The Peering Eye really isn't as spooky and frightening as some other Shnizo Mitsuda's novels, at least I wasn't scared when I read this novel alone at night, like I did with Mr. Mitsuda's other novels.

Yet the 'murder mysteries' is well set (I won't go into the details due to spoilers), the story finds a balance between mystery and J-horror-style paranormal setting and the tone used by the novelist is good. I really like how the entire spooky business in the remote village and the mysteries surround the strange family eventually have a logical explanation at the very end. 3.75 stars.

阅读体验比预想中要好，前半部分的民俗怪谈风味很对，草蛇灰线埋下不少线索；后半段则是夹杂着怪谈的推理，读起来相对弱一些。

读完全本还是有不少疑问无法解开，但从序章得知三三的恐怖审美为“对故事不要求任何解释，灵异现象最好自始至终都是莫名其妙”也完全可以理解这种留白。

倒不如说，按照他秉持的观念（“其实冥冥之中存在这样的因果关系”之类的说明更是多余），本书已经相当照顾读者，尽力给出完满的逻辑了。如果不认同终章的推理我想对整个故事的理解也无伤大雅。

千萬要捱過序章——我讀完那篇長長的序章，禁不住罵了出口：「好悶！」。不過，一到兩篇正文，因著氣氛營造得非常好，我就被一直吸引讀到最後，而到終章才發現：序章竟然埋有伏線！終章的解說太精彩——雖然光從那幾個疑問，就推理出那麼多的細節來，並不是很有說服力——把兩段靈異的經歷，給予了邏輯性的解釋，三津田的功力實在了得。是個很不錯的閱讀經歷。
