. She wants a long lasting relationship and not just a hookup. She assumes Rafa is into that kind of relationships but she can't help being attracted to him. I just wish she didn't constantly deny her feelings to him so that her best friend wouldn't be led on. If I were her, I'll stake my claim on Rafa. Seriously, Rafa is a gentleman. I love how he respects Vivian's space and patiently waits for her. GODDAMN IT. I WANT A RAFA MONTOYA. WHERE CAN I FIND HIM? HAHA!! I just adore this guy very much.

Overall, I really enjoy this book. I can't wait to read the next one!

Original review: The Daydreaming Bookworm

*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Vivian Bingley has no idea what in stores for her when she starts her semester abroad in Spain. She hopes to raise her GPA. She hopes to kill it in her Economic classes. She hopes to explore the beautiful art that Madrid has to offer. What does she get instead? A flunking exam grade, an oh-so GORGEOUS tutor, and a best friend who is also crushing on said tutor. Studying abroad just got a whole lot more interesting for Vivian.

Spanish Lessons in the first installment in Peterson’s New Adult series, Study Abroad. While I enjoyed this book for the most part, the ANGST in this book was killer. Vivian was trying her best to keep everyone happy, but her actions ended up doing more damage than good. I think that is why I was so annoyed with Vivian throughout this book. Her back and forth seriously made my head hurt.

Despite my issues with Vivian, I did like reading about her struggle to find her passion. She struggles to answer the age old question: what do you want to do with the rest of your life? and I LOVED that she did eventually find it. I think her new career choice is the perfect match for her.

Side note, the romance starts out a bit fluffy. IT IS NOT THOUGH! Rafa + that dialogue = be still MY BEATING HEART!

Vivian: I was pretty annoyed with Vivian throughout this whole book. Her reasoning for why she couldn’t be with Rafa just did not sit well with me because the whole conflict could’ve been avoided IF she had just admitted her feelings for Rafa in the first place! I get that she was trying not to hurt Maddie’s feelings, but I was still annoyed.

Rafa: I LOVE Rafa!! Oh my god, he was such a SWEETHEART! I have to give it up to the guy, he sure had some patience with Vivian. He was totally understanding and never pushed Vivian, but rather he let her work out her own issues and come to him when she was ready. He also has a way with words ;). With that being said, I need my OWN Rafa <3!

So like I said before, my only issue was with Vivian and with some of the decisions she made. Honestly though, HOW can one say no to Rafa?! *swoon*

Overall, I enjoyed the first installment in this Peterson’s first New Adult series. The ending was HILARIOUS and a great set-up for the next book in the series. I can’t wait to read Maddie’s story! I definitely recommended checking out this new series!

I received this E-ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was really excited to read this! But unfortunately when I started reading this I felt uncomfortable. The attraction between Vivian and Rafe while well done made me uncomfortable.

I still recommend this.

description

First of all I would like to say that some of the feelings at the beginning of the book felt familiar to me. I never did the Erasmus program during my undergrad years, but during my Masters I relocated to Barcelona to do the practical component of it, and stayed for roughly 6 months. I was never as lost as Vivian feels though, because even though I didn’t dominate the Spanish language, I always understood it – Portuguese people mostly understand spanish quite well. But still, it’s a daunting feeling, to not feel at home… I know, because I felt it again when I moved again to Barcelona a little over 3 years ago.

Also, I freaking love this cover!!!

Now, onto the book itself. I really liked the writing. It was fun and easy and Vivian was mostly a fun narrator. Obviously, because I do understand spanish SUPER well, I sometimes found it too much to have the translation after every spanish phrase uttered, but I do understand its presence. I did have a couple of moments where I totally went “OK, I’m pretty sure that’s not right”, like “Venga con dios” being translated as “Go with God”… nope, it’s “Vaya“, because “Venga” means “come” and not “go”. Or “Quiero ser contigo”… again nope… the right ways would be “quiero estar contigo”, I know that in english the verb TO BE is used for a lot of things, but for us the verb SER and ESTAR mean different things, though they both translate to TO BE.

The thing that, well, didn’t bothered me, but I just couldn’t quite see it, it was the descriptions of the spanish people and certain habits. Well, maybe I’m just living in the wrong part of Spain, but the way that the spanish people are described? Not exactly what I see everyday. Now, I can totally blame the city here, I’ve only been to Madrid once and back then I wasn’t actually looking (really looking), but here in Barcelona? Nope. I don’t see it.

Other thing that kind of bothered me was the coffee. Wow Cristina, nitpicking much? Well, I am! Because coffee is very important for my survival and the coffee here sucks. With that said, and especially in the center of Madrid, it is quite easy to find coffee chains like Starbucks that not only serve all kinds of coffee, but they all have to-go cups. I know, because in my first day in the city I located a bunch of them. Also, not that I get out much, but I usually see people drinking way more bear than red wine…

Ok, I’m done! Now onto the story :D. I liked the fact that it dealt with Vivian finding her true passion and what she wants to do with her life. I also understand her unwillingness to keep having flings and to find The One, though I thought that at 20, and with very little experience under her belt, it was a bit TOO important for her, if that makes any sense.

I liked how she slowly decided to make the choices that were best for her, and stop focusing on what she should be doing. Still, her road there was a bit unnerving at times. I was frustrated with this girl for most of the book!

Rafa, on the other hand, was a delight to read. I loved his broken english. And how friendly he was to everyone. And how patient he was with Vivian… though, let’s be honest, that had to be hard.

I could have done with the weird sort of love triangle. It was weird! It’s worth noting that Rafa is NEVER interested in Maddie though. I thought that both Viv and Mads were in the wrong, but honestly? Mostly Maddie! She got under my skin. True that Vivian should have been honest about her feelings for Rafa, but Maddie KNEW (and she admits that she knew) that her best friend had feelings for this guy, and still she made a move on him. Not right!

I was super happy about the last 20% of the book. I liked the resolution of the story a lot. That, Raffa, and Vivian’s sense of humour while narrating it, totally did the book for me. I’m excited about the next story of the series, which will be about Maddie, even though I had a lot of problems with her character during this book.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:
Vivian and the Spanish Kiss
!

It's like Anna and the French Kiss with less character development, takes place in Spain, and has more sex...

….because we can't have a 20-year-old virgin; now that would just be ridiculous.

Oh wow, I didn’t expect that.

I’m honestly not sure where to start. I would normally start by saying I’m not the biggest of romance fans, and therefore have very little to compare this to, yet this year has changed such a thing. I needed a romance novel for the genre reading challenge I’m participating in, and suddenly I’m reading lots of romance. Not enough to make romance my genre of choice… but enough for me to say I have well and truly jumped into the genre (even if I am missing most of the real big names). Anyway, you don’t care about my sudden foray into the genre – you care about this wonderful piece of work.

I’ll begin with a thank you to the author. I contacted her, and in exchange for an honest review I was sent a free copy of the book. I jumped straight in, quickly finding myself pulled into the story. So thank you for that – consider me a fan, interested in what comes next.

I’m getting ahead of myself, though.

From the get-go, you are pulled into the story. I found myself immersed in the world much sooner than I had expected to be. Quite often, I find, it takes me a while to be dragged into a romantic storyline. Perhaps this change is due to my sudden capacity to read more romance books… but I like to think it is because this story is so engaging. The characters lure us in, allowing us to feel connected to them.

In all honesty, I’m surprised by the realistic portrayal of twenty-year-old girls. There were the odd moments in which I thought the way they were speaking or acting was slightly off, but for ninety-nine percent of the book it was as though I was with one of my friends. Seriously, it was like reading the kinds of conversations I have with my friends. The characters were nailed. I cannot express my delight to see such a thing. They really were wonderfully realistic characters.

As my four star rating shows, however, it wasn’t a completely perfect book.

As I’ve stated many times in this review, romance is not my favourite genre. When it comes to romance, I prefer the slow burning kind. The kind that take time to grow, the kind where we watch feelings develop. For me, the whole instalove thing is… well, it is nothing more than a literary technique. Whilst it did come across as instalust (something I can deal with, as anyone can appreciate a bit of fantasying about a beautiful specimen of a human) at some points, it still slipped into instalove. Such a thing made it difficult for me to truly enjoy it. Yes, a lot happened. However, it happened too quickly. I like things to move slower.

Despite this, a lot does happen in the book. We watch our characters develop their relationship, moving from flirty first encounters to (unexpected) steamy moments. It was a highly enjoyable ride. It is certainly a book I enjoyed – a book to add to my list of romance novels worth starting the year with.

Moreover, there is such promise for the next book. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I need to know what comes next! Honestly, this is well worth the read and you should certainly jump into the series.

Once again, I would like to thank Jessica Peterson for allowing me to read this – and as a nudge-nudge wink-wink moment, I would like to say I’d be happy to read and review book two, should you be looking for reviews in the future.

This was a great little story. I loved the adorable interesting at first sight and then the slow build of the relationship. I loved the addition of the foreign country and the Spanish intermingled into the dialogue.

I thought Rafa was fun and sweet. I did find Vivian a little frustrating but I did understand her reluctance. I found Maddie to be a little frustrating too but I found their friction and misunderstandings pretty realistic.

all in all, I liked the story but I'll note - I don't like either covers of the book (the cartoon or the odd dancing one) and I wouldn't have picked this book up on my own because of that.

At first glance, the plot seems fairly straightforward and to some degree, perhaps it is. In fact, I’d even call the entire thing predictable. However, if there’s anything I’d learned from reading plenty of books, it’s that the journey is just as significant, if not more so, as the destination; oftentimes, how we get to the ending is what makes the actual ending all the more gratifying. And this holds true all throughout my reading experience with Spanish Lessons.

Wonderfully realistic characters and an excellent dosage of humor: These two things I mentioned are probably the book’s strongest points. All the characters were realistically crafted and whimsically entertaining. I particularly adored Katie and Laura! I wouldn’t mind reading more about them. Or if Peterson ever decides to give both girls their own respective books and love stories, I’d totally show up on Jessica’s doorstep and weep hysterically until she gives me a copy. (I may or may not be exaggerating.)

Well-played romance, chemistry development and tension: I generally liked how the romance went. In the book’s official blurb, I was worried that there might be another awful love triangle in the story. Thankfully, there was not. It was totally and completely Rafa and Vivian all the way! Right from the bat, the tension between the two of them was searing and palpable. As the story progressed, this same tension continued to build on itself and gradually evolved into undeniable chemistry that would put a lit Bunsen burner to shame.

The tantalizing Spanish culture: I loved how Peterson brilliantly infused the Spanish culture and language into her story. The setting played a huge role in this one! I was introduced to a number of dishes I have never really heard of. I was given a glimpse of another country’s nightlife. It was like I went on my own trip abroad when in reality I was just reading a well-written love story as I sprawled lazily on my bed. Peterson was successful in presenting a picturesque Madrid, demonstrating both the hardships and perks of traveling abroad and maintaining the vibrant Spanish atmosphere all throughout the novel. Seriously, while I was falling in love with Rafa, I was simultaneously falling in love with Madrid as well!

I think my main problem with Spanish Lessons is Maddie’s character. As Vivian’s best friend and as someone who plays a key role in the plot, it is disappointing that I failed to establish any sort of attachment to Maddie. I really could not care for her at all, despite everything she went through. Additionally, one of my reservations about Vivian and Rafa’s relationship is how quickly it developed. It did not seem like insta-love to me, to be honest. Still, I would have appreciated a slower pace and a whole lot more buildup.

Other than the two things I mentioned, Spanish Lessons is definitely a romance novel I would very much recommend.

When Vivian’s life isn’t going the way she planned, what with her grades dropping, a cheating ex and just feeling down she decides to shake things up a bit and go study in Spain for 6 months. Will she find the path she has been looking for? Get back on track and be happy after a rough few months? Will she maybe even find love? 6 months in beautiful Spain means anything could happen.

“I’ve been so close to romance, to that happily ever after, before. And then I had to let it—let him—go after one semester. It hurt like hell.”

This was a beautiful, refreshing romance, surrounded in the lovely Spanish culture to add a slightly different feel to other romances. With a very hot and very attentive Rafa, our lovely male lead, making us swoon with his dance moves and patience and our sometimes annoying but still beautiful heroine; this was a romance to sink our teeth into.

“A slow, tingling wave of awareness moves up my spine, trailing goose bumps in its wake. It’s strange, this feeling, and new. The physical sensation echoes in my head, causing my thoughts to scatter in a starry rush.”

What I loved in this book was Rafa. From the start he doesn’t play games with Vivian, and even when other interested parties come into the picture he makes it clear that Vivian is who he wants. He is so patient with her, which he definitely needed with Vivian sometimes, and sweet and attentive but also he was very sexy and charming!

“The feel of his hand on me—it’s like heaven on earth. It’s too much. It’s not enough. In the space of a single heartbeat, I know it will never be enough.”

Vivian was not a character I loved straight away but she charmingly flawed I guess. Sometimes she seemed too sad for what was happening in her life, it wasn’t that bad, but on the other side of that I could see how much she liked Rafa and how she wanted to try to pick herself up.

“It’s impossible to pull away, to not fall into his kiss, into the desire roaring inside me. Why does he have to make me feel so wonderful?”

It was nice to read a romance that wasn’t too dramatic and to not have to deal with the anger that comes with some story lines such as cheating which I think happens too often in romances nowadays. It still captured by attention though which I think is a sign of a great writer.

“This forever thing that I’ve dreamed about for so long—the romance I wanted but thought I couldn’t get—maybe it can actually happen with Rafa.”

There is some drama but mainly we have brilliantly developed characters, a beautiful and easy flow of words that made this a pleasure to read and just a stunning romance with some really hot scenes and chemistry that jumps off the pages!

I really enjoyed this book! After reading a very emotional novel earlier in the week, I needed something light and sexy, and this was perfect!

First I need to thank my friend Shannon for gifting me this because I was drifting after my last novel. I think that without Spanish Lessons I would've had a huge book hangover.

This story was completely adorable!!! It pulled me into the Spanish language and culture. I spent much time away from the story to look up paintings, artists, and writers and by doing so found myself completely immersed in Vivian's journey. I even looked up flights to go to Madrid, and this girl doesn't care for long flights. This book pulls at your senses. You can taste the sangria and tapas, smell the sweat and heat from the streets of Madrid. I LOVED it.

Spanish Lessons by Jessica Peterson was a super pleasant sweet surprise NA book! The story is, Viv a college student, is studying abroad in Madrid for a semester.

Let’s start there. I was in Madrid a few years ago and LOVED it. Immediately I was excited to read this book. I did not have nearly the rockin’ hot sexy times as our friend, Viv. I did, however, fall in love with the city, art museums, tapas, wine and people watching.

On to Viv.

She arrives scared and homesick in Madrid. Her host barely speaks English and has a psycho dog. She eventually settles in at her host’s apartment and then heads out to meet some fellow students for drinks, club hopping and late night fun.

And now on to Rafael. My new multi-lingual book boyfriend. He likes to be called Rafa.

Rafa is beautiful. He is charming. He is a god on the dance floor. He’s the cousin of one of her classmates and is immediately interested in Viv. As a reader, I know this. I’ve seen this before. Viv, however, is oblivious. She doesn't believe he’s into her. They chat all night, they dance, they joke, they drink, they stay out to 6am! He’s perfect. Really, we should all just move to Madrid to find our own Madrileño.

I turn to face Rafa, hooking my finger in the v of his shirt. It’s as satisfying as I imagined it would be.
Singing Lil’ Jon’s incredibly explicit lyrics, I pull Rafa toward me, my hips working double time.
His follow suit, and when we meet it’s like a (sexy) bomb goes off.
He smiles, a devastating flash of lips and teeth and eyes. I unravel in his arms, allowing sensation to take over.
He’s smiling and I’m smiling and as we move faster and harder, it feels like we’re the only people in the room.
We dance like this to the next song, and the next. They keep getting better. We keep getting better.
His hand brushes my breast as he sets his drink aside. “Sorry!” he shouts.
I grin. “No you’re not.”

Viv has absolutely THE most amazing night.

They exchange numbers and Viv waits for his text or call. It. Never. Happens. Meanwhile, Viv’s roommate and BFF from college has arrived and she has her own family drama to deal with while in Spain. Viv starts class and is overwhelmed. She really doesn’t know Spanish well and her major, economics, isn’t her favorite thing. The struggle is real for poor Viv. The director of the study abroad program calls her into her office and presents her with a tutor.

The tutor is Rafa. #Awkward #YetStillHot

They’re clearly attracted to each other. And quickly realize she had accidentally given him the wrong number. But…Viv doesn’t want a relationship. She wants to do well in school, get in and out of Spain unscathed by sexy a Madrileño. This is where I am screaming to Viv…WTF?! Really, live it up girl. File those organized responsible tendencies somewhere else for a few months.

You get the picture. The have an insane chemistry, but she's holding out. And, the roommate with the family drama also likes Raphael. Soooo...there’s that.

There was so much I liked about this book. Seeing Spain again. Swoon worthy Rafa. And I enjoyed the fun snarky group of young women Viv hangs out with. I feel like I need new friends when I read books like this. Maybe not a whole new set, but an upgrade here and there.

I can’t wait for the second book in this new series. I’m officially a fan of Jessica Peterson. Read about why she chose Madrid and a special excerpt here.

SPANISH LESSONS has been impatiently perched at the top of my TBR-ASAP list since the moment I flew through its first two chapters on author Jessica Peterson’s website. Instantly enticing and brimming with the youthful promise of worldly adventure and amour, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next to Vivian and Rafa after their simmering late night meet cute in Madrid. Over the weekend I finally got the chance to indulge. And, sigh…So, so good! Beautifully written from cover to cover, this vibrant, thrilling, and blissfully sexy romance is the dreamiest New Adult escape that I’ve read in a long time! I couldn’t tear myself away—happily immersed and living ever so vicariously through Vivian’s darling perspective as she navigated her new, enviable Spanish surroundings and fell hard for, quite possibly, the world’s most perfect NA hero, Rafa.

Vivian is a delightfully appealing heroine, and so easily relatable. We’ve all been in her endearing shoes—young, overwhelmed, overheated, and feeling the euphoric rush of blossoming attraction leading to the ecstasy of that first real love. I enjoyed each wobbly step she took to discover herself and her own happiness. As her story progressed and her stumbles transitioned to confident strides, I cheered her on as she grew stronger, more self-assured, and brave enough to chase her destiny in life and love. She needs a few pep talks and pushes along the way, but, when she gets there and Rafa’s there waiting…it is glorious!

To say Rafa is the ideal hero is no understatement. He’s absolutely every single thing a girl could ever crave, deserve, and endlessly adore in a man. All day long and then all through the night, adore! ¡Dios mío! I loved that man. He’s got tall dark and handsome covered for his entire generation, but he’s so much more than his dance moves and killer smile. Rafa’s the kind of hero that every man should aspire to be—honest, kind, tender, affectionate, compassionate, mature, worldly, and—surprise—not a manwhore! He’s a gentleman. Hooray! *throws confetti* He refreshingly, needs no fixing nor redeeming before he can attempt to win Vivian’s heart. I couldn’t get enough of him. All of his joy, goodness, passion, and swoon-worthy sensuality… To quote Vivian, “I want. Badly, I want.”

I loved Madrid. I loved this couple. I loved this romance! And, for all of us who can’t wait for Vivian’s tear-soaked bestie Maddie to get her own much needed HEA, we only have to wait one month! *throws ticker tape parade* Maddie and Javier’s story, LESSONS IN GRAVITY, releases March 15, 2016!

Bottom line: Pour the sangria and prepare to swoon!

Prepared to be taken away by the beauty of Spain and by a very charming Madrileño!

This first novel to Jessica Peterson's Study Abroad series takes us to Madrid, Spain, where her protagonist, Vivian, is enrolled for a semester for an exchange program. After just getting out of a messy lead-you-on relationship, Vivian knows that falling in love in Spain is illogical since she'll be leaving for home in a few months. Studying in Spain is to be Vivian's big break, where she can manage to boost up her GPA by acing all her classes. That is, until she realizes she's flunking her Spanish econ classes, and finds herself requesting the school for a tutor, who just happens to be extremely good-looking...

Vivian begins the story off getting off a plane from America to Spain. Immediately, she's hit by the cultural difference and by the language barrier, and as someone who can't speak a word of Spanish, I really sympathized with her. The frustration of trying to speak the language, understand the culture, and learn the currency all while under pressure was very realistic. Throughout the book, not only is Vivian's relationship with Rafa is tested, but also with Maddie, her best friend. What I particularly liked was how much Vivian cared about Maddie, and how she generally tried to stay away from Rafa for her. Vivian's intentions were of genuine loyalty to her friend.

"Maybe it's not doing what I should do that requires courage.
Maybe it's doing what I want to do that is the courageous thing."

Rafa Montoya is about as smooth as gentleman as there is out there. He's the guy everyone dreams of: handsome, smart, extremely considerate and understanding, and he's someone who encourages people to chases their dreams. Rafa is literally too good to be true, and his patience for Vivian was off the charts amazing. And even when Vivian voiced her concerns, he took it with grace, and didn't do anything stupid like many guys in books do. If only more people like him existed...

The ending was cute and given Rafa's smarts, I don't doubt the possibility. It transitions the first novel into the second novel very nicely, which is about Maddie and her time studying abroad in Madrid. This book will have you blushing at the steamy moments, sighing at Rafa's amazing personality, biting your nails in anticipation of Vivian making her decisions, and overall wishing you were in Madrid with them! I'll definitely looking forward to reading the next novel!

Vivian is at a bit of a crossroads in her life. Her grades are dropping, she's still a bit heartbroken over her cheating ex, and she isn't sure what she wants to do with her life. She takes the opportunity to study in Spain for six months and finally finds her true path and her true love.

I adored the writing in this book, and it's clear that Jessica is a talented writer. I love the setting with all the Spanish culture and sayings. It was definitely refreshingly different in that regard.

And Rafa, wow, what a guy. I loved his Justin Timberlake moves. Lol. Rafa was super hot and super patient, because, honestly, Vivian was such hard work at times. But I'll come to her in a minute. I wasn't sure at first if I really understood the attraction between the pair of them, but as the story progressed, their chemistry burned holes in my Kindle. Love how the romance and sex scenes were written. And I liked how he never entertained any notion of Maddie. He was always obviously into Vivian.

The biggest issue I had with this book was Vivian. She really grated on my nerves, and it was only toward the end of the story that I actually started to warm to her. All the sobbing at the start really annoyed me. She is twenty, not twelve, and she made a decision to study abroad, and she was going with her BFF, so there was no need to cry into her pillow. Straight off the bat, she came across as weak. Then all the toing and froing with Rafa annoyed me too. So many issues could have been avoided if she had just been honest with herself and with him and Maddie. I also thought her stance on relationships was strange for someone so young. She was a total contradiction at times - too mature in that regard, and very immature in other situations.

Maddie was a bit of an oddball to me, and I'm not sure I bought into their so-called friendship. Then again, she was dealing with some troubling personal issues, and who knows how that would mess with your head.

It all turns out well in the end, and I do love a HEA.

Overall, this was a decent read, but I would have enjoyed it more if the MC had had more strength of character. The writing, the setting, and the sizzling hot señor were the standouts, for me.

Thanks to the author for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review.

First of all, this is the cutest book cover I've ever seen. I have to admit, I love covers like this. This is a New Adult novel and this is a genre that I usually don't venture into, but I'm really glad that I did.

It was a super cute story with a lot of heat, lots and lots of heat. It takes awhile to get there, but when they do, wowzas, Vivian and Rafa have chemistry.

The lead characters Vivian and Rafa meet early on but Vivian has issues that keep her from hooking up with the hot Spaniard, one of those reasons is her bff, Maddie, who also has a huge crush on him. There's a huge misunderstanding about their feelings for him and that keeps their relationship.

Viv has other issues too. She's had a bad almost relationship and now she wants something more permanent, which she doesn't think she could have with Rafa.

In some ways I could understand how she felt. A six month relationship would be hard to let go of and it would make me a bit hesitant to get involved with someone however hot they were, but this is a romance so love finds a way.

I totally loved this story and will be reading the next book ASAP

Attending school abroad sounds like quite an adventure and it was for Vivian. On her first night in Madrid, she met a sweet, charming, and romantic man who made her less homesick. He brought happiness into her life when she was feeling pretty sad and lost. Lost as in... What the heck am I doing with my life?

It was inevitable they would fall in love. Yes, the timing wasn't ideal. But cupid doesn't care about that. When his love arrow strikes, there's no fighting it. You can try but why. LIVE IN THE NOW.

That's exactly what Jessica had Vi and Rafa doing and the result was a relationship which didn't end with one semester. With true love, you find a way to stay together because when you love someone that intensely, you make it happen.

Jessica, thank you for writing a truly romantic love story and for also teaching me a bit of Spanish along the way. I am far from fluent but I can say and recognize more than a handful of words now.

So thanks, teach. You are one heckuva tutor. :)

Vivian comes to Spain to major the language and address her insecurities regarding her future, in which the subject 'Economics' plays a major part. Her grades are dropping, she's homesick and she hates Eco. One day and a chance encounter is all it takes to shape her destiny. Rafael is an all round amazing guy who pretty much falls for our Vivian on the very first day. After a lot of heavy duty flirting and funny banters with sexual undertones, the two part ways in the wee hours of the morning with a promise to keep in touch. But things do not guy as planned.

What I liked about the story- Rafa's persistence. He is sincere in his pursuits and refuses to give up on Vivian even when she tries to distance herself.

What I did not like- Vivian fickle mind. She's kind of one of those unresolved confused chicks who happen to take poor decisions every step of the way. Her issues with Maddie were of her own creation and were kind of superflous.

What I hate- Both the covers.

All in all, a 4 star read for me.

SEXY!!
summary: Vivian is studying abroad in Spain where she meets sexy and amazing Rafa. Vivian is not ready for a relationship because she has been hurt before and she I'd dealing with being in a foreign country and not knowing the language.

Characters: I LOVED RAFA!! WHAT A GUY MAN!! he is not only sexy as sin but he is sweet and kind and very cute!! Vivian was a different story. She is everything that a girl her age should be, she is just trying not to struggle with life so much. She made some really immature choices at times and she anoyed me sometimes too. But I could relate to her in a very big level. I ended up warming up to her character as the book progressed.
The chemestry between these two was of the charts!! So Hot!! The pages simmered everything they looked at each other! Yeah and the sex was one of the hottest things I have ever read!!!!!
totally need the next book!

I was a bit worried that I would be lost at first, because I am the ultimate white girl(hahaha) and cant read, speak, or understand Spanish at all. But it was an awesome book.

Vivian has been hurt so many times that she is not looking for a hookup when she goes to Spain to Study Abroad. Soon she meets the man of her dreams. She denies herself so much, but soon she realizes some things cant be denied.

I loved this book. It made me laugh it made me cry. It made me fall in love with Spain and makes me want to go visit it myself. I absolutely loved Vivian. She reminds me of myself in the ways she thinks. I definitely can relate to her in some ways.

This book definitely left me on a cliff hanger. I can't wait to see what happens in Maddie's story....Stormi

This was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The story is about a college student, Vivian aka Viv as she studies abroad in Madrid for a semester. I thought she was relatable. While in Madrid, she starts off feeling scared and homesick. I had that experience when I went to Paris, France. It was so different. Then I settled in, I began to see the beauty of the city and the culture, museums, etc just like Viv did in Madrid. Rafael aka Rafa is my new book boyfriend. He is charming and he knows how to move on the dance floor. This is a forbidden romance as Rafa is Viv's tutor for her Economics courses. They are attracted to each other. They have incredible chemistry. I was happy with the ending. I need to read book 2 to see what happens next. I can't wait to read. Overall, an incredible read.

When I was asked to read this book I was super excited about it because I am a spanish student myself and this sounded like the perfect contemporary romance. It was just that, sweet, steamy, and sexy. Rafa was the perfect foreign book boyfriend he only saw Vivian and only wanted her. Vivian at times was a bit needy but that was sort of a given moving to a new country and culture can do that to you.

The writing is great you can tell that Jessica Peterson has a knack for writing and story telling and I look forward to more of her stories. This one was light hearted and not overly full of drama but just enough to keep you intrigued. Thank you Jessica for a copy of this book for my honest review I totally enjoyed it!

This book was a pleasant surprise in many ways. I didn't have high expectations, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story focused on the process of falling in love, on friendship, the challenges of being in a different country, and emotions of all kind instead of just exploring the lust / attraction side of the coin. It's a really good NA romance with a few twists and wonderfully sensual, steamy scenes. The hero is to die for, much more than just a hunk. I'd have loved it if the heroine had been a bit stronger, but she came across as very credible. In fact, the whole story was much more plausible and authentic than I am used to it from similar topics and novels.

Did I sometimes get annoyed at Vivian’s perspective on why she can’t be with Rafa? Yes. HOWEVER, this book had me smiling cover to cover, and I genuinely enjoyed it.

Since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with Spain and everything Spanish-language-related.
When I was an university student, I spent a semester abroad. In Spain, no less.
After that I did an internship. In Madrid, no less.

So after feeling a strong wanderlust I figured it was a good time to read Spanish Lessons, a book that has been on my TBR list for a long time, so I could travel at least in my head.

I'm always a bit wary starting a book based in Spain or a book with a Hispanic character (same goes for football/soccer romance - the only sport I follow) because I'm more prone to perceiving and being bothered by inaccuracies. There were a few incorrect sentences in this one, but the cities and the culture was pretty spot-on; it's obvious the author has visited the places she describes in the book.

Rafa was hot and sweet at the same time, you could just imagine him whispering Spanish sweet nothings in your ear. *sigh* The reason I'm not rating this higher is because it was quite instalove-ish and we don't really get to see the relationship between Rafa and Vivian grow beyond the attraction and initial connection. Some important milestones, such as meeting Rafa's parents, happens off page. I'm also a bit annoyed by young heroines who "swear off good-looking men" because they have been hurt in the past (FFS, you're only 20 years old!). This also has a trope that gives me bad anxiety (), but I enjoyed this book nonetheless and read it in one sitting. I liked that there was no Big Misunderstanding, no slut-shaming and the heroine has a nice group of female friends. I would read more of this series!

Vivian is studying abroad in Spain with a group of friends from school. Struggling to keep up with her classes taught entirely in Spanish, Vivian requests a tutor. Rafa Montoya is an excellent tutor, he’s smart, patient, and incredibly charming and handsome. Vivian tries to hide her attraction for Rafa, especially when her best friend Maddie wants him too. But as Rafa encourages Vivian to pursue her dreams, can she push her feelings aside and protect her heart? Or is Rafa right?

I really liked this story! It’s fun and very relatable. I liked how realistic the girls were, in their drama, conversations, and being overwhelmed by living in a foreign country with another language as the main language. I’ve always taken Spanish classes, but it’s an entirely different experience when it’s with native speakers. Vivian’s experiences in Spain, going out to restaurants and night clubs with friends, taking classes, and really learning the culture make me extremely jealous. And it makes me wish I studied abroad during college. I love that it focuses on pursuing your passions and dreams rather than doing what you should do. This was my struggle in college.

There are a few typos which I never like seeing in books. And I’m not really a fan of the instantly in love romance. But her thoughts and feelings are still relatable. This is where half stars would be useful, because I really liked the book but can't give it 5 stars. I also just really enjoyed the book being set in Spain, it really didn’t help my wanderlust. It’s a fast and light read. There is some romance in the story, but not as much as some other romance books I’ve read. Definitely plan to continue the series!

Also, it's FREE on amazon!
