A very different take on Vampires.
Bloodlust, war and sex all feature in this book. The main character is turned by base creatures (think almost zombies) and enters the paranormal world of Bath. We meet various different versions of Vampires and watch them battle.

This book had a cool premise and actually started off pretty well with an explanation as to how the main character became a vampire. To cut a long review short, this book explores the origins of vampires which turns out to be more biological than magical, despite magic being present.
The main character bounces from vampire friend to vampire friend before becoming embroiled in a war between vampires embracing their nature of drinking blood and having lots of sex and the vampires who detest it. Anthony, the main character (until about halfway through the book when lots of other POVs join in), joins the war after being kidnapped and tortured but is pardoned because he knows one of the vampires in charge, who then goes after his girlfriend.
The characters are quite detached from the emotion and drama that occur in the story and the story is told in a way as though the narrator is a bored bystander rather than someone who is actually living it. A lot of plot points don't make sense e.g. the mysterious Jamie suddenly knowing and befriending Anthony's ex despite knowing nothing about Anthony and fraternising with humans on a casual social level being well out of character for a new general/important guy in the Elites.
It's a bit confusing. Both the Elites and the resistance are super trusting of new recruits which means everyone is a double agent, and nobody knows where Anthony's loyalties lie so it's impossible to tell who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.
The beginning promised a lot, but unfortunately didn't deliver.

Children of Dionysus is a clever and fun read. I love the newbie vampire Anthony's plunge into the world of the undead, and his ensuing struggle to cope with all aspects of this new and wild existence, especially the blood and sex and general depravity that conflict with who he used to be. This is no soppy Twilight-style YA romance. There are subtle shades reminiscent of Interview With the Vampire in this story. For example, the telling of the tale directly out of the mouths of several characters, and that let me easily relate to all of them. It truly is a world of night, where the darkness is embedded in the soul, and yet at least one vampire is fighting the blood-drinking 'establishment' to retain his human values. I can't wait to read book two and see how the main protagonist fares as the series rolls on. Moon is a fine writer, a wordsmith with some cute turns of phrase. I don't think I've ever read a novel set in Bath. I could see it so well that I now want to visit this city that is awash in nosferatus! :) Thanks for a great read!

What a different take on vampires with a mix of crazy, science, and no boundaries. Written from different points of views, the story is ultimately about Anthony from when he is attacked and made a vampire. We follow him through his highs and lows and how he ends up in the middle of a war. Throw in good and bad vampires and it was surprisingly addicting. I enjoyed it. But thought they were all crazy in the end. I did like that even though it was a bit dark (think out of control crazy vampire with blood lust and sex), the author did not dwell on the bad parts but showed how it made Anthony and how it led to the war and science experiments going on. I chose to review the book because I liked it. Had to finish to see who Anthony ran into next and if he would redeem himself from the blood lust.

I generally love vampire novels, but I had a difficult time getting into this particular story. It jumps around a little abruptly and there are so many characters at the forefront that it feels a little bulky and overwhelming to keep track of everyone. Anthony reminds me a bit of Louis from Interview With the Vampire, with his internal struggle with what he has become, while initially being seduced into the vampire lifestyle. The book itself was well-written, just not my cup of tea. I received a free copy via Hidden Gems and am leaving my unbiased review of my own accord.

This is not your same old cookie cutter vampire story that has been told basically the same way over and over. This is a fantastic original tale that grabs your from the start and doesn't spit you out until well after you are done reading. Fast paced with descriptive world building and characters that I want to know more about. I look forward to more in the series and from this author

Dark vampire story.
I enjoyed this story. I like the plot and Anthony, who wants to survive his new world. There are violent scenes. Most vampires have little morals . Anthony longs for and wants to protect his ex- girlfriend Rachel. There are creatures more powerful and dangerous than vampires. There are unexpected turns in the plot.

This is an interesting take on vampires. You get to experience how becoming one impacts his life and leads him on a journey that changes everything for him. I think the author has a unique perspective on vampires and offered something new to the genre.

So many twists and turns I didn't know what was coming next. Lovable characters with plenty of flaws to make them realistic.

I struggled with this book
I can usually read books fairly quickly. This one was painful to read. I couldn't connect to any if the characters.

Very amateurish and full of spelling and grammar errors. Needs a good editor. Only read this as it was a complimentary copy available for free on Amazon.

It sounded brilliant by the write up, it has great stars but dear god was it horrible to read. Short sentences tagged onto one another, fast paced - yes but not in a good way, I felt like I was racing to catch up all the time and it was not an easy read at all.
Sorry.... but, no. Very disappointed.
