Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love again and again. Another Darcy is a collection of four previously published variations of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. This collection Unmasked - What if the Ball at Netherfield was a masquerade?Darcy At Last - What if Elizabeth has amnesia and cannot remember Darcy's disastrous proposal?Much Ado About Darcy - What if Darcy was unable to deliver his letter?Darcy's Winter Wedding - What if Darcy and Elizabeth met in London during a Frost Fair? Each story is a standalone story.
I've been half in love with Mr. Darcy since I was twelve, although I'll admit, the first time I read Pride and Prejudice, I was totally taken in by Wickham. I was stunned when Mr. Darcy proposed (I guess I was reading too quickly to catch all the hints), and even more stunned when Wickham turned out to be a jerk. But by the end of the book I was completely smitten by Darcy. I am still smitten.
The best part about writing Jane Austen Variations is that I can relive those moments of discovery and watch Elizabeth fall in love with Darcy one more time.
All my books and short stories are standalone stories, each with a slightly different Darcy and Elizabeth.
I really enjoyed this series of short stories by Jane Grix. Another Darcy contains several stories that were all well written and true to character. I especially loved Much Ado About Darcy which is a mix of P&P and Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare. Darcy and Elizabeth beautifully fit the rolls of Beatrix and Benedic.
Source: purchased as a 4-book bundle of previously published stories: ‘each story is standalone.’
Darcy Unmasked: 4-stars: ends at 45% on my reading device ‘What if the Ball at Netherfield was a masquerade?’ Lots can happen at a masque. Yeah, that was cute.
Darcy At Last: 4-stars: ends at 61%: [also read via KU] ‘What if Elizabeth has amnesia and cannot remember Darcy’s disastrous proposal?’ Well, if you have to forget something… it should be Darcy’s DHP [Disastrous Hunsford Proposal]. Yep, that’s a good place to start over.
Much Ado About Darcy:4-stars: ends at 78%: [also read via KU] ‘What if Darcy was unable to deliver his letter?’ I couldn’t help but like this, as it was a mash-up of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and my favorite movie the 1993 version of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing featuring Kenneth Branagh as Benedick and Emma Thompson as Beatrice.
Darcy’s Winter Wedding: 4-stars: ends at 99% What if Darcy and Elizabeth met in London during a Frost Fair? I had read this once before. Darcy, Bingley, and Georgiana run into Elizabeth and Jane at the Frost Fair on the frozen Thames. A near disaster and gossip forced things to move in a direction our dear couple was not prepared to take.
Darcy Unmasked The Netherfield ball is a masquerade affair as suggested by Caroline Bingley. Needing fresh air while dancing (as well as an escape from the hovering Mr. Collins), Elizabeth Bennet goes for a stroll in Netherfield's well-lit garden. A masked guest joins her as she should not be there unaccompanied. Also Lydia is discovered in a VERY compromising situation with Mr. Wickham.
Darcy at Last While at Rosings Park, following the disastrous proposal, Elizabeth falls down some outside stairs and hits her head on a rock. When she awakens, she has lost all memory of the past five months (including the disastrous proposal).
Much Ado About Darcy In this story, Elizabeth Bennet is an author. Darcy is somewhat cynical, assuming she writes the usual popular tripe of the day until he reads her books in an effort to understand her better.
Darcy's Winter Wedding When the Thames River freezes, everyone is excited to attend the Frost Fair. Darcy, Bingley, Elizabeth, Jane, and Georgiana attend together. Georgiana falls through the ice, and Elizabeth, attempting to rescue her, falls through as well. Darcy pulls Georgiana to safety, but Elizabeth's clothing impedes her rescue until she is almost frozen.
