Any books that help us to see others' points of view help us to learn empathy and to care about justice, world peace, the brotherhood of man, etc. These ideals seem like clichés, but they don't have to be... they can be authentic goals... and it's never too young to start thinking about being an advocate.
And Granowsky worked hard to create this series, and I find them all a lot of fun, if hard to find. I recommend whichever you can get, especially if you are a parent or other educator, at any level.
That being said, this isn't the strongest in the series, imo. It changes the story more than it just shows the other side of the same story. Which is fine, but not what I signed up for.
Otoh, if used in 'history is written by the winners' lesson, or when illustrating the power of slander, it could be a very effective tool indeed.
All could also be used as a sort of mentor text, too. What folk tale would you adapt?
I really like the idea of this book. The overall story isn’t amazing but I like the idea of telling a story from a different point of view.
The illustrations by Éva Vágréti Cockrille are everything. 🫶 They are cute colorful detailed funny. Her art has a watercolor feel and I love love love her character design and clothing choices for them. The illustrations are a 20 on a scale of 1-5.
