This is a book I've had for a few years now and its such interesting one to come back to from time to time.
This style of book is mainly targeted to fans of film, which luckily im a big film fan. This book covers many of my all time favourite movies like The Lord Of The Rings, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, James Bond, The Adventures Of Robin Hood and many more.
A book about movies through the ages. Everything from movies such as Psycho and The Godfather to Star Wars and The Matrix. There are facts about the productions, but there could have been more information about how the movies were made and the purpose of them.
“Great Movies: 100 Years of Cinema” by Andrew Heritage Fantastic collection of film descriptions from a broad range of genre and nationality. Over 300 pages of photos and information. Wonderful resource. *****
This was an enjoyable book, though it's audience is a limited one in that the people who will best enjoy the book are the ones like myself that are movie fanatics.
Basically, the book is a compilation of the best movies that have even been made, (though it is admittedly dated as it was published in 2012). The movies span from silent movies all the way through today's computer generated movies. Each chapter is broken down into genres and discusses what Heritage Editorial deemed to be the top ten moves in each genre, with a number of "honorable mentions" of similar movies on each page. For instance, Chapter 4 is Musicals, and one of the top ten listed is "The Sound Of Music". The honorable mentions on the page, titled Musical Biopics, were: "Yankee Doodle Dandy", "The Glenn Miller Story", "Coal Miner's Daughter", "Ray", and "Walk The Line".
This is the type of book that seems designed to start arguments and discussions. Not everyone will agree with what the top 100 movies are, and that is one of the things that helps to make this book endearing. I would recommend it to anyone who loves movies, especially to those who are very avid movie buffs.
FINALLY done with this one. It was so incredibly slow at times and I'm just happy that it's over. I don't really know how I felt about this one because in the end I was just so tired of it. It was pretty interesting though, if you're a fan of movies(especially ones that were made before the 70's) of most genres you would probably like this.
