I really loved the mindfulness exercises and beautiful patterns in this book. This book reminds we of why I love to crochet, and I feel content just reading the book and imagining the projects I could do. I’ve made the Wake Up Happy washcloths several times as gifts.
A beautiful book that sets out to help you set aside precious 'you' time and make something beautiful with yarn and a hook.
I didn't want to write this straight away as I wanted to do the book justice. It really is the best crochet book that I have ever read.
It's amazing how the craft of crochet can be used to relax you and make you feel good.
Betsan takes the relaxing nature of crochet to another level. Not only will you create beautiful projects quite a few of them can be used to help you relax.
Not only are you getting a book full of beautiful projects, there are exercises for you to try.
I love the fact that everything has been put together to make crocheting more than just making something. It's about the whole self.
The projects in the book are fantastic. I have already made the beautiful shawl (with slightly different colours from my stash) and have a number of the other projects on my list to make.
The exercises are easy to follow and take up a small amount of time. The thought put into this book makes you want to do as much as possible to help yourself. The projects make a fantastic addition to everything else in the book.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! This is one book that I will be using lots!

The best part of this book, and what makes it stand apart, are the feel good tips. The patterns are useful and beautiful, but the mindfulness sections are wonderful. You are encouraged to find calm and peace while you craft. I already find crocheting incredibly calming, so I appreciated the sections and blurbs helping me to take that even further and making it into a meditation.
Honestly, I read through this book solely for the crochet patterns. The therapeutic aspect of craft, crochet in particular here, is not lost on me but I don't need to be reminded to be mindful... Of the 20 projects in this book, nothing held my attention. Nice photography, though.
If you know how to crochet, you know how simple and relaxing it can be, and as the title indicates it can even be therapeutic. But what's a little therapy without a little frustration? As shown in the book, I used the circle/flower pattern and then increased the size at least 2 times. I've also used a variety of different yarn weights and colors to make a dozen circles in varying sizes. once I learned how to start these I can't stop and I'm still making more circles in my spare time; it's quite fun. I just need to read how to connect the circles, so I can finish it into a lap blanket.

i thought the concept was a great idea and i do try and use the techniques while i crochet. the patterns i did make from the book, i thought, were not that great. i made the calming mandala and thought it was wierd that the last stitch was different from the others in the round. i have not encountered that before. i also like stitch counts either at the end of each row or on the last row (or at least somewhere in the pattern). stitch counts help me determine if i am doing the pattern correctly! the rippled washcloth directions did not seem clear as to what to do when changing colors...was i supposed to finish off? i did! overall, i do like the book and will continue to try the other patterns.
I love the whole idea of this book! But then again, I am an old practioner of Occupational Therapy. I was instructed in O.T. at a time when craft was starting to leave the profession, and that fact has saddened me ever since. Thankfully, we have thoughtful, creative and mindful people who discover the calmness of crochet and crafting things and write wonderful books for us. One close friend reminded me that crocheting can also be frustrating! I love how Bestan has gone a step farther though and really honored the different emotions that can occur with crochet and help to see that it can be more than lovely art or a functional piece.
