Dancer for the Goddess

Rate this book
Zaia is a gifted and willful girl who goes to the Temple of Kernoss to become a dancer in spite of her mother's strong opposition. There, her considerable skill is shaped and Zaia becomes the best Dancer in her city. When Zaia is of age she takes a five-year pledge to go on the road, dancing in towns and villages too small to have a Dance Temple of their own. In leaving, Zaia parts with everything she has ever known and embarks on a journey that will change her forever. Zaia lives in a society where women are respected and revered and the Goddess is worshipped. But a shadow hangs over that world. Patriarchal invasions from the north have already begun to make incursions and threaten everything that Zaia holds sacred. Author Diana Rivers is a Lambda Literary Awards finalist and a winner of the Golden Crown Literary Award for Speculative Fiction.

My favorite book I’ve read all year. Found a signed copy in downtown Santa Crazy (santa cruz). Completely drew me in and gave me all the in depth feelings books should give. The first few chapters really spoke to my inner child and as the story went on I felt like I was growing with the character, remembering my own timeline. Reflecting on truths and polarities in my life as well as the world around me. This book is great and it has those philosophical elements to it apart from just amazing diction that truly teleports you into the world of the story. So after reading a bit I look up and just ponder. It would leave me feeling so good, caught in the current of it. Diana Rivers is a great writer. I’m so excited to start the Hadra Series. It is at times very heart wrenching so there’s that warning but I love how she deals with these very real situations. Highly recommend 🤍 Very refreshing and healing, beautifully written.
