An old enemy returns...with a new victim in the conclusion of The Battling McGuire Boys by New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden
Private investigator Sullivan "Sully" McGuire has a reputation for danger. He's spent most of his life tracking the men who murdered his parents. The one woman who sees past Sully's predatorial pursuit is the wife he abandoned years ago. But Celia James has returned, this time with a target on her back.
In order to save Celia, Sully is forced to resurrect old demons. New dangers--and dormant desires--bring Sully and Celia close... and old enemies even closer.

Very good second chance story and conclusion to the series. Sully is the brother with the most dangerous reputation, brought on by the events of his past. From the search for those who murdered his parents to a CIA op that went horribly wrong to the apparent betrayal of his wife, Sully is haunted by things he sees as his failures. The last thing he expects is for Celia to turn up at his office with new information on his parents - and a request for help.
Sully may have broken her heart, but she has never given up on her love for him. Consumed by her own guilt over their shared past, Celia has used her time and her contacts to search out the truth about his parents' deaths. Unfortunately, that has put a target on her back as well as his.
The action, both physical and emotional, began early and never let up. Sully had finally realized the truth about their past, and now that she was there didn't want to let her go. But Celia had been hurt too badly and refused to open herself up to more of the same. I ached so much for both of them. Sully, because he still loved her and knew how badly he had screwed up. All he wants is the chance to make it up to her and show her how much he cares. Celia, because she still loves him, too, and is afraid of what it would do to her if he turned his back on her again. I enjoyed seeing Sully work to regain Celia's trust as they pursued the leads and tried to uncover the truth behind his parents' deaths. I loved Sully's big moment at the end.
The conclusion of the series also meant finally discovering who killed the McGuire parents. Throughout the series, we've seen how those deaths affected each of the siblings, and their determination to find the truth. I loved the scene involving Celia, the sheriff, and the safe house, and Sully's actions to keep her safe. The increasing intensity of the attacks that were meant to stop them showed how desperate the perps were to keep their secrets. The final confrontation was a real nail-biter. The bad guy wasn't a complete surprise by the end, as several clues had been given. But his motivations were a surprise along with an unexpected revelation.
I just literally jumped to the last installment of this series because I'm eager to find out who killed Mcguire's parents. And I was not dissapointed,it gave all the secrets behind and some shocking revelations. A great actions. A tied bond of Mcguire. I loved it.
A thrilling conclusion to the series, albeit rather similar to book 5 that seamlessly led straight into this. The central mystery of the McGuire parents' murder is finally solved, but not without twists and turns and some shocking revelations that hint at a larger conspiracy - and with it, a well of corruption - within the Alphabet agencies.
I did like Cynthia Eden's no-nonsense approach to Sully's and Celia's estrangement; there's no time wasted getting a divorced couple back together again, even though Celia seemed to forgive what Sullivan had done rather easily all those years ago. Sully's sudden need for his ex-wife however, is a hundred and eighty turnaround, considering he didn't seem to want to have anything to do with her years after he'd pushed her away. Skeptical as I am of the slippery slope of lust and carnal want (and the promises of forever) that both of them slide down, I'm already stubbornly hoping for Monroe Blake's story...because he deserves much more than what he got in here.
Have you ever not wanted a series to end? Have you wanted to finish the series to see what had happened all those years ago? This is the series and book..I hated for it to end..it has been such a great series..We finally got to hear Sully's story in this book. How he had went through hell just to get where he was at present day..what made him the way he was..The killer was from left field and you didn't know til right near the end who and why it all happened...An A plus book..Must must read!
There were a couple shockers in this one. The first came early on and had to due with Sully and Celia's relationship. Things made a little more sense when you knew that little fact. The other shocker came towards the end. We finally got the answer to who killed the parents. I hate how close of a tie the killer had, but do like that one bit of good came out of the whole ordeal.
Wow, I’ve really loved each book in this series. This is the final book and I was really shocked at who killed their parents. This is Sullivan’s (Sully) story and loved how much he loves Celia. So glad they finally have so much trust with each other and get their second chance. I loved their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.
All the feels and more! Loved this romantic suspense novel about a spy and her ex--- a Marine. Second chance trope is my favorite. It is the last in a six book series, but I have only read two, and enjoyed both.
FANTASTIC! I may be biased as I have continually loved this series, and while the ending might wrap up a little too quickly for my liking; it was still full of action and romance. Not to mention a twist ending! I will definitely be rereading this series.
This is the last book in this series, and all the questions are answered. It is full of mystery, suspense, lots of action, and some romance to add flavor. It is a very entertaining book. The whole series is really enjoyable.
I read this book out of sequence, and without reading the summary. It was a very juice read, and had a surprise relationship added that hit me by surprise.
3.5 stars and a difficult review to write. Cynthia Eden is in the top five of my auto buy list and my comfort read list. She writes gritty and hard, gentle and loving, snarky and cynical, the combinations are as diverse as the genre of those books. The one thing that I have always loved the most about CE is the reality of her characters, and by that I mean not just in getting them to pop off the page and into my head as 'real' people, but in the way they deal with their surroundings and emotions. It's always annoyed the crap out of me when you have a strong full of fire fem h and then find her acting like a complete imbecile the minute her libido is fire up. In the real world, both men and women need time to forget and forgive, and if someone hurts you badly, no matter how much you love that person (with the possible only exception to that being your child,) a normal non-saint person will want either retribution, or redemption. Trusting that person completely again would take a really really long time, or be impossible.
Which is what CE generally gave me, basically however asshole-ie the H was at the beginning, by the end of the story I felt he'd redeemed himself enough and I had the gooie warm happy happy feeling that this couple would weather the storms life will bring.
The thing about redemption stories is that not only do the characters in the book have to accept the redemption, but the reader must too.
Sullivan “Sully” McGuire is a private investigator that has a reputation for danger. He has spent most of his life tracking the men who murdered his parents. There has only been one woman that has seen past Sully’s predatory pursuit and that is the wife he abandoned years ago.
Celia James returns with a target on her back. If Sully is going to save Celia than he is going to have to resurrect old demons. Dormant desires and new dangers bring Sully and Celia close and their enemies even closer.
This is an amazing conclusion to a fantastic series though readers will be sad to have this series come to an end they won’t be disappointed in the way it wraps things up. The action is none stop and makes this a very fast read and a hard book to put down. Readers will want to see how the overall story arc ends. This series and specifically this book takes some great twists and turns and keeps the reader guessing until the very end. This is a must read for those that love romantic suspense.
WOW what a great ending to a wonderful series. Loved all the characters and their storys. The series had action, suspense, laughter and a lot of hot guys. Would very much recommended it. Won't get in much details because I would stop and its a most read. I've got a lot of authors which I loved but Cynthia Eden is high on that list. Thanks hope to read more.
"Eden ends her series on all the right notes with strong characterization and hot chemistry. The long-awaited whodunit takes an interesting turn with many action-filled scenes. Catching up with the rest of the McGuire clan is a bonus" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews)
Great action scenes. But I found it a bit weak romance wise. They got separated because of something the hero had done in the past and I thought the heroine forgave him a bit easily. Feeling sad that the series has come to an end but I am hoping that the author will write Monroe's book.
Allegiances is the sixth and final book in the romantic suspense series, The Battling McGuire Boys, written by author Cynthia Eden. I would recommend reading them in order.
